Parked at Caldons, NX396790. Tarmac and forest roads to Glenhead, SUW to NX435790 where an overgrown very faint path, initially through saplings, heads up the E bank of the Shiel Burn, but soon fizzles out in tussocks – least worst going seems to be near the fence – to Nick of the Lochans – Mulldonoch, Nick of the Lochans then a TR around the W flank of Lamachan Hill (traces of path) to Nick of the Brushy – Larg Hill – on to Punch Well Brae, back to Nick of the Brushy – path along N side of wall, then on to Craignaw. A promising path continues from summit WNW until it fizzles out when the veg gets tough – then rough descent down W ridge, via brashings, to join forest road at NX404766. Long drag out along forest roads in big arc to WestIsbjorn29/05/2022
Circuit of hills S of Loch Trool from Loch Trool car park. Followed track to c 1km W of Loch Dee, and took rough ground to reach bealach to W of Curleywee. Traversed to Bennan, back to bealach and then on to Scars of Milldown, Lamachan Hill, Larg Hill, Craignaw, then some contouring round Lamachan Hill to climb Mulldonoch. Descended NNW down to path on S side of Loch Trool (very steep in lower section) and E to join ascent route. Showers, some short spells with sunshine.RobertP21/05/2022
Drove logging road from Borgan to park at end of mapped track (NX 4091 7763), it goes on further but this point worked ok. Up old, mapped, breaks though clear fell until above old tree line then a direct route to the top. On to Mulldonoch, in wind and driving rain. On return picked up continuation of logging road ~500m E of parking spot, after crossing stream. A very wet 7km round (with no over-trousers!). Looks like a new gate going in at Borgan will prevent driving this forest road - new posts are there, presumably gate will follow.jonglew25/09/2021

From Caldons up decent path on east side of burn to bridge then west side of burn thereafter before hitting extended forestry track for a few hundred yards then round and up Craignaw. I talked myself out of Mulldonoch so it will be back later in the year.SS21/03/2021
Parked at Bruce's stone car park near Loch Trool, and gained the high ground by way of the waterfall being fed by the Sheil burn. First popping up Mulldonoch before contouring round Lamachan to the col with Larg hill, visiting the summit of Larg hill and then following the wall and a grassy track to Craignaw. Once I retraced my steps back to the col I continued up to Lamachan hill and then over the Scars of Milldown to reach Curleywee. Returning back to the car by descending White hill which was rough going to reach the Southern upland way. Just over Fourteen mile in Seven hours.WAYNE ROWLETT11/10/2020
Caldons Car Park at 397791 & up to Caldons House - Through side gate, turned right & along grass track & then faint path alongside deer fence to bridge at 407789 - Over bridge & up path on W. side of burn to the confluence with Mulmein Burn - Up W. side of Mulmein Burn for about 80m & then crossed over & picked up a faint ATV track to top of forest - Crossed burn & up to unmarked summit. 2nd hill of five today on a v long alternative Southern Upland Way route from Bargrennan to St. Johns town of Dalry. After Borgan hill, I climbed alongside a burn and emerged on the flanks of Larg hill. I climbed to the summit and it has great views across.Dazingdale09/05/2015
