A perfect day. Hard frost all day. Snow dusting on the hills. Blue sky and sunshine and NO WIND. Morning walk on magical East Burra down from Bridge End with L. Met Caroline -about to go for her daily sea swim ! (just in her costume !!) Then met Dave the proud Australian at his wonderful quirky Outpost home / where he welcomes all (often with free homemade cider)to chat and feed his wallabies, emu, goats, and pigs. Dave (in shorts despite the freeze) was preparing his BBQ to celebrate Australia Day (today). Then over Ward of Symbister first, then along the rising cliff tops on the east coast (fulmers swooping) before tussocky frozen going to this flat top (a moorland pudding but with fine views and a skirt of jewels in its coastline). Then walked back to Bridge End - carefully avoiding 'going for a burton' on the hard water ice on the track. Even the water in the bay inlet was frozen at low tide where fresh water enters.Chris Pearson26/01/2021
A raw Christmas Day 2 hr run with L down the road from Meal into a strong SW wind (gusting 42mph). Snail pace on the run down, galloping gazelles with wind on our backs on the return. A lovely place to be on a wild deserted day. Flat moorland top. Its treasure lie 5 mins beyond with a sea arch and today - fulmers riding the strong updraught. 'Wind propelled' return journey first over Ward of Symbister.Chris Pearson25/12/2020
17.19 long walk out to the flat low some of an island. Lot of black backed gulls very agitated. Unsurprising as I came across separately two little fluffy grey with black spots chicks.vegibagger08/06/2019
From end of the public road. Symbister first. This hill completes the East Burra tumps.jonglew07/06/2019
Tussock; tumulus 90m NE slightly lower. Greater black-backs not at all happy; saw me photographing their chicks and wanting royalties perhaps. The two southern tumps - my final East Burra tump.RHW24/06/2016
