From the cattle grid and followed the fence before crossing and up the heather to the summit. | curlebd | 05/05/2023 |
Couple of spots to park below interesting conglomerate cliff. Attempted to get up the obvious gully between the two cliff faces. Near the top it is possible to duck below a chock stone. However the exit of the gully is wet with loose/bad holds so backtracked under Northern cliff face, over fence and then back South to top. | PeteF | 22/04/2023 |
With Malky from minor road to NE. Found good route up under overhanging cliffs and came down through knee-deep heather along ridge. Overcast and windy. Met a dog walker at top, implausibly. | Rounsfell | 06/08/2022 |
Parked at cattle grid and followed the fence uphill to summit | Nozzer | 18/03/2022 |
From track end at 602293. | vuirich | 30/08/2021 |
Parked at the cattle grid at 602293. Followed the fence uphill W and then SSW till the ridge steepens, then up the LH edge of the slope near the cliff edge through heather. There is a faint but useful path from the top of a steep gully which leads to the crest and along it to the summit. Dry; good views. | dbb | 23/06/2021 |
Narrow path along north ridge, following fence line to Creag nan Clag then through heather to a more easy going summit. | summitter | 04/06/2021 |
Heather | garbo1103 | 09/11/2020 |
Parked at 237 spot height up through the heather with Ellie. | BLACKHILL | 20/09/2020 |
Parked just south of 245 spot height on Loch Ceo Glais. Through metal gate (7 lochs way), across loch outflow, follow track for about 0.5k then south east to top. Drizzled all the way. | iangalbraith | 04/11/2019 |
Solo. As others have done, parked on a minor road at the start of a track at NH602290. Walked up the track to a gate and alongside fences. Then steeply up through vegetation – something of a path higher up. Dun Chia is on the OS 1:25,000 map adjacent to the N top so this would appear to be the name that should be used for this hill. Creag nan Clag is on the map adjacent to the impressive crag on the NE side and must be referring to that. It was a beautiful sunny day, remarkably warm for late September. | pwbellarby | 21/09/2019 |
From the cattle grid parking spot. Hellish ascent, heavenly summit. | Play2End | 07/09/2019 |
An interesting hill, with the fine crags, nice woodland at the start and good views. On the 7 lochs trail as others, and along the fence. There is only a very short section of knee deep heather at the dip where the fence goes AWOL; after that, deer tracks ease the way and merge into a decent path higher up. The summit plateau is interesting too, with a large round bog in the dip below the real summit. | Gill | 09/06/2019 |
2/3.. from limited parking NE where a track for the Seven Lochs Trail cuts the hillside. As other followed to gate then fence to higher ground and both summits. Large cairn passed below first summit and a small group of stones on a rock at the far one, Heather looks a touch higher. | N.Morters | 12/01/2019 |
From start of 'Trail of the Seven Lochs' at NH601292 (about 150m S of the cattle grid). Followed 'T7L' NNW up grassy track to galvanised gate, then L up fence line to where the fence runs under big cliffs. Crossed fence R here and then deep and steep heather up N ridge (no path), pulling and high stepping to easier ground (the last 20% is eased by a 'trench' passing under and R of a small patch of exposed rock). Once over this energetic challenge a small but defined path leads on over easy ground. | Isbjorn | 27/12/2018 |
Up & down via N ridge after negotiating the boggy cow pasture. | Smudge | 26/12/2017 |
Parked just of the road by Loch Duntelchaig at 601 297 and headed straight up the NE ridge. Found a faint path near the stock fence which helped with the knee high heather. This came and went all the way to the first Cairn and the summit beyond. | Peterb | 05/12/2017 |
I parked at the end of the dam that forms the south west end of Loch Duntelchaig. A bit further up the road a track forming a part of the Seven Lochs trail leaves the road. This was quite muddy and took me to an open grassy area where I made a right turn to a post and wire fence. I followed this for a short while until it intersected with another fence and crossed this. I was now into waist high bracken.

I followed this other fence rightwards until it turned towards the conglomerate cliffs that form the most interesting feature of this hill on its east side. Again it was necessary to cross the fence. From there it was a 15 minute battle up steep bracken and heather covered slopes. Eventually the trace of of a trail was found. Being wet it only partially eased the way. I was effectively following a broad north east ridge.

Eventually a cairn was reached that seemed to serve no useful purpose other than to announce that you are about to come to the undulating plateau of a summit. Th | Clach Liath | 27/09/2017 |
Parked near 100m before cattle grid. Then straight up heading to the right of the cliffs. | garyhoney | 30/06/2017 |
Parked near catle grid and headed straight up heather above cliffs. | wozzat | 30/06/2017 |
Started at 602291 and traversed below large conglomerate crags to top of E ridge. Descended N ridge. Mild with SW wind. Small flock of golden plover on summit | LesH | 16/02/2017 |
We started at the north side which was a mistake. The initial path is muddy and cows have left presents. We came off on the right side of the forrest instead and walked over the road to car. Steep hill with amazing cliffs.
Top is on far side well away from silly cairn. | tallblond | 22/01/2017 |

#570 From the cattle grid, still in clag, still no views. | tim747 | 18/03/2016 |
Parked about 150 yards before cattle grid on south side. Up distinct track then NE ridge. Just over one hour return. Solo. | bolton | 07/02/2016 |
W Jenx. Parked at cattle grid in birch trees. NE ridge through the heather. Cairned top not summit, it lies 250m further out. Great viewpoint on a clear crisp day. | nordicstar | 14/01/2016 |
No clag today. A spectacular hill for its height. | jenx | 14/01/2016 |
NE ridge from cattle grid. Short but steep and oh for some kind of track or path through that long heather. | Topographer57 | 27/09/2015 |

Easily up from the minor road to the east | AndrewFinnimore | 23/01/2014 |
Part of circular taking in 'Tom Bailgeann' around little 'Loch Ceo Glais'. Started on this peak from car park at south west end of loch, once over big ridge summit location was one on right for those ascending up easier south western side. On OS map the smaller of two contour rings. | Columba | 29/06/2013 |
Parked to NE on minor road below impressive little cliff, but rock was coarse conglomerate. Rough ascent through heather to R of crag, deep at col. Up steeply to cairn then open ground past wee lochan to two summits, highest being furthest. | Aye Jimmy | 24/10/2011 |
