Rough and boggy circuit from parking at Orbost | govanah | 17/09/2023 |
With Dave Roeder. Parked at Orbost and followed the road and start of Dunvegan path, then the fence line WSW from NG 256445 till it bends southward. Then W over the low col and the Osdale river to the E ridge of the North Table. Fortunately reasonably dry going. Long pull up to the summit (in cloud, 13:10). Followed the ridge line round over Beinn na h-Uamha to the South Table, also in cloud (15:05). Continued S then SE to Beinn Bhac-ghlais (not in cloud, 16:30). Descended the ridge ENE and finally S to a wet track which led past NG 246407 to the Idrigill track and thence back to the car park (18:25). Long day, few summit views but no rain. | dbb | 13/05/2023 |
The easy way. Bike to 249 408. ATV track up to just below point 282, then ridge. Off south to 4 other hills | PeteN | 22/12/2021 |
Climbed from Orbost, walked down the track south, across bridge and then up through the forest. Bad mistake with lots of wind blown trees so headed west to get around them. Finally got out on to the open hill but still a long climb to the top. Then over to Healabhal Bheag. 3 of 7 | Simon Winton | 13/03/2020 |
A grim struggle on the way out and a much better route back. Hint: don't go up through the forestry to Cnoc na Pairce. The cleared area is horribly overgrown, so we went up through the forestry. Although it looks good at the start, it is full of awful wind throw. The good route (our descent in reverse): park at Orbost farm, follow the Idrigill point track to the cattle grid, then go over a small gate on the right, a good path along the wall and fence, then take the gate at the top of the pasture onto an ATV track. This leads up to a flat area below An Cruachan, then dodges down a little, heading SW to a grassy shelf. This flat shelf leads below An Cruachan, after which the ATV track finishes, but the shelf continues on the same level below Healaval Beag leading neatly to the Bealach Bharcasaig, from where it's an easy stroll to the top. | Gill | 02/10/2019 |
After Mhor and Bheag. Descended to Cnoc na Pairce then some minor forest bashing to house at head of Loch Bharcasaig. Total 16.3k. A grand circuit. | NormanW | 07/06/2019 |
An object lesson in how to survive an obstacle course. Read this log to learn which way NOT to go. A crude diagram on the barn wall at Orbost Farm implies a path starts near the road bend at NG 256444 - but I could see no track there. So, planned to ascend NE ridge but saw sign 'Orbost Estate. Public FP to MacLeod's Tables' at NG253424 and fell for what seems to be someone's idea of a bad joke - took 2 hours of obstacle tackling to reach the Bealach Bharcasaig. There's a gate there to cross the BWF, but it's in the middle of the bog. On descent of the NE ridge, the deer fence was constructed overhanging making it impossible to scale at its strongest point. The last 300m through the forest to the track continued the obstacle theme, but nothing like as bad as the 'Public FP' joke route. | Isbjorn | 20/01/2019 |
From Healabhal Bheag, continued south, return via path from MacLeod's Maidens. | clashcityrocker | 17/07/2018 |
4 of 4: From Healabhal Bheag. With David. | ChrisR | 12/05/2018 |
From Healabhal Mhor, down nice ridge to fence, then up easy slopes. Down via Cnoc na Pairce. Trees near track on north have been felled a year or two earlier, makes less daunting escape. Hot sunny day | N.Morters | 28/05/2017 |
seventh and finally a Marilyn summit. Head from here SW down to the bothy with thoughts of spending the night despite not having brought sleeping bag and mat. Hope there may be something there to sleep on. Meet Stella King from Hebdon Bridge there. Good chat and company and brews me up a cuppa. | vegibagger | 26/05/2017 |
Clockwise and cloudless round of 3 marilyns and a tump from Orbost. A very rough track leads up to about 200m on the south side of the east ridge of the South Table. | Topographer57 | 08/05/2017 |
Circular walk over the 3 from bend in road and setting off across moors via old track. Frozen ground on the whole and a beautiful sunny day. | jenx | 12/02/2016 |
Anti-clockwise round of the three Macleods Marilyns from road 1km up from Orbost w Jenx. Good frozen ground all way to the Mhor. Fun continuation to the Beag then steep descent and rise to Beinn Bhac Ghlais. Down ridge and felled woods to track and 2miles to car. | nordicstar | 12/02/2016 |

from H Bheag. Down on upward path, by rocks to steep grassy slopes to right to Bealach Bharcassaig with hardly any hags. Steady plod up for 500' on tussock to top at 12.15. Substantial cairn built with sturdy stones. Horrendous return to road over deer fence and through forest and fallen brash. | arranc | 14/05/2008 |
