Solo trip. Similar route to ManofKernow1 except I missed out the Meall Mor masts and did the Meall Beg ridge first. There is a huge new power line a few hundred metres west of the old one shown on OS 1:25k, hence the rather industrial access track and the large new quarry at the track junction NR852742. On no account try the alternative track just to the north for the lowest 150m. It is very overgrown, steep and dangerously slippery. | Invicta14 | 26/03/2023 |
Tump 4 out of 5 on a circuit from Erimes. I headed South to gain ridge at Meall Beag then headed Sw to reach Trig pillar and top. I did a wee circuit of all the raised land in the vicinity before taking a similar route back before profiling NE then East to Meall Mor, my final objective.. | Dazingdale | 17/05/2022 |
From lay by just south of Sloc nan Fearna, back N to CRLS track starting next to Oakdean. Nice walk up the river through trees, then up into forestry. Track gets rougher after new mini-quarry. Up to the Hill walk sign (pointing the wrong way) where a decent path leads down to a red-topped post, then across to the fence junction/spring at 830747. A few yards S, you can step easily over the deer fence, then slightly up over the shoulder of Meall Beag, to cross the coire high up on good deer tracks, then a short climb to the ridge. Easy grass on the walk to the summit. Good views. Same route back until SW of Meall Mor, up (no path but not too rough) and over to rejoin track. All perfectly easy and nowhere near as rough as other hills in Kintyre. | Gill | 16/01/2022 |
Parked in a lay-by on A83 at Sloc nam Fearna (grid ref. NR 86265 73781). Took the long winding stony track up to the radar station and summit. Then continued down to the bealach, and over the 5ft deer fence without much difficulty. Then took in a rising traverse SSW around Meall Beag and up to the summit of Stob Odhar. Glorious views, taking in the Inner Hebrides and glimpses of Northern Ireland. Varied the route back by following the ridge over the minor tops, including Meall Beag, back to the bealach. Re-climbed Meall Mor, then back by outward route. Solo. 18.5km, with 830m of ascent. | Man of Kernow1 | 22/08/2021 |
Fantastic experience up here this evening in the wilds of Knapdale reaching the minor milestone number of 800 HuMPs. | Alex C | 19/08/2021 |
From forestry track ascending Meall Mor on a brilliant sunny day. A long walk for a single hill, with no path at all after leaving transmitter track, but stunning view in all directions and an excellent ridge. Approx. 4.5hrs there and back. | iangpark | 09/07/2020 |
Gorgeous sunny day up Stob Odhar and Meall Beag and Meall Mor from South Lodge. Been up a couple of times from west too on longer circuits from Ormsary to include Cnoc Bharaille and An Gobhlach | Heather TS | 31/05/2020 |
Pushed and occasionally cycled up CRLS track to tree line then due west over tussocks and occasional deer tracks and over an unstable deer fence. Returned along ridge and back up to the masts, a nicer albeit longer route bar a tussocky and haggy col that also included the deer fence. Note: others have driven up but trailhead is now defended by NUV sign and lockable gate. | Topographer57 | 27/05/2019 |
Cracking ridge around from Meall Mor after ascent of mast track. | Chris Peart | 03/07/2018 |
From the A83 to the East. Up the track on foot leading to the masts on Meall Mot. Then cross to Odhar where great views to both Arran and Jura. Back via forest edge. Total 15k but could have driven part way to halve walking distance. My final Region 19 Marilyn | NormanW | 14/05/2018 |
From the large parking area on the B8024 just east of Loch Arail. It was awkward navigating in the mist; cloud level 250m. I would not recommend this approach as it was rough and wet. | Alan Moore | 09/04/2018 |
Late afternoon run, up the mast track from the east. Then over the moorland to a shapely summit ridge. Fine hill, great views to Arran and Jura. Note the woodland is being felled along the track at time of ascent. | N.Morters | 02/02/2018 |

Parked on CRLS road just before heavy machinery working. Then easy 2 miles walking to masts. Decided to ignore invitation to take hill walk but instead kept to higher ground. Still had the deer fence to get over but then a nice ridge walk to summit in sun shine and heavy rain in equal amounts. | garyhoney | 27/07/2017 |
Parked halfway up mast road above lochan, thereafter track only suitable for a 4x4. Took direct line to summit at odd signpost saying HILLWALK. Indistinct path across saturated ground. | AndrewFinnimore | 23/06/2017 |
With Jenx using the CRLS road. Picked up Meall Mor on way plus tops along ridge to summit. Easy enough bag. | nordicstar | 17/04/2016 |
Up the mast track then across the tops. | jenx | 17/04/2016 |
Walk 'CRLS' road to tree line then W over rough grass steepening to gain summit ridge. Cold wet dreek and moderate W wind. At the possible risk of a 'telling off' the road is driveable all the way to the summit of Meall Mor. | RichardM | 01/03/2016 |
parked at 839743 rough track. | robertphillips | 06/09/2015 |
From signs to CRLS at 863740. Plenty of parking. very fine hill but very rough from road onto hill. Fine viewpoint, then I did the HuMP which is swallowed up by a windfarm. | Thearlaichdubh | 31/08/2013 |
From loch Arail to the north. Tough, trackless tussocks for miles | peebs | 20/05/2009 |
Up track to Meall Mor. Sunny, hot, early mist in valleys, good views. | iangalbraith | 06/06/2007 |
On my Mull of Kintyre to Fraserburgh walk | BLACKHILL | 06/05/2007 |
Revisit. Grass and rock summit, rainswept, reached from E across wet tussocky ground, then steep grassy climb. Forest road rough but driveable. | RHW | 21/04/2007 |
Park at side of Loch Fyne. Up into forest on a wide forest road on zig zag over stream, under pylons. Very cold. Almost to top of mast covered Meall Mhor then over dry tussock down to a wide bealach with 3 swampy streams to cross. Over 8' new deer fence with no visible stiles. On a left traverse climbing to ridge with gale force wind in face. To top at 12.05. No cairn. No view. | arranc | 24/04/2006 |
From road via forest tracks and return over Meall Mor. | Eddie | 25/05/2003 |
Date is first visit. Notes from later...fine isolated hill (no view - in cloud). Wet tussocky start then good steep grass. 2nd visit in rain. rough tk to park at 839743, follow deer tks W to summit | RHW | 28/03/2002 |
Been up here about 4 times over the last 20yrs. Always after Meall Mo'r, I know of another couple of routes I'd like to try. The highest point in the whole of Kintyre, Knapdale and a good part of Mid-Argyll, I believe. | DavieRuts | 01/01/2001 |
