Logged Descriptions  (logged by 38 users)ByDate of Ascent
A triple mainland Marilyn completion for Eric Young, Iain Brown and myself. From Sandwood Bay cp, via Sandwood Bay and Strathchailleach bothy. Superb weather, dry and crispy underfoot and incredible views in every direction.Campbell Singer12/05/2019
With GN , from Fashven, taking a fairly direct line after avoiding initial cragstrimarc207/05/2019
A fine circuit from the bridge to the NE of Gualin House. Dry bogs over the watershed to cross the Abhainn an t'Srathain and up the Alltan a'Choin Duibhe to Meall Dearg, and on to An Grianan. Too hot for the direct ascent, so I snuck round the W side. Down to Loch a'Phuill Bhuidhe and contoured round to Bealach Coire a'Chuidhe and up Beinn Dearg (knock that boulder over and make it a Hump again?). Up the W side of Creag Riabhach and a fine ridge walk to Meall na Moine. The trudge back over the pass is character forming, as it never really turns into a descent.Gill22/04/2019
S/F main carpark. Cycled to where track becomes footpath. Boots off to cross stream coming out of Sandwood Loch. Then more or less direct line to summit via lochan. 3 hrs. Fortunately pretty dry underfoot though normally this would be a very boggy route I suspect. Interesting summit plateau of rocks, stones and sand.AndrewFinnimore19/04/2019
Parked at Sandwood Bay car park. Strathan bothy, Beinn Dearg, Strathchailleach bothy, Sandwood Bay.PGCE27/02/2019
Parked just S of Carbreck on A838. Over Am Beallach, staying south of the Allt na Creige Riabhaich until it crossed the 160m contour (rough walking). On return stayed N of the river, as walking was easier to the N. Crossed at 310626 to avoid the River Grudie crossing. Worth the walk - great views from the summit.LizH11/11/2018
A very windy ascent from Strathchailleach across reasonable terrain.Chris Peart04/11/2018
Second visit, somewhere in the wake of Chris Peart, in very windy conditions. Glad to drop back down to Strathchailleach bothyColin Crawford04/11/2018
Large cairn on large rocky plateau. After a night at the excellent Strathchailleach Bothy. Managed to cross the Strath Chailleach river by boulder hopping, then over pathless rough tussocky terrain to a windy summit with wild hazy views. For Richard, a recompletion of his Scottish Marilyns.Denise 11/10/2018
Early morning ascent (well, left at first light) from Strathchailleach bothy. Wind swept summit plateau with outcrops of red sandstone and small sand dunes, some grass with a little short heather. A constant 30/35mph SSE wind, Hazy views. I thought the high point was probably under the large shapely cairn as edge of base same height as the gneiss rock.RichardM11/10/2018
From high point in road above Inshore. Over Moavally, then across to Beinn Dearg, and back via Beinn an Duibhe. A fine trek around using the limited time between first and last ferry/bus.jenx25/08/2018
A good walk in from Carbreck following ATV track in part and keeping to the north side of the Allt Riabhach. Crossing of the Grundie would be problematic after wet weather.Tony S13/08/2018
Via Sandwood Bay. Richtea5040 was at the CP at the same time, so done together.mae08/08/2018

Climbed with Jenx and Bryher 25/08/2018 (date preserves actual Marilyn completion). Used the first ferry and minibus to alight under Sgribhis-Bheinn, climbed Maovally and descended towards the promoted Hump Beinn Dearg and 5km of wet tussocky grass. Deer tracks, stream banks and the odd ATV line helped but a bit of a slog. The drier weather earlier in the summer would have helped. A fine sandstone top with interesting features, I'm sure the top block of quartzite could be moved if someone so wished so. A return line back direct to Inshore cott, then road and diversion to climb the last Hump in the CW area Beinn an Duibhe before a dash to the last ferry back that day. A good stroll round a memorable area.nordicstar25/09/2016
