Parked near Borrowdale Gates Hotel for a circuit of High Spy North Top and Nitting Haws. Up via Maiden Moor. | PGCE | 04/09/2023 |
From Grange, space for a couple of cars near Borrowdale Gates hotel at start of path. Followed good path up, then onto to Low Scawdel, High Spy and High Spy North top. | PeterD | 20/04/2023 |
The Newlands Horseshoe anticlockwise from Little Town, with the aim of collecting 7 Birketts / Synges not yet visited on my countless walks along the main ridges. So rather than ascending Robinson, I took the Scope End ridge direct up to Hindscarth, visiting the summits of Scope End, Red Knott and High Crags enroute. Then the usual path to Dale Head. Descended part way towards Honister Pass, taking minor track in a long sweep across the boggy High Scawdel, dropping past the head of Tongue Gill. There then followed very tough terrain along the side of High Spy to bag Low Scawdel and Nitting Haws. From there used the track to bring me out onto the main ridge. Headed S to the main top, then returned N to the N Top. Followed the wonderful cliff edge track to the summit of Maiden Moor, then on along the main track, before dropping steeply down the east side of the crags and across the undulating shelf to High Crags, and back to Little Town. 18km with 1200m ascent, taking me 7 hours. | silveracorn_alan | 25/10/2022 |
From little town farm up to the col between Cat Bells and Bull Crag, up over Maiden Moor to Grid 235269 descend the path to Nitting Haws. Return to Grid 235269. continue back to Grid 242187 contour over rough steep ground and descend to High Crag. pick up sheep tracks back to the main path Grid 242191 and back down to the start. Path down to Nitting haws mostly washed away. and know paths to High Crag from Bull Crag. | smocks and denims | 13/10/2022 |
From Low Scawdel. After negotiating the crags, followed a thin path alongside the stream then crossed to climb NH. Epic descent to Grange finding path down crags and across the boulderfield. Not where the OS say a path should be ! | Moorponder | 29/04/2022 |

Last of 8 hills on a round from Borrowdale YHA. Descended directly from High Spy N Top over steep rough ground. Nitting Haws, a fine rocky boss, looks far more spectactular from the valley, but it's ok from up here also although overshadowed by its higher and larger neighbour High Stele Knott. Interesting descent trying to follow the path the runs beneath the crag; ended up with some challenging rock climbing, and very steep scree slopes. | jonglew | 06/03/2017 |

Large f/p opposite Borrowdale Gates Hotel at N end of Grange leads straight up to grassy shoulder high on the hill. Excellent f/p across below summit cliffs lands on Nitting Haws. Slightly lower rocky outcrop to the east is fine viewpoint. Continued to Low Scawdel. | Aye Jimmy | 08/10/2015 |

A superb viewpoint. If returning down the footpath towards Grange careful navigation is required to ensure that you stay on its used line. If you stray off, going too far east you will finish up on steep, unstable scree which has the potential to send you careering downwards. If you reach the start/end of this scree, do not proceed but check where the path actually is. | moorsman | 21/06/2014 |
With Jo, linear walk from Grange: Nitting Haws via drove road, High Spy North Top (Blea Crag), Maiden Moor, descending to Lodore. Weather; sunny, warm, good visibility. | amblerbob | 19/04/2014 |
Low cloud, cold and windy, so decided to visit Borrowdale viewpoints as a complete change. Little lump of Nitting Haws hardly a summit but a great view, and easy, pleasant stroll to Low Scawdel, followed by pleasant contouring to the hause below High Scawdel. Glad I did this. High Crags, Maiden Moor, High Spy North Top, Nitting Haws, Low Scawdel, High Scawdel, Newlands valley. | ijpowell | 28/03/2014 |
