From start of windfarm track just south of Loch na Creige: Meall Dearg Far West Top, Creag na Loch, Meall Dearg and MD West Top, then due north through hole in fence following burn/firebreak back to Windfarm Track. With FY.TRG31805/07/2023
Insufficient room to park at White Cairn without blocking access, so parked at a small gravel layby about 200m south of the Cochill Burn bridge. Pathless trudge straight to the summit and back across the usual mix of tussocks, heather and burnt heather, thankfully dry underfoot today. Not much to recommend this hill, but the views to Schiehallion are decent and there are more distant views to the snow capped higher hills of Beinn a' Ghlo and beyond too.Owen B26/04/2023
From parking at head of Loch na Creige using forest track to Loch Hoil and windfarm, on towards Meal Dubh following ridge to the north of Loch Fender using mix of 4x4 and stalker tracks to Meall Dearg. Descent to east of Meall Dearg and following 4x4 track to General Wade’s Military Road, through forest to return to car park. Forest track very wet/flooded in places and hard to navigate. If possible stay south of fence and cross through fence further down.raymooremanx11/03/2023
Parked just north of the bridge on the A826, north of the White Cairn track. Very limited parking on this road. My spot was at the wide gated track entrance to some transmitter masts. Direct walk over rough moorland to the south top then up to the trig on the summit. A dreary dull hill. I can’t think of many that are worse! Solo.Dangerous Dave12/11/2022
from A826 along Wind Farm track, then S-bound track to MD Far West Top and across to near W Top. Back N-wards and followed stream through forest back to track.IanHHill21/08/2022
Parked in two-car layby at NN898435 and crossed Cochill burn up to newish bulldozed track, followed that almost to summit. Bothered by flies most of the way. Pathless section rougher than expected. Shower on way up. Rounsfell02/08/2022
Parked through the gate, safer off the road. Fairly easy goung up , you can pick your way through burned bits of Heather. Trigpoint on top. With Margaret Y.tallblond10/04/2022
A very easy walk from good parking by the postbox at the A822/A826 junction. A possible non-council no parking sign is broken, illegible and on the deck; should it be revived, there is a lay-by across the road. Through the gate and up the field to skirt S and W of Cablea (no access from the E), over a wooden fence to join the hill track. Up this to the E of the 650m bump, then horrid heather and hags to the bealach and up the hill steeply and better, dodging rotten snow. Much easier to go W of the 650m bump on return, mainly peat and short mossy grass, better in ascent too I should think.Gill28/02/2022
Lovely walk from Turrerich, over Creag an Loch to Meall Dearg, then down to wester kinloch and a walk along the north side of Loch Freuchie taking in the many clearance villages. beautiful day, spring likehils21/01/2022

3rd Graham of the day! Straight up from near White Cairn. Work party near summit cutting self sown conifers. Why?MichaelF28/09/2021
Parking at Cablea to SE (NN918386) discouraged plus sign states no access to hill. So parked narrow lay-by NN 9149 3902 - a bit narrow and despite being near a bend, my car came to no harm on this busy road. Accessed land at edge of wood to north (NN 9127 3911) and SW to pick up track.carole engel05/06/2021
Round of Far West top, Creag an Loch and Meall Dearg from Griffen car park. Not being very imaginative with the route, just followed the one in the SMC book. Hot day but lovely cool breeze higher up. Superb day out.Fife Walking30/05/2021
From parking at entrance to windfarm tracks by S end of Loch na Creige on A826, S along tracks to side track at NN889434, used that to cross stream, then followed intermittent track at forest edge following stream to junction with a stream from the S in a small ravine, followed up that to forest edge, climbed deer fence, crossed a vehicle track then headed more or less directly up Meall Dearg to summit, descended SW to outflow from Loch Fender, then up Creag an Loch, descended N to a vehicle track (unmarked on maps) which continued to summit of Meall Dearg Far West Top, descended N to main tracks, then E into forest near outflow from Loch Hoil and back along main tracks to startkdbennett25/10/2020

ACW round of Glen Fender from Milton: Beinn Liath, Meall Dearg S, Main, W and Far W tops, Creag an Loch, Creag nan Gabhar and Craig Hulich, returning along the military road. The modest summit crag of Meall Dearg's S top conceals a band of white quartz (and a quartz tortoise is approaching the summit of Craig Hulich from the North West...)Nick Down129/08/2020
From wind farm entrance at 885450 (15:25), to junction at 880435. The ford there on the 1:25k map is now a bridge, but the track shown winding S from there to the forest edge is little more than a faint path, albeit following an easy line. The moorland is trackless, but not too hard through short March vegetation in good weather. Back by same route; finish 18:05dbb22/03/2020
From ESE, gate by White Cairn on A826. Followed short track to Military Road then straight to summit. Followed by Meall Dearg South Top. With PM.CJM10/11/2019
From the gate at 908412. Up General Wades road to the bend and then directly to the summit with CM. Just over 2 hours in very cold but clear conditions.bolton10/11/2019

Not sure about going up, strong wind in valley and squally rain but turned out OK. A round of 5 tops from glen Quaich. Creag Choille; past new wind turbines to Meall Odhar; on to Meall Dearg Far W top; Meall Dearg; Creag an Loch and down to track. A nice round in the end.dickscroop03/06/2019

3rd of an anti-clockwise round of the Glen Fender hills, starting and finishing from Milton. A series of tracks (if your'e on them) or scars (if you are looking at them) make this a pretty straightforward walk (about 4 hrs in total).summitter10/02/2019
A lovely crisp clear walking day. With Brian from the road junction up the good track. Great views.Play2End30/01/2019
With Clare, Jon, Will, Mark and Hannah.Grinner13/12/2018
A plethora of no parking signs one side of road at junction of A822 & A826 so parked other side, sufficient space for 2 cars. NW along A826 for couple of hundred metres took track to Cablea & followed it along Glen Fender. Along ridge, hood up, into ice spindrift. 4 hours in snow.rogreeves30/03/2018
Solo jog/walk directly up from the road to the east. Not much to recommend on that route apart from its relative brevity.amswanston08/01/2017

From Glen Fender: the zigzag track on the map now continues to within about 0.5km of the summit. It's shown on Google satellite view. We started at Amulree, although there is parking at the A826/A822 junction which is nearer.Pete R30/04/2016

After ascending Meall Odhar, Creag Choille, Meall Dearg Far West Top and Creag an Loch. Now very misty so careful navigation down to the outfall of Loch Fender and up to the summit of Meall Dearg. Descended NE to a track I seen from the road which was not on my 1:50,000 map. Track went SE - wrong direction for me. Decided to follow the line of General Wade's Road through the forest back to car. A miserable wet experience, best avoided!pwbellarby14/06/2014

Forestry road from Griffin Forest CP to Loch Hoil is closed to public. Went to see, and was escorted through forest by site manager after discussion on access. This route will be difficult for some time, they are building a wind farm near Loch Hoil.neimcv29/03/2012
