From Glenloig Bridge - the new track gives out almost immediately and then it's a damp path through a series of rides to the Allt a'Chruiteir. Steeply up through some easily avoided wind throw to the open hill and the boggy trudge to the top. On to Beinn Bhreac and Ard Bheinn (the SE slopes of this offered the only decent going of the day otherwise it's bogs, bogs, bogs). Straight down over Binnein na h-Uaimh and Creag an Fheidh over increasingly heathery, brackeny and tussocky ground - OK going downhill but it would be pretty unpleasant going up that way. Very windy and views limited (mist down to 600m so the higher Arran hills covered), even Kintyre and Ailsa Craig were only just visible.StueyB27/01/2024

From the summit of The String - a moorland plod. The ATV track is useful if you have the patience but I would not fancy this hill at all in murky weather.Chris Peart09/07/2023
High pooint on string Road. Nearish to some water thingy ? Crossed fence , followed a ditch through knee high vegetation until i found the ATV. This meanders. Have confidence. Took me across minor top….lost found….lost it again…..A spell of v dry weather …VerySlowPlodder05/06/2023
From the weather station, near point 234m on The String. Pathless moorland and bog all the way there and back. A bit of a contrast to the mountains further north. Solo.Dangerous Dave21/06/2022
From Glen Cloy/Glen Dubh via shooting hut and back via Muillean Gaoithe. Good walking once on the plateau, but route probably not recommended, at least in the bracken season, unless you like steep vegetation.daviemore22/09/2021
Wet and done solo in the clagg. Thought this would be a quick day trip to island but ferries got cancelled for this afternoon! Ascended from top of the String Road. Limited parking available near road high point. Boggy hill but straight forward. Interesting open bothy/hut about 600m east of summit. My 700th Scottish Marilyn.assynt_bob07/03/2020
From the forest carpark on the A841, along the forest road to Gleann Dubh. I couldn't find the marked path up Gleann Dubh so just followed the stream. It was pleasant once away from the trees. Then on to Ard Bheinn.Alan Moore11/05/2019
From car parking to NW. Marked track thru' forest (SE) very boggy and more a ride than a path. Glen Craigag is very deep and steep sided, although the trees are not too dense. I left the forest to the SE rather than cross this ravine. With B.Bhreacn and Ard Bheinn - going good between tops but many peat groughs. Returning to the forest path was difficult - had to wade stream and found climbing the vertical, mossy bank difficult but possible with carecarole engel10/05/2018
Bus to high point on String road at the roadside weather station. Low cloud and cool East wind made for a very average up and down.NormanW11/04/2018
Up from the highest point of string road. Circuit over three and hitch back to carvegibagger23/11/2017
Parking at Glenloig Bridge (rivet benchmark on the parapet). Track leads up through conifers before petering out. Rough from there. Final Arran Marilyn. Onto Beinn Breac for a round of 3 Highland Fives. Abysmally wet weather.jonglew21/11/2017
A much better walk than Hillbagging entries suggest. The usual route, but it can be made quite easy by following an ATV track under the power lines, then right up to a gate in the fence. Rough stuff up to Cnoc Dubh, then bits of ATV track, which peter out at intervals, so otherwise keeping to the highest ground to avoid the worst of peat hags and heather. A strange peat covered shooting hut at the col before the summit. All very reminiscent of Bleaklow but with rather better views.Gill19/11/2017
Nice chilled out pace to today's hills with Gill after all the fun and excitement of yesterday.Alex C19/11/2017
From top of the String. There is an ATV track all the way up onto the plateau but it is rather circuitous and indistinct in places.Crossing to the summit was hard work on the saturated ground having to choose between deep heather and mossy bog.AndrewFinnimore06/09/2017

From the top of the String at 977357. Plenty of parking. Its just under 3.5 miles and 1.75 hours return via the fence against the forest then a general heather bash to the summit. Solo.bolton15/06/2017
From the high point of the B880. Short dry heather, steep initially, fantastic views north to the four Corbetts with a very atmospheric cloudscape. Navigation would be tricky in mist without GPS, pathless and only a small pile of stones at the summit.Owen B18/05/2017
From Gleann Dubh, good path into the woods, to where it meets track. Rough path hill bound through felled trees to South side then battled with deep brush and heather to ridge on sweltering hot day. Rough heather and bog to summit but what views to the main Arran group. Down by Muileann Gaoithe thick Heather and bog. Hard work, shorter approach form the String may be better, even walking up the road if without car should be considered.N.Morters19/07/2016

Mossy heather was a bit tedious but not as bad as expected, would be a different story if ground was wet.hillsman01/06/2016
c/w route of a chruach and ard bheinn from cp at glenloig.robertphillips15/05/2016
6th hill of 8 today on a route from High Dougarie back to Brodick, climbing Beinn Lochain, Choc Choir A' Moir, Garb Thorr, Ard Bheinn, Beinn Bhreac and then countouring round to avoid losing too much height before striking across the moorland over the occasional whopper of a peat hag to the small cairn. The Wind had died down since Ard Bheinn, making it a very enjoyable walk to this summit.Dazingdale07/05/2016
Got a lift to NR977357 with the intention of traversing A-Cruach and then proceeding to Tighvein. The ascent was initially steep through deep heather, then boggy to the summit. Proceeding southwards from the summit is the largest and wobbliest tract of blanket bog I have encountered in Scotland to date - Scuba Diving gear advised. Upon reaching the Monamore Glen road I had had enough and ran back to Lamlash along the road!raffemeister01/05/2016
From high point on road. Steep climbing then soggy ground cutting across to and contouring to A'Chruach. Around then over the Breac to Ard Bheinn. Down direct to road and a hitch up the road back to car.nordicstar19/04/2016

Parked at high point on String Road then steep uphiill the across moorland to summit then across road to bag An Tunna with its trig before Chris Watson could finish A'Chruach and run me back to Castle Lodge.Dugswell218/04/2016
Walked solo from Glen Cloy via the cup and ring marked rock at Stronach Wood, through the sponge bog to the summit from Muileann Gaoithe then on to Sithein, through Fairy Glen and finishing back in Brodick. Tough going as no paths at all over very rough, boggy ground. Better views from the other two hills mentioned.Chris Mac17/10/2015
From highest point of The String, rough going with heather and peat hags. Also rain, cloud and 40mph winds.Lionel Bidwell12/05/2015

From car park at high point of String road (opposite Glenloig Farm) then via the single unplanted forest ride up coniferised Glen Craigag. Once out of the trees, a tough and steep climb initially through deep heather, but easing quite quickly. A'Chruach rounded summit is a terrific viewpoint. Carried on over Creagan Liatha, bypassing Beinn Bhreac to the north and finishing over Ard Bheinn. Good walk; A'Chruach feels surprisingly remote.milngavie_kenny08/11/2012
Mild, calm, drizzle, no views, mist and clag, gps got us there.iangalbraith19/11/2011
from top of String road in afternoon. Heather and peat hag though dry underfoot and overhead. Limited views. with M, Jniallp22/09/2011
Ascent from HP of the String road, where there are two lay-bys on south side. Climbed with NP, KM and JK. Tried to descend by Allt nan Calaman, but too steep and tree-girt. Keep to Cnoc Dubh to avoid trouble.Man of Kernow122/09/2011
Rough going despite nearly frozen bog. Started from Machrie Rd junction via Ard Bheinn & then Muileann Gaoithe slopes (deep bracken) to Glen Cloy. Direct line into/out of Gleann Dubh is not advisable I'm told.Smudge26/11/2010

From the top of the String Road during a New Year week with Martin66, JC, Shaky & the Hunts. Very windy at the summit & a bit of a snow plod but worth it for the view on a wild day.NotReallyABagger30/12/2009
From top of The String at parking spot. Miserable ascent over Cnoc Dubh, long wet grass, peat hags, in mist. Glad of GPS to find very small cairn at top.Aye Jimmy26/07/2009
Straightforward ascent from layby at top of The String. Dusting of snow, panorama of higher hills to north.agentmancuso07/04/2008
Top of the String. Through gate in electric fence, over rough grass to path through 2' high heather to dome of hill. To left over tiring heather and hags. Rainbow on other side of glen. Top at 10.20.arranc23/09/2003
