White trig by mound of stones near edge of pine forest in access land - short grass with some gorse. Extensive views. Approached from track to SE which has unfriendly sign - holiday caravans. | Denise | 18/11/2023 |
From New Road, steep but fairly direct on MTB(?) trails. | jacobrichmond | 16/11/2023 |
Bashed my way up through thorny vegetation. More sensibly took the good path back! From Rhyd-y-foel. | David Bremner | 06/10/2023 |
From New road, Terfyn. | alunrees1983 | 30/09/2023 |
from abergele | underhill | 13/08/2022 |
Previous attempts from Rhyd-y-foel were thwarted by gorse, so opted for the New Road & zig-zag path route. | tim747 | 17/01/2022 |
Walked up steep zig zag from drive opposite New Road and down via the gentle slope to Rhyd-y-foel. Took my dogs and it was great--no stiles or sheep. Great views over Llanddulas and towards Great Orme | mborg | 22/08/2021 |
As gerrybowes. | PGCE | 15/08/2021 |
Parked on New Road in Terfyn | WelshMountainGoat38 | 10/04/2021 |
Road Parking in Terfyn. Pleasant stroll through the woods on the way up and managed to find the Watch tower that overlooks the A55!! Good views for modest height. | alunrees37 | 29/06/2020 |
Parked near the top of Ffordd Newydd in Llanddulas at SH 7123 7780 - Up to junction, across road & up driveway for about 15yd to start of path - Up steep path on right side of quarry to wall - Keeping to right of wall, headed SW for about 400m to stile - Over stile & a short walk to obvious summit & trig point. Using the diagonal path from SH91287703. | summitsup | 14/04/2019 |
With Dad. 1000th Hump. | ianwatson | 14/10/2018 |
Walked up from outside Gwrych Castle - I was glad to get to the top. Very windy by the pillar. I walked back down a different way. | Alancache | 25/04/2018 |
From New Road up drive and past house. Kept to zig zag path and, although they are large zigs and zags, it got me up there easily enough. Nice views. | clivevilla | 28/03/2018 |
Parked w Jenx off to SW on village green of Rhyd-y-Foel. Found path into woods w concrete steps nr main road, easy from there. Near top of diagonal line possible to cut more directly to top avoiding gorse scrub | nordicstar | 22/03/2018 |
Up from New Road (plenty of parking). Immediately after starting up the driveway to a house went up a steep zig-zag path on the left. A nice top. Tried to go down the access land on the NW side of the fence and wall going from the top to Rhyd-y-foel but had to turn back as I couldn't get through the woodland. | Alan Moore | 26/01/2018 |
Fron Rhyd y Foel up through wood. Excellent views. With RW. | JohnIvor | 13/01/2018 |
Parked at end of New Road, used route suggested by andrew brown. Zig-zags a bit complicated, passed an ogof, steeply up. Short tough non-prickly vegetation helpful - what is it? Then along shoulder to top. | Aye Jimmy | 31/12/2017 |
A quick bag from suburbia (Terfyn) footpath zigs and zags up edge of old quarry through Pines / Yew / Juniper / wild cotoneaster? Followed wall / edge of forestry to summit and trig. Fine views. | briandavies | 24/12/2017 |
Parked on new road. Excellent views form the summit | Alunrees33 | 17/10/2017 |
Not well signposted but followed a track to the summit, great views of the coast and Snowdonia. | Sihuws | 17/09/2017 |
P Llys Awel. First up Cefn yr Ogof then down the road to Pen-y-c-m. | chrisbien | 10/06/2017 |
Tried to get up track from S, but gave up due to brambly overgrown southern end of path. Had a second more successful go from Terfyn. | PeteF | 30/04/2017 |
From sea level, through middle gates and head up steep path, heading east passing tower. noone seems to do it this way.. struggled a bit, getting very unfit. carneddau invisible! Way back above Gwrych Castle.. its going to cost a fortune to get it repaired.. | mattcymru | 13/02/2017 |
Straightforward walk up from rhyd y Foel followed track from bottom of village green. Clear views on a sunny spring like day although a bit cooler on the top. Short diversion through the woods to the tower on the way back. | Walker Dan | 20/01/2017 |
Small bagging day in the rain after the previous days exertions 4/9 (Cefn Ddu/Moel Tryfan/Mynydd y Cwm/Cefn yr Ogof/Moelfree Isaf/Moel Fodiar/Moel Tywysog/Mynydd Tryfan/Pen-y-Coed) | Fergalh | 16/10/2016 |
Keep to paths! Leave any attempted shortcut to the rabbits and the gorse! | jrj | 13/10/2016 |
From Rhyd-y-foel. You need to take the paths from the N side of the triangle. Concrete blocks, presumably to deter trail bikes (good!)- the paths lead straight onto access land, interesting scrub and limestone grassland higher up. No signage but well used paths, good info about hill in Valentine (pub- also well worth a visit) in Llanddulas. | pwheeler | 12/09/2016 |
Bagged as YSM372 Cefn-Yr-Ogof T2.5 D3. The Hill bagging website said 'Park on wide streets of housing estate at 913778. A tarmac road leads up diagonally to a house and a narrow gate and path to the left continues up through the wood with 2 zig zags and to the top.' So we tried the hoose nearest the top of the hill but he was reluctant to let us park and we'd probably have had to walk through his garden to get into the wood. However after some sweet talking from Mr U2 he let us know about a secret path between two boulders down at 'the green' which went up the hill and along to the trig. So we took this (N53° 16.747' W3° 37.918'). Took a man path in one section which was very steep but direct otherwise relatively painless. | thejackrustles | 03/08/2016 |
With K. Magical area that really deserves it's SSSI status; much botanical excitement. Worth exploring for a while. Many routes with no access problems. Area is obviously well loved. | Ashley | 12/07/2016 |
From path through wood by Terfyn. Very difficult to locate as there are lots of paths but only a few to the summit. Only suitable in dry weather (lots of scree). Worth it for the extensive views. | JamesD1972 | 10/05/2016 |
As arranc but scrambled up through the crags and steep paths - wonderful! | Chris Peart | 09/03/2016 |
204m - Lovely day in winter, also saw the lookout tower. | Rob-Nia | 23/02/2016 |
Got this one totally wrong. Walked up wrong hill and had to go miles further than expected finding my way onto the right hill- no easy route onto summit from south but worth all the effort in the end. | Mark Sims | 24/08/2015 |
freshly painted trig | Adrian | 19/04/2015 |
Parked at rhyd y Foel ad followed track from bottom of village green | Thearlaichdubh | 22/03/2015 |
trip up with alex c to paint trig point again. very cold! | mattcymru | 22/01/2015 |
Latest ascent of many.. Trig paint has been almost completely worn away by weather. Snowdonia hiding today. Highly dangerous wet descent via old steps and caves | mattcymru | 17/12/2014 |
Parked on new road. Went to the caves and through the woods past the ruins of Gwyrch castle then up to the summit on return. Excellent views for modest height. Only regret was not going up to the watch tower!! | AlunRees31 | 13/02/2014 |
En route to Elin's Tower. | mad max | 14/06/2013 |
Park on wide streets of housing estate at 913778. A tarmac road leads up diagonally to a house and a narrow gate and path to the left continues up through the wood with 2 zig zags and to the top. | arranc | 29/05/2013 |
With Bill and Andy. Parked in residential street to west. Steeply up past the cliffs. Lovely hill but pity about the litter. Descended through the plantations outwith the Access Land visited the ruins of Castel Gwrych on return these are incredible and well worth a visit. Scrambled up to the large cave in the cliffs but descent almost terminal on the wet limestone. | mick | 16/05/2013 |
With Mick and Andy | BillyP | 16/05/2013 |
Parked on residential road at SH 91232 77802. Then route described by Des Taylor team. (It's steep!) Well done on your completion Des. | David Gradwell | 07/04/2013 |
Bagged with a group to celebrate Des Taylor's completion of the English and Welsh HuMPs. | Alan Caine | 24/11/2012 |
Last E&W HuMP. Excellent company and good weather. Easy parking in New Road. A fine route provided by Alec Cameron. Up the track for several metres and then straight up a fairly steep path. He took us to the Folly then the summit. Cake and a a few bubbles. Then to the pub. Excellent day - thanks to all. No mention of DL P30. | destaylor | 24/11/2012 |
From Terfyn (plenty of parking on road), with detour to tower for view. Des Taylor's E&W HuMP completion. A fine hill. Prominence now likely to be 102m, as trig is lower than summit. | Man of Kernow1 | 24/11/2012 |
Via track that starts around SH 91310 77810 to the tower in the wood then the trig with the help of "trigging on an island" our local guide for Des Taylor's Welsh HuMP completion. He still has to go back to rebag the real top of The Verne in the prison. | Dugswell2 | 24/11/2012 |
With the completion party. We seemed to scare off a few locals taking their morning constitutional. Although not access land, the adjacent & pleasant woodland to NE seems to be owned by a visitor friendly trust. | Smudge | 24/11/2012 |
