Bit off the beaten track. Followed the track near the power lines but came back near the farm. Bit boggy underfoot in a few places but it had been raining for 5 days :) . Really really enjoyed this.Deego22/09/2023
From ferry, along road going south passed cottages and on bend before single house, take right over gate and followed path up the hill and onto ridge and to summit and trig.Superb views. 55 mins. Carried on along ridge and followed sheep tracks and eventually arrived at farm and delightful farm shop. Down road to ferry. Sorry I hadn't gone to cafe.Coinneach25/05/2023
Up past the farmshop to the highpoint of the road and then along the spine of the island.Dropped down from point 180 to an excellent path down by the power lines and out to a point a few minutes along the road from the tearoom.Best hill in ages.800th Marilyn.ARM12/05/2023
With Lesley. Traversed north to south then explored coastline from castle westwards to Cnoc Nam Faire. Superb clarity, views to Colonsay etc.Nick Canute25/04/2023

From passenger ferry, south to NM82312803. Turn right up hill on track. Keep right of the farm through field to gateway at NM82162784. Follow track and quad route to spring NM81762804, then to col NM81612816. From here turn sharp left up a small reentrant to avoid the bog at the col. After that there are various routes, with some evidence of a quad track, to reach the summit. Fine view point.geralddavison24/03/2023
Detour to the highpoint of Kerrera on a circuit of the Southern end of the island. Another great viewpoint. On own.MorecambeMonkey21/09/2022
From the south. Horrendous bracken.thekirkie pirate11/09/2022
Followed faint path off main track N after gate before Upper Gylen, handrailing power line to col; then NE onto ridge to trig. Great 360 views.richard6928/05/2022
From the ferry, took the South path to near Upper Gylan, then off right up the grassy slopes folowing various sheep tracks to the summit. Off down the ridge via an ATV track to the Castle. Around the bay to pick up the track to Ardmore then path back past Barnabuck, Balliemore and the ferry. 8 miles fairly easy walking. Plenty ferries, he did double runs as there were more than 12 queuing for each ferry.JulieB04/05/2022
From ferry, along coastal track to high point just past The Little Horse Shoe Bay. Up obvious path that leaves track at oblique angle. Over new fence, no barbed wire. Countoured left to gentler slopes then grassy ramp northwards towards summit. KeithByTheC04/05/2022
Walked SW on track from ferry, till second bench (Uncle Paul's) where crossed fence, went up a minor gully then headed straightish for high point. Returned south to South Gylen area, then castle and cafe visit.willyross21/04/2022

Turned off track at Gleann na Curra, then mostly ATV tracks and sheep paths to the top. A nice wild approach. Back down the ridge to pick up track down towards the farm.Iloveducks22/06/2021
From the ferry, then on to Gylen Park, Gylen Castle, (excellent) tearoom, Ardmore and back to ferry via Barnabuck.Winterfloodian31/05/2021

An easy walk from the jetty. Up the track past Balliemore to the high point, then followed the W side of the new fence, over a low BWF, then a second BWF up onto Creag Ban, over a third BWF, then animal tracks avoid the heather around pt 175. Steep down to a very wet dip, fourth BWF, then to the summit following the driest ATV track to begin. ATV track to bealach with power lines then down into Gleann Beag to extend the walk a bit with good grassy animal path above the W side of stream. Over wall and bump, then steep descent to Lower Gylen and track to pier. This route is fine when bracken is dead, would be tough in summer. All BWF are low and easy to step overGill06/11/2020
Across on Ferry with C. Along track until house then up on ATV tracks virtually all the way to the top. low cloud day on the mainland. down ridge towards tea house on route to Con an Faire.PeterD23/05/2019

Walked south from ferry to bench beside track at little horseshoe bay. Used gate to access woody gulley behind the bench and open slopes above. Returned to bench and then on to Gylen Castle that is a wonderful location. A fine sunny day 18 degrees C!mindlessflogger25/02/2019
Morning ferry, cold crisp and snowy. Up track and along the heathery ridge. Stunning views. 1/3N.Morters02/02/2019

After ferry landing, went for high ground asap (bracken now getting established). Ups & downs - steep ground to SW. Nice little hill with excellent summit views (the fairyland Ben Cruachan looking especially fine).ger25/05/2018
£4.65 return on the ferry. A round of all the tumps came out at 12.3 miles including a visit to the tea rooms. First hill of 5.jonglew18/05/2018
Work Darren Giddins and merry another Marilyn bagger on summit David Stallard who's got about 975 under his belt, not far off HOFvegibagger11/05/2018
2nd tump of 8 today with Charles Everett, 1st was Druim Mor on the mainland. Ferryman warned us that we might not get back over later as Force 8 winds forecast. Steep grassy/bracken covered slope then over a fence down and then easy track veering off for the final climb. Charles met another Marilyn bagger at the top. After the nattering we descended to the track via one fence leading us to the Gylen Tea house; one of the most exquisite tea rooms i have encountered-drinks and lemon cake were compulsory. Next, the Sw top, Cnoc na Faire.Dazingdale11/05/2018
Second visit, crossed while doing the island's TumpsColin Crawford12/03/2018
Tracks to west side follow teapots. Then easy walk up to point 175 and then to summit. Good views despite cloud level very low . Came off south on ATV track to join road 200m from café.garyhoney26/07/2017
From the ferry took the track that heads SW along the Sound of Kerrera, until a gate at around NM818275. From there a reasonably straight line to us steeply up to the summit. Then NEish to Balliemore to pick up track back to ferry. Recorded route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.com/2017/05/carn-breugach-isle-of-kerrera.htmlGayle08/05/2017

First of four tops on clockwise round of south Kerrera. Road from ferry to gate at 819288, then to Creag Bhàn and up north ridge, sometimes on east side of crest, to summit. Down west then south-west by Gleann Mòr to road west of Lower Gylen, thence south-west to visit Eilean Orasaig.mainnirnamfiadh12/06/2015
Walked road across island before heading across country over mixed grass and heath. Discovered a good farm track when on the top to use for the descent!Buteobuteo11/06/2015
With Jenx at Marhofn 2015. Day ferry across just after 10am, headed down track to south and cut steeply up hillsdie at first proper gate after the farms. Nice going if steep, through crags direct to gorgeous summit and views on a decent weather day. Back down north ridges and circuit of island, don't miss the lovely tea shop farm near castle. Completed clockwise tour of island in 3 hours plus tea shop and Marilyn/trig.nordicstar08/06/2015
Climbed with MT in appalling weather, after a rough crossing. The rain felt like needles and the wind was so strong on the summit it was difficult to stand still. We took the track past Balliemore and made more directly for the hill from near the high point of the track.Sprog06/06/2015
Took ferry over (£4.50 return) to jetty at NM 83020 28646. Followed track west into hills past Balliemore Farm, forking left to take track to Barnabuck. Left it near its highest point to skirt south below crags, taking a heathery rake up to Pt. 175m. Then dropped down to marshy area, and followed boggy ATV track to minor bealach just south of the summit. A short climb brought us to it. Descended east by this ATV track, picking up another track north to Balliemore Farm and thence back to jetty. NOTE: no ferry between 12:30 and 14:00. Otherwise generally every 30 minutes, if passengers are waiting. With AT on a wild, wet and windy day.Man of Kernow106/06/2015
Walked from Oban to foot ferry then along coast track forking to the right of farm along path/track, then up through head high bracken.clivevilla03/09/2014
Five year old son's first marilyn. Plenty of head high bracken for him.campagvelocet24/10/2013

Three TuMPs in under two hours from the ferry on a damp morning with Jim Bloomer.Dugswell212/05/2013
Enjoyable walk. Took right fork in track from ferry until it reached highest point on track and then followed a disjointed ridge to summit. Great views. Way back dropped east to coastal road.Martin R20/03/2012
Half a day spent on Kerrera in great weather whilst staying at Oban. Gylen Castle to the southwest is well worth a visit too if you have the time.Alex C18/03/2012
