From Carn Sgulain . Back west to boggy Bealach then contour SW down around head of valley then path up to A’Chailleach. Then west along ridge to Geal Charn before boggy descent back to Glen Banchor road end. Crossed footbridge. With Walkers.Denise 06/10/2023
Parked at the end of the public road in Glen Banchor. Carn Dearg, Carn Ban, Carn Ballach SW Top, Carn Ballach NE Top, Meall a'Bhothain, Carn Sgulain W Top, Carn Sgulain, A'Chailleach, Geal Charn. Very wet underfoot and gale force winds initially on Carn Dearg (hat blown over the cliffs) but easing later with cloud lifting. With Gillian and Denise.richard6906/10/2023

Starting from the Glen Banchor car par and going up an estate track by east side of Allt a Chaorainn. Made way N up towards the corrie and then climbed Am Bodach from the SE. Follow around through intermittent peat hags to Carn Sgulain. SW to to Carn Sgulain W Top and then prescribe an arc to avoid the steepest slopes of Allt Cuil an Caillich. Follow at times boggy track down SSW from A Chailleach. Here comes the mistake - forded Allt a Chaorainn (in spate!!). Wet feet... didn't study map at 1:25000 which indicates a footbridge further south. Not shown on 1:50000. Lessons learned. To be fair the bridge is unseen in woodland, but on the way up, there is a small cairn by the track.DampandDusty27/08/2023

Solo round of Càrn Dearg, Càrn Sgulain and A'Chailleach from parking spot in Glen Banchor. 7.15am start with headtorch. Circuit clockwise to get the long walk in out of the way, Quite a lot of bog encountered befoer the 250m pull up to the top of Càrn Dearg. Less bog up on the plateau, sometimes squelchy sections of peat, and sometimes frozen, with the occasional patch of icy snow to circumvent, so it was slow going at times. Dry weather, but bitterly cold wind up top. Long plod over the plateau before arriving at Carn Sgulain - there was a group of 3 ladies at the summit, so I said hello, but has no plans to stop at the top, so tapped the summit and headed over to A' Chailleach before the long descent. 7h 9min time.mproudfoot15/01/2022

Millennium Hogmanay jaunt with Shaky from the road end above Newtonmore. Path disappeared in snow above 600m & became a postholing exercise further up. By the time we reached A'Chailleach the mist had descended. Continuation to Carn Sgulain simplified a little by mist lifting a bit. Returned by same route using our bootprints. Back to the Clachaig to join the others for the celebrations.NotReallyABagger31/12/1999

With friend from Glen Banchor road end. Walked north on track. Near the end of the track went west across the burn and NW to a bothy, continuing to reach the summit of A’ Chailleach. We continued round to reach the summit of Can Sgùlain (2 cairns). Went west to Meall a’ Bhothain, Carn Ballach and Carn Ban. I continued alone to Snechdach Slinnean. Retraced my steps to Carn Ban and went SSE over the summits of Carn Dearg and its SE top. Descended ENE to join the track beside Allt Fiondrigh.pwbellarby15/05/1999

After climbing Carn Sgùlain. From the summit of Carn Sgùlain we followed the line of fence posts SW until they took a sharp right turn and then followed a tongue of land southwards before going ESE to reach the summit of A’ Chailleach. We descended roughly southwards and then SE. A huge amount of water was coming down the mountainside due to melting snow. The Allt a’ Chaorann was in flood, so we did not attempt to cross it and kept on the W side. Even a tributary was difficult to cross. Eventually we found a bridge and crossed it to the east bank of Allt a’ Chaorann, so rejoining the track used on the outward journey.pwbellarby14/03/1998

I reached Carn Sgùlain at quarter to four; this left me about an hour to get to A’Chailleach to stay on schedule. The descent into the intervening glen looked tiresome and the pull up the other side looked like hard work. However, once I was over the initial steep section it was a straightforward steady plod with very few pauses to A’Chailleach which I reached at half past four. I lingered at the huge cairn on top of A’Chailleach, finished my juice and took some more photographs. The descent south and then south east from A’Chailleach was a steep knee jerking business. As soon as I was off the top and out of what little wind there was I was plagued by flies, f***ing flies and more f***ing flies. I skirted the bothy and descended into the glen, crossed the Allt a’ Chaorainn and walked slowly down the track. I saw a rabbit afflicted with myximatosis as I passed through a gate and saw the scars of new tracks again.langskill07/08/1995

Alone. From the road end in Glen Banchor. Walked on the track leading north. It continues, though not shown on my map, to the col between Geal Charn and A’ Chailleach, passing just to the east of a bothy (roofed), shown on the map. I followed the track to the col, and then walked up to A’ Chailleach and Carn Sgulain. Descended SSE to Allt Cuil na Caillich, descending through cliffs. Hence I followed Allt a' Chaorainn to rejoin track used on the ascent. Mild for the time of year and misty. Small amounts of lying snow.pwbellarby29/12/1984
