As Gill and others from the highpoint of the road.Even after the winters rain the off piste section wasn`t too wet underfoot.Nice summit views.ARM02/03/2024
From obvious logging road at high point of Otter Ferry road, similar to Isbjorn's route. You can see the ATV track ahead whilst walking along the logging road; it starts between the barrier and the gate by some log stacks. The track does continue at the flattening; it veers rightwards away from the fence and is pretty good to about 980805, then heads towards pt415, so abandon it across rough stuff to the fence, join another ATV track to the gate. Off piste across the dip and up the grassy ground on the SW ridge. Nice walk along the ridge, with an interesting craggy dip before the summit. Good views and a nice walk once off the logging road (which is tedious and ugly).Gill27/05/2021
From Shellfield Farm. Parking in lay-bye on west side of A8003 just to the south.Winterfloodian20/05/2021
Good ascent from NW on ATV track as described below by lsbjorn to circa 981803.49pp13/05/2021
From forest crossroads at NR971831. OS mapping here is wrong. Forest road S forks almost immediately. Take L even though it climbs and goes E. Leads to mapped junction at NR978815, go R, past barrier then soon take unmapped L fork. Between fork and next gate, ATV track goes steeply up gravel, then vanishes on flattening; follow fence ahead and it reappears, faintly going up R fading in and out over very rough wet terrain. Vanishes below knoll at NR982804. Reappears at gate at about NR984802, from where it can be followed intermittently as it squelches along the ‘valley’ until NW of summit. Very tough going, allow twice as long as you thought.Isbjorn16/10/2020
From Otter Ferry road near 318 spot height. Track amended with tree felling operations. Most of the trees now gone, though still some extraction operations to the west of the hill. Followed the obvious stream through the last of the trees, then Moreland Heather/grass tramp to summit. Great viewpoint over Bute/Arran and to Jura/ Scarba and Mull. Hardly a cloud on a frosty day helped to firm up the underfoot ground.N.Morters15/11/2019
From Shellfield - an enjoyable hill.Chris Peart28/03/2019
From Otter Ferry road. The track towards the summit starts at 970832, not 973831 as shown on the map. Cycled to 979815 from where a sort of clearing above the north bank of the stream leads onto the open hillside. Not too bad after serial hard night frosts but may be very wet in milder conditions.Topographer5725/02/2018
great views of Kyles of Bute to SW and Inverary/Loch Fyne to Westraffemeister04/02/2018
Set of from Shellfield. Aimed for left of main crag to upper part of gully, as the birks appeared to be less dense this way. Nice looking hill top.ger05/05/2017
S/F Shellfield. NB keep to right of burn up to plateau. Steep but easy enough.AndrewFinnimore23/03/2017

Up steeply from good parking on roadside. Small hydro scheme ongoing, cross that and head for teh steep burnline to gain the bealach above, choose line carefully as the birch scrub is difficult in places. Straightforward after the bealach.nordicstar02/06/2016
Nice natural woodland, steep line up beside the burn then easy to the top.jenx02/06/2016
Parking high point Otter Ferry road. Mild, some sun, cool breeze, good views.iangalbraith10/04/2016

from layby at 002788. Just a thrash up very bracken gully to left, then plod to main summit which is another great viewpoint. Don't do when bracken is blooming. After Coraddie.Thearlaichdubh28/09/2013
Solo walk from Ormidale House. Surprisingly tough but fantastic views SW from the summit.mikejacobs23/08/2012
Revisit. Fine castellated hill, attractive ascent from bridge to SE.RHW15/04/2007

Parked in a layby on the A8003 near Shellfield. Climbed steeply via northern side of stream to trig. Good views of Bute and Arran could be had.garyhoney16/07/2000
Date is first visit. Notes from later...decent heathery summit, via fairly open birkwood. shellfield 003798 (OS63), beeline via col to summit RHW03/01/2000
