Not much path (if any) till second deer fence crossing (single step stile) approx. NH 0913 0911 (can be seen from below). Then path (or was it a stream?), leaving this at approx. Long day on South Shiel rigde. Generally overcast, but cloud-free Munros plus views, only a brief rain on the penultimate Munro. I parked at the Glenshiel battle site and caught the service bus (£5.80) to Cluanie. I tagged along behind another pair of walkers and spoke to them a couple of times along the way; they opted for a direct approach to Creag a'Mhaim whilst I continued up the track to the end of the ridge. A good time 2.5 hours to Creag a'Mhaim but subsequently slowed down with each successive re-ascent, but good time overall. The descent from NE ridge of Creag nan Damh is not as striaghtforward as the SMC guide suggests and indeed the last bit through the wood close to road was horrible and involved some controlled drops/slides for the last 10-20 feet. I did not drink enough during the day and choice of food was not great - need to rectify. | langskill | 27/06/2011 |

My first munro with Martin Stewart. We travelled up on the night before crashed into the Cluanie Inn ordered a number of beers just at last orders drank slow as the rain was horizontal, then retired to a layby to bivvy out under some trees whilst finishing a bottle of Irish Cream like Baileys Martin had bought and some whisky. I had a full english before the S Glen Shiel ridge Martin had 4 liquid nurofen for breakfast. I knew then that our first walk together would be an epic. Slow crawl to this summit. An Easter attempt E to W at the South Shiel ridge with Martin66 & Mr T. Fine weather to start but deep soft snow higher up. Dropped my car near the battle site & Martin66 drove us to the Cluanie Inn where we made the usual ascent of Creag a'Mhaim. Soft snow hampered progress over Druim Shionnach, Aonach Air Chrith to Maol Chinn-dearg. A snow shower convinced Mr T. that he had had enough for the day, so we all descended back to the road picking up the path as we got below the snow line. The other two started E towards the Cluanie Inn leaving me with 5.5km of slog along the road W to pick up my car. Got about half way when some mountain rescue lads pulled up in their Land Rover & offered me a lift back to the car. Imagine Martin66 & Mr T's surprise when I turned up in the pub just 10 minutes after they had arrived! | NotReallyABagger | 31/03/1988 |

Cairngorm Club meet at Tomdoun. With Frances and Duncan Macrae-Gibson. From Cluanie Inn along the old road, which used to be the Fort William – Kyle main road, to the point where it crosses Allt Giubhais, then up the north ridge to Creag a’ Mhàim. We went on to Druim Shionach, Aonach air Chrith, Maol Chinn-dearg, Sgurr an Doire Leathain, Sgurr an Lochain, Sgurr Beag, and Creag nan Damh. Descended NE (glissade) and by an indistinct path contouring to the west of Sgurr a’ Chuilinn to meet the road a little above where a car had been positioned. Clear all day. Snow on most of the ridge (soft). A few snowflakes fell in the afternoon. Estimated 5870’ of ascent. | pwbellarby | 30/04/1983 |
