Day started fine and humid. After long drive from Northumberland, we went up from the car park with full packs and tents with the hope of wildcamping on the summit. Weather turned on us halfway up with rain but worse was to come. We abandoned heavy packs before last push to the summit. Weather came in really hard on the top with high winds and cold freezing rain. Visibility dropped and we had to use GPS to get back off the top. My extra layers were still in my pack further below and we had to make a hasty retreat after bagging the top. Shivering with cold, wind, and more rain... we abandoned the idea of camping on the top and set up camp back at the car park. My first Munro bagged. | NorthernWayfarer | 01/08/2018 |
