My first new marilyn following a kneee injury which kept had me out of action for 3 months. Tried to park at the station in one of the marked spaces where a Network Rail sign said, residential area, keep quiet. No problem, we weren't going to make much noise putting boots on! Out she came, the self-appointed traffic warden for the area, who told us that those spaces were for station users only. She told us that the Forestry website said that there was no parking at the station and that THE walk started in Arrochar. She didn't seem to understand the concept that we were doing A walk not THE walk and didn't need to start at any designated starting point. Anyway we moved to the bellend at NN 30477 04236 which probably worked out for the best as the path from the station is still closed off due to forestry operations. Ascent via the south face path. Descent to the south west where there is a bit of a path.Fife Walking01/07/2023
Parked at station. Closed paths did not help, but eventually got over forest track and uphill. Made a bit of mess coming out of forest and ended up in tussocks, once back on path ok to top. Good views on clear day. Followed path back down.PeterD07/06/2023
Staying at Tarbert Hotel, morning bag before heading North from station. Snowy, so avoided worst of bogs.davechaffey16/03/2023
Ascended from Three Lochs Way after walking round the Heritage Trail (Tarbet/Arrochar) and to look at a couple of other sites. Fallen trees over path in woods at approx NN 311 050 had been partially removed to make access easier but path at NN 31150 04709 directly down to station still closed despite sign saying would be cleared by July 2022. Just went back towards Arrochar and then rejoined route down to station from NN 30779 04390. Could not do planned circuit/recce down east side of Cruach Tairbeirt as forestry operations mean the whole area currently closed.Heather TS07/03/2023
From the restaurant, up to the Station and the swung right on the path. Followed marked / taped diversion up to forestry site, path up through felled area yhen in the tree another taped trail avoiding windfalls. Above the wood a wet but obvious path.Moorponder30/01/2023
With husband. As previous reports have commented, we were addressed by a local ‘car parking ‘ monitor. She told us that 1) the road was private _ No signage. And i believe it is a council road 2) if we were hill walking, then it was stated there was no parking here, and 3) we would need to move our car. Where are car drivers meant to leave their car if they are getting a train ? I should have been quicker in my reply…… We had checked out parking day previous, and the two cars already parked up had been there when we recc’d parking. I will take this up with official bodies. So we parked car at bell end of FLS access towards Arrochar. Walked Along main forestry road, until a stream with a pole marking start of a hill path. Thank You to who ever tied broad white tape around trees to hilight the route. One or two trees require clamber over under. Out of forest the way is v obvious. Many days of previous rainfall made this v wet and in places boggy. A great view from hill top. A VerySlowPlodder01/11/2022
Walked up forest track chatting with Michael Coates and completely missed the left turn, so hack up step ascent through trees then followed best line through tussocks all the way to summit. Returned by path we should have ascended back as far as the forest track turning right and back to van. very pleasant leg stretch after exhausting day on The Paps of Jura day two days ago, ready for ascent up The Cobbler tomorrow.mntainman10/04/2022
From Arrochar and Tarbet station, through underpass, right at wooden barrier, followed path alongside wall, to pick up path going uphill, cross forest track, up into trees, finally bearing right to open ground and on to summit. Path marked most of the way with occasional strips of white tape. Excellent viewpoint, all the more so because the conditions were still and clear but very cold.MichaelF01/04/2022
Parked at station but told off by local busybody who insisted I park elsewhere, so to keep the peace (and avoid coming back to a flat tyre or worse) moved the car to nearby Ballyhennan Crescent. Back at the station went under railway and followed track to summit, turning right at T-junction and stepping over several fallen trees.Tony J01/04/2022
A very good and straightforward walk up a good path from Arrochar station. Along the wall then up the W bank of the burn over easy wind throw, over the forest road, up through a cleared area crossing to the E side half way up, then through trees where a white marker indicates R turn to clamber over more wind throw in a bog, then you're out onto the open hill on a good path to the top, with a few Arrochar style step ups and squidgy ground. Fine views.Gill13/03/2022
From the station. Underpass, then right and follow the burn to the gravel road and continue upwards until you emerge from the forest. Decent path to the summit. Windy and showery but clear. With Gill.bolton13/03/2022
From Tarbert station along the hill path. Visited the summit and four adjacent knolls while admiring the Arrochars and Ben Lomond in snow. Down snowy slopes and through woods to the North Top, then through widely spaced trees to Glen Loin and back along the Three Lochs Way.Nick Down125/02/2022
The usual path from the railway station. Once through the underpass turn immediately right and follow a path running along a stone wall and above the train line. Once a burn is reached it heads uphill, across a forestry road, through cut trees, then remaining forest. White markers direct most of the way until the path pops out on open ground.summitter27/11/2021
By Bus, all the way from Fife, via Glasgow.BasherBob22/11/2021
As I was also staying at the holiday let next to the Ben Arthur Bothy, I went the same way as pwheeler to the top. This also included the white ribbons and sodden ground but not the forestry equipment.Alan Moore14/10/2021
Yet another ascent of this hill - this time from Arrochar by phone box up long SW ridge then down more directly to the South and along 3 Lochs Way back to Arrochar.sclater04/11/2020
Nice walk, great views from the summit of Loch Lomond and other summits.Missphoton04/11/2020
After suicide mission on Beinn an Lochain. Pleasant resident present.iangpark23/03/2020
As we were staying at a holiday let by the Ben Arthur bothy we walked from there, starting up a signposted path 100 m N on the A83 and following the 3 Lochs way to the path used by others from A&T sta. Some white ribbons were still there to guide us out of the forest and the path could be followed easily, though through much sodden terrain to the HP. Limited views with 2500 ft cloudbase and showers but a pleasant walk. Return same way off hill, then memorial and Village Inn. With brother, Pete.Lots of forestry eqpt inc. Jaw Breaker trucks- glad we did it on a Su.pwheeler15/03/2020
Parked at the restaurant, walked under the railway line following the path until a’path closed sign’. Straight up hill to the new forestry track, then right for 200m then up hill on right of burn joining the hill path just below the big trees. Follow path up then right to outside the wood and then an easy steep walk up to the top.Simon Winton04/03/2020
Advised by local woman not to use the Station 'Car Park' but to park at the restaurant instead! Back up to the station and under the railway and immediately turned right. The loop is now closed but no forestry work today. Followed path up to forest track and crossed over and continued on the path passing a bench and then a bit further crossed the stream and headed up through the trees following the path to the top.curlebd18/01/2020
Paused on the way home from Corrour to do this hill between trains. Up and down in 1.5 hours including long stop on top to admire views. No forestry work on Sunday.garyhoney20/10/2019
From station to south, mapped path thru' woods from NN 3121 0460. After crossing stream, first 100m north has been felled leaving brash. Once in wood, open and easy to walk thru' - path indistinct. Leave wood NN 31181 05160 for good path wending thru' tussocks and bracken to top. Nice walk once path found - mostly on return!carole engel09/09/2019
cruach tairbeirt, 2nd visit to this top. cruach tairbeirt north top, kenmore hill, dubh chnoc, from tarbet back along glen loin cowal way.robertphillips06/07/2019
A group walk doing the Glen Loin Loop as a warm up before Iain and I climbed Cruach Tairbeirt, a great wee hill of character with superb views of the Arrochar Alps, Loch Long, Loch Lomond, Ben Lomond and other surrounding hills.Chris Mac23/03/2019
Up from Tarbet after parking in the retaurant car park, don't park at the station itself as you'll get shouted at. Used the forestry tracks to reach a track up through the trees & out on to the open hillside. Signs abound saying the routes are closed for forestry work but none going on this day so pressed on with no problems. On own.MorecambeMonkey27/11/2018

As Mark Jackson. Saw a digger working with the felled trees by the new track on the way down. Excellent viewpoint.Owen B18/05/2018
From Tarbet rly stn with nephew Andrew Purkiss. Track closed for forestry work until Dec 2018. Ignored that as no sight or sound of any operations in progress. Good track up through the forest then fainter but defined track on open hillside. HP 5m W of trig pillar.jonglew30/04/2018
From Tarbet station. Path fenced off temporary due to felling works, being Sunday proceeded with caution. Up the good path to the summit, little boggy higher up. Great viewpoint.N.Morters25/03/2018
Parked at the railway station (and got told off by a local woman on my return!). Solo.Dangerous Dave26/02/2018
From Tarbet station. More pleasant walk than expected due to path through fallen trees and finding the track mentioned above the trees. Keep close to the burn in the upper forest and you won't go far wrong - Mark Jackson's description was useful. Views good considering the weather. Solo.assynt_bob01/10/2017
M J O. Beautiful still day. From Tarbet station.Martin6617/09/2017
This one is an easy climb from Tarbet station, as long as you don't lose the path (which I did). After passing under the railway turn R signposted 'Cruach Tairbeirt Loop'. Then uphill crossing a track. The path has been chainsawed free of fallen trees. At about 175m it crosses the stream and heads downhill again but from here a path continues upstream under trees past a row of fallen trees that have created a giant wall of earth. About 5-10 mins afterwards white ribbons on trees and a glimpse of daylight guide you right onto open hillside at NN311051. (Do not continue too far up the stream!) From here a decent path leads through bracken and crags to the top.Mark Jackson25/08/2017
Great top to fill in a few hours between trains headed up towards Oban.Alex C12/08/2017
Early evening walk up from Arrochar station in the sunshine. Excellent viewpoint.Winterfloodian18/07/2017

From Arrochar, via Glen Loin then ascending from the west. Surprisingly easy going! Approx route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.com/2017/04/cruach-tairbeirt-nn312058-415m.htmlGayle25/04/2017
Third visit, in order to claim outlying Tumps to the north. Path hasn't improved muchColin Crawford09/03/2017
On way home, midges biting. From Tarbet, then went in the cafe in the church. Under railway to start up through trees.nickywood111/06/2016
Lots of fallen trees, then tussocks and bracken making path difficult to follow. But a fabulous viewpoint.hillsman13/10/2015
This hill suffers from a lot of fallen down trees and tussocks. So take the red path to the right, follow it around, up and than right up to a bench.that is a decent spot to cross the trees for 50 mtrs.. hill has bracken and tussocks. Not easy going as there no real tracks. Not until higher up.tallblond30/08/2015
park in slanji bar cp up through woods to the top.robertphillips18/08/2015
From the Loch Long Hotel Arrochar. Fallen trees to get around north of the railway station but otherwise a straight forward route done in snow. Operated for SOTA from the summit GM4OBK/PG4OBK (Phil)03/02/2015

Easier than expected up through trees from station and onto summit.AndrewFinnimore02/10/2014
Climbed with Natalie, Jordan and Josh during our very short stay in Arrochar. From Slanj Bar car park under railway and straight up via marked path (red hoop) through forest, bracken and bog. Great views in all directions. Slanj Bar is a welcoming venue for a well earned post walk drink!!callumorr26/07/2014
With Brian R. Lovely in the woods, then cool but clear to the top. Did this instead of a Munro as somebody stole Brian's waterproof trousers.Play2End30/03/2014
From Tarbert station, car parking supposedly restricted according to lady resident. Went direct up red route to high point, then up through trees. Lots of wind-throw to negotiate, just keep burn to left and keep going. Out of trees a path forms and leads to top with great views. Back same way.nordicstar29/03/2014
