Anticlockwise circuit up track from east then up felled hillside. Tump followed by Marilyn. Had to climb deer fence both ways. Still & almost cloudless.vegibagger24/02/2024
Driving south, parked in lay-by 171. Rough going up to deer fence then ATV track up by fence to gate at high point. Even rougher going across newly planted area to summit. Solo.Dangerous Dave31/10/2023
With Beinn a'Bheurlaich. As Willy Ross. Good parking at tunnel under A9 near Lairgandour. Followed big road up through quarry and onto hill track (shown on latest OS 25000) to end at 736 362. Then bog and tussock to Meall Mor. Back via ruined fence to Bheurlaich and down faint ATV track to 737 370. This would be a much easier way out, but track difficult to pick up from bottom.PeteN05/08/2023
Quick bag heading south, from A9 southbound layby 171, close to the end of the dualled section. Headed straight over the low fence into the woods, steeply up to a rough heathery area, then to the track next to the deer fence leading east uphill to the gate by the transmission mast. Then marginally better ground to the attractive summit area. Similar return route but followed the track slightly further west with a very short walk back along the A9.Owen B25/06/2023
Parked in layby just South of forestry track entrance at 723359. Took the southern fork in the track and followed until it ends at a gate in the deer fence. Rough, boggy and pathless up through native pine planting. Good views from summit.PeteF14/04/2023
The way I did it from layby 173 (Northbound), 172 Southbound is not the way to do it. Sounds like the track from Lairgandour is the way to go (saw the track which comes pretty high up to Beinn a Bheurlaich. I took the track up right for a short way, then followed some vehicle tracks up the side of the felled forest then back into the forest ride where the stream is, as the chopped forest becae rough. Over the new deer fence (pretty easy to climb) then straight up Beinn a Bheurlaich slopes (not too bad but newly planted saplings all the way up hill meantbits of paths then ditches to avoid. Onto the top then off towards Meall Mor (pretty rough under foot between the too, fortunately not too soggy as it has been dry). From summit of Meall Mor couldn't see any obvious tracks to aim for so headed back in a direct line to corner of fence, then walked along side of fence to cross back from inward direction, then largely back the way I came. 2.75 miles about 1hr 45 round trip. Not the way JulieB15/06/2022

From Lairgandour. Took track to edge of new plantation and headed straight up Beinn a'Bheurlaich, then across to main summit. Returned via the track.curlebd29/04/2022
From layby 170 on N bound carriageway. I also crossed fence 100m N of layby 171, up to mobile mast track, through gate just before mast. Returned direct to layby from gate. Glad I used the 100m N option for ascent, much easier.CJM31/01/2022
From Lairgandour. Fairly easy going on track but from end of track mainly knee-deep snow - should have brought the snowshoes!nicolajane05/01/2022
Nice return trip in windy conditions from the north. Wish I knew about the wide track on the way up... would have saved a lot of pain! Start up the road to Lairgandour, and follow the track round to the east of the house, which then continues past some quarry works, and onwards up the hill... almost to the bealach between Beinn a'Bhearlaich and Meall Mor!! Enjoy!clanbonham30/12/2021
From layby 171, taking a direst line (mistake!) to the mast track, over the stile and pleasantly enough to Meall Mor and, helped by a line of fence poles, on to Beinn a'Bheurlaich, returning across the western flank of MM and taking the mast track then following a stream back to the A9 500 yards N of the start point.Nick Down110/09/2021
Second visit after claiming the nearby Tump. Rough ground made worse by the new plantingColin Crawford08/06/2021
Parked in a layby on the dual carriageway to the west of the hill. Followed the forestry road and then a track to the south of the summit. Upon reaching the comms mast, there is a gate in the deer fence and a short trudge to the small cairn. The area has been planted with trees which made progress more difficult than it should have been. Fine views. It was then on to the neighbouring Tump.BigJ28/04/2021
As Simon, worth noting if you take the 2nd gap in the trees north of the layby, the rubbish underfoot is significantly easier. Sunny, cold wind.iangalbraith06/02/2020
Climbed from the parking area, just before the end of the dual carriageway on the A9. Up steep rough ground until the new deer fence, then along and up it till nearly at the phone mast where there is a gate, ideal if you have a dog. Then a simple but rough walk through newly planted and mounded ground to the topSimon Winton29/01/2020
a misty ascent tussocky ground no views. soloVerySlowPlodder06/11/2019
Similar route to Peterb, but no Tumping. Parked at the layby just S of Meall Mor forest entrance and walked up the forest road. This may be easier than the direct route now that parts of the forest have been felled to produce 2 barricades of brash and tree trunks parallel with the A9. As noted by tallblond, there is monkey business on this hill. The fence is complete and has 2 access gates, one at the end of the incompletely mapped forest track (N gate) and one by the mast. The N gate leads to a very sketchy ATV track leading between the new tree plantings to the bealach below the NW ridge of Meall Mor. Rough but it gets you there fairly easily. After that, rough going through a nasty mess of tree planting to the top. Back via the mast but this seemed a worse route with more need to dodge the plantings and the mast track is poor.Gill09/06/2019

If you still need to do this hill do it soon. They are working on a big fence which is half finished in order to protect the young plants they are going to be adding to the hill. The whole hillside has been mounted.tallblond03/06/2018
With Dave Roeder. Parked at layby 171. Directly up through trees and deep heather to mast then across ground recently torn up to plant trees all the way to summit. Tiresome but dry with good views. Start 17:00, end 18:10. Best route to mast is to walk W from layby for about 100m then strike up; after about 50m follow water-course left and uphill to path by fence which leads to mast.dbb22/04/2018
With Steve Smith from S bound layby 171 [NH 7330 3478] (N bound layby 170 is opposite). Steeply up though rocky/heathery pine strip to break out onto heather hillside. Beinn a' Bheurlaich first.jonglew17/02/2018
From the A9 lay by. Hard going but worth it!Play2End03/09/2017
From the lay-by at 349729 and then walked 100m North to the forestry access gate. Followed the forestry track then over rough terrain towards Beinn a Bheurlaich. Summited this and visited all three cairns and then took the Southeast slopes down and up again to Meall Mor. Deep snow through long heather. Decent views from the top and then a direct descent South to the A9 and a short walk back to the car.Peterb12/02/2017

From Layby 170 walked back towards Aviemore direction to enter wood beyond cutting. Various firebreaks to open hillside and summit. Note harvesting to the north and previously to the south, suspect the roadside won't be far away.N.Morters20/10/2016

From Layby 171. Write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/meall-mor-nh737356-492m.htmlGayle18/05/2016
Parked in layby 170 on the northbound A9. Crossed road and climbed up through rock strewn conifers, followed by a steep climb through the long heather, also with rocks underneath. Crossed the fence to the left of the mast where someone has wrapped plastic around the top strand. Easy through the heather and tussocks to the summit. Lovely views of Beauly Firth and Ben Wyvis. On way back, kept further east, to follow the edge of the trees down - much better - less rocky. If you're climbing from the laybys, walk east about 100m before starting to ascend.Clive G09/05/2015
Layby 170. Ride begins at burn just to N - really rough. Then pick up path to mast then up heather. White out on way down. Really dreadful hillThearlaichdubh07/05/2015
from north bound lay by 170 across road up through woods to the top great views.robertphillips13/03/2015
Parked in layby 170 on the northbound carriageway – Crossed carriageways & then steep climb up through the conifers, followed by a steep climb through the long heather – Went through a metal gate to the left of the mast & picked a way through the heather and tussocks of grass to the summit cairn. Some faint paths, but they soon disappear. (S)gerrybowes17/10/2014

If travelling northbound, layby 170 is opposite 171. Short but hard going on rough ground through long heather, especially at first where steep. There is a stile over the fence close to the aerial.Topographer5715/03/2014
Didn't fancy the steep wooded slopes directly south of summit up from A9 so played safe and parked at layby at north edge of forest and up via a Bheurlaich. Not a particularly memorable hill!AndrewFinnimore02/03/2014
Layby 171 on A9. Hard going up to mast but ok from there.bolton16/02/2014
By the time I arrived at summit it had clouded in no view :-(Nozzer06/02/2014

From A9 lay-by as Mark T, except parked opposite on North bound A9. Best line is to cut left into woods and at exit gain rough 4x4 track to aerial. Cut up half way and look for old track up hill thru otherwise deep heather, just to left of large single boulder. Great top at end of a warm sunny day.nordicstar11/08/2012
Short but rough heather ascent from Layby 171 on southbound A9 (grid ref. NH73283 34766) at end of family holiday in Inverness. Tricky barbed wire fence to cross on moor.Man of Kernow126/10/2011

With friends. From NH723359 walked up through the gap in the trees to the open ground above. Up through the heather to the summit of Beinn a' Bheurlaich. Continued to Meall Mòr. Descended WNW to join outward route.pwbellarby23/04/2006

Parked in lay by on A9. Over fence and a very dodgy 1/2m over a felled area - every step was treacherous. Over another fence to moor. Started up on wrong hill - B A'Bheurlaich - to get a clear view east to spot mistake. Down and up over final deep heather to top at 10.10.arranc28/07/2004
