As others from car park in Trelawnyd, up road, FP, then PROW through wood to top. Great views today. | PeterD | 18/10/2022 |
Just under 1 mile circular from Trelawnyd car park then up road to ROW and permissive ROW to summit. Very easy ascent of only 100m. A nice gop on top! Descended on path not on OS map to ROW south of summit and back into the village. High cloud. Earlier that day we bagged Mynydd Y Cwm and afterwards we bagged Y Foel. | DanTrig | 11/06/2022 |
Easy walk to this Huw. | Adrian | 31/05/2022 |

This hill is very impressive- a huge tumulus on top of a natural limestone outcrop, which is apparently the second largest neolithic mound in Britain after Silbury Hill. There is a permissive path to the east through pines-now cleared of many storm felled trees. Great view point. | Denise | 11/04/2022 |
From E on the well maintained permissive path. Quite a stunning cairn/mound, there can't have been a lot in the way of entertainment in these parts in Neolithic times. The cave to the S is also worth a visit. | RichardM | 10/04/2022 |
From small car park in Trelawnyd at SJ 0907 7982, up road & then N. & W. along RoW & permissive path to the magnificent summit tumulus. Good view of the high tops of Snowdonia. Continued to Bryn-yr-odyn. | gerrybowes | 08/04/2022 |
From car park on 'High Street' in Trelawnyd. Up and back on permissive path from the east side. | KeithByTheC | 04/03/2022 |

Parked on roadside on Llanasa road above Trelanwyd. Pleasant stroll through woods to the breathtaking tumulus. Stunning views on a hot and hazy day yet nobody about. | Jake994 | 08/04/2017 |
From the village car park on High Street, Trelawnyd. We did some caving in the limestone caves underneath the summit so take a head torch. Views from the massive cairn were fantastic and we spotted the pagan shrine in the woods too. Wind at the top was really strong. With Mart & Daisy. | John Eley | 26/02/2017 |
St Elmo's Summer House and Gop Hill from Gwaenysgor. Fantastic sea views on a mild spring like day. | Lazylizzie | 05/02/2017 |
Me and Alf. From the Clwydian Way follow the very well worn track. | jrj | 25/01/2017 |
As per maktengrove - amazing steep sided conical tumulus appears as you break out of wood on nice path from east not marked on map. Went on to Bryn yr odyn . | Mark Sims | 23/01/2017 |
I really liked this hill. A walk through the woods not expecting much from a T2 but it is a big moound with great views in all directions. Apparently it is Neolithic and is the second largest man-made mound in Britain (after Silbury Hill). | clivevilla | 02/01/2017 |
A pleasant tour of St Elmo's Summer House, Bryn-yr-odyn and Gop Hill (respectively) from Prestatyn Rail Station. | summitsup | 31/03/2016 |
Roadside bagging with Dugswell. | Smudge | 13/11/2015 |
Parked on minor road towards the east then used path to enter wood and gain summit with Smudge. | Dugswell2 | 13/11/2015 |
Finally done after looking at it from my home town for 20 years or so! splendid views from Wirral to Anglesey. Cave requires bending down to get in. Mound is impressive, wonder what the natural height is? | mattcymru | 13/04/2015 |
Parked in the village car park in Trelawnyd (SJ 09076 79825). Took lane north, then Clwydian Way to edge of wood. Then permissive path to the summit on the neolithic mound - second largest in Britain after Silbury Hill. Dropped down afterwards to visit the burial cave on southern flank of the hill. Walk continued on to Bryn-yr-odyn .... | Man of Kernow1 | 11/03/2014 |
Climbed after walking through Trelawnyd. I took the road to Llanasa and then the Clwydian way that goes by one of the corners, i took the permissive path to the summit. Lovely walk to the summit and the views are great towards the quarried side of Y Foel and Graig Fawr. Interestingly my gps only only recorded a height of 231 m. | Dazingdale | 26/10/2013 |
Easy walk from minor road to the east. | Alan Caine | 27/05/2013 |
First recorded visit. Great spot of massive pre historic interest | JohnIvor | 08/08/2011 |
Visited towards the end of circular walk taking in Offa's Dyke Path from Dyserth - Rhuallt then looping back to Prestatyn. The Gop is a wonder, despite the ill-treatment it's suffered. The biggest prehistoric cairn in Wales is a must visit. | thesweetcheat | 08/05/2010 |
surprisingly fine little hill, fine view, in half light. from road/fm track to W, FP on final ascent | RHW | 07/12/2002 |
