Straight up and down from the small car park near Tanzie.Excellent path all the way.OS bolt near the summit for those interested. | ARM | 17/02/2024 |
Fell run from the carpark, up the land rover track, up a very muddy boggy shortcut to rejoin the track (avoid if not prepared for wet feet) and rejoin track. Right turn to summit. Extremely windy on top but sheltered from wind as soon as off the top. | w1ght | 28/10/2023 |
From minor road to south of hill. Parked at start of track at 241m spot height. Good path all the way to the summit. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 27/10/2023 |
From southerly direction up forest track from 241m spot height. Trigpillar and block at summit. | cjo | 29/09/2023 |

From forest car park following the track round then up through the trees to join the track between the mast and the summit. Just beyound bealach the track splits. Take the old track on left which goes through some woodland and then up onto open hillside to top. Returned the same way. | curlebd | 08/05/2023 |
From NJ 3132 4649. | summitsup | 28/04/2023 |
From parking area at track entrance to S. Path starts at NE corner of parking area.Heading N through forest to open moorland. Good views from summit plateau. With Lisa and Daniel. | CJM | 22/01/2023 |
2/2 Knock More from the car park to the South East then wind up through the trees to pop out close to summit of Ben Aigan, and took a short cut down from East of the summit, at track bend to short cut down to the loop in the forest below. Couple of hours and very nice. | nickywood1 | 11/09/2022 |
Up forest track to mast. West from mast along track. Just beyound bealach the track splits. New track not shown on most maps. Take the old track on left wheich goes through some woodland and then up onto open hillside to top. On way back took footpath through firebreak in wood that heads downhill from the bealach. This saves going back up the track to the mast. Shaves about a mile or so off on way back. | Jossker | 21/08/2022 |
Parked just inside track entrance NJ 3131 4650. Path to hill just behind parking space - east into bushes, soon turning north | carole engel | 16/05/2022 |
12km loop from Ben Aigan car park, forestry tracks almost all of the way, although took a short cut back down as was taking a long time meandering around the place adn we had already done a 17km kayak race on the spey. both hills in just over 2 hrs. | Nicky C | 08/05/2022 |
After Knock More from the car park to the south. | JasonStark | 26/02/2022 |
Starting near Balnacoul walked with Kyle (age 4) straight up path to summit. | 187lenny | 02/01/2022 |
From forest track end W of Tanzie at NJ313464, up narrow foot track to N (not the forest road) which widens into a broad path up to the forest edge (crossing a forest road at NJ311471), then directly up to summit and then Trig point, descending the same way (1h10m) | kdbennett | 28/12/2021 |
No problems with fallen trees but track very icy higher up. Started from cycle trails car park, easy walk and enjoyable. Added on Knock More, tracks to both summits. | nicolajane | 06/12/2021 |
From forestry parking area along track, up muddy firebreak junction of logging Road and older track which takes you to the summit. Low cloud covering the summit. | the pigguy | 05/10/2021 |
This is a significant hill between the Laich of Moray and Ben Rinnes. From parking area to NE via Knock More. Descended via the beallach between them. Couldn't find a satisfactory route as you're either going too horizontally on the forest track or thrashing more vertically through rough clearings. | sclater | 01/03/2021 |
Came up here during the first lockdown and have previously cycled all over it. This was much harder... thick drifts of soft snow or tracks covered in thick sheet ice. Parked in car park marked on OS map as just off A96. | sarahk | 20/02/2021 |
From small car park by gate at entrance to forest road, 313464. Ignore main track heading west, and take narrow path to the east which turns north, becomes wider and heads directly the summit. | Winterfloodian | 21/08/2020 |
Good parking at Pt.145 where the Speyside Way intersects with the Arndilly road. Followed the marked tracks until a much narrower path gave a good south easterly ascent to Ben Aigan, firstly through plantation, over a newly laid forestry track and onto open moorland. The path NE to Knock More still exists, so bagged that too, retuning via aforementioned new forestry track. | summitter | 03/08/2020 |
Parked just south west of Tangie by a new forestry track not marked on the 2016 l/r 28 map. Take the path by the parking area on right all the way to the top. Very easy ascent and fine views | Simon Winton | 06/01/2020 |
With Mike. From South. Followed forestry track for easy ascent then back on footpath. | gettingonabit | 12/04/2019 |
MC JC O. From Ben Aigan forest car park to the SE. Simple walk up forestry track. V expansive views on top. Seems a world away from C 19! | Martin66 | 18/03/2019 |
From Balnacoul (NJ313454), at forest gate. Forest track heads W, climbing only slightly, then a branch R offers more promise, but heads further W gaining little height; as despondency sets in it bends R and heads NE again gaining height very slowly until it levels off for a while, then it intersects a much steeper path running N-S. Followed this, gaining height more effectively, to open ground and on to the summit. Followed the N-S track all the way down to find it ended back at the forest gate, as a faint path, where it had been obscured by parked cars. | Isbjorn | 30/12/2018 |
Dry and cloudy walk but easy enough to bag the summit, the trig plus the Ben Aigan Auxiliary Block. | Dugswell2 | 11/06/2018 |
Track from Tanzie | trimarc2 | 11/05/2018 |
Parked where the Speyside Way leaves the narrow road and goes into the forest on the east or Rothes side. Followed tracks to summit. Great views. Bagging the trig and nearby bolt. | BigJ | 18/04/2018 |
Dawn run..as Gill. Followed newishforest track then old tracks to summit (more like path). Returned by old track all the way to car. Misty summit
Note for those who follow the newer track takes a long zigzag. At parking look for small path heading into trees (back right) the original track take more direct route is hidden from view. You should see a wooden structure over the track, go up it leads to the turning terminus of the new track then onto summit, less track, nicer tree route. | N.Morters | 13/04/2018 |

From Speyside Way. 1st of 7 today, on a lovely sunny day: Ben Aidan, Knockan, Meikle Balloch, Knock Hill, Fourman Hill, Hill of Tillymorgan, Hill of Foudland. | PGCE | 20/02/2018 |
Parked at the carpark at Tanzie and then took the same route as Gill previously. Great views. I also had the company of a border collie which appeared ownerless on the summit and led me all the way back to the carpark before disappearing into a nearby farmhouse. | Peterb | 17/02/2018 |
Last hill of the day, starting just before sunset, but it had to be done, I'd been seeing it from other hills all day. From the very icy car park near Tanzie. Just follow the logging road always taking the uphill branches to a large turning area, and you will see a smaller peaty path heading up through the trees. This leads out onto the hill, and continues to the top, enlivened by snow and ice all the way and even a small cornice (how exciting...). Lovely views from the top in the twilight. | Gill | 30/12/2017 |
With Mora. From parking at nj333492 (no road signs) dont miss fire break at nj323488. | BLACKHILL | 19/04/2017 |
From large layby on A95 (NJ 31156 45438), taking track to Dowalls, road to Balnacoul (where we could have parked, even in a large vehicle) and old grassy tracks from there. Route and write-up at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/ben-aigan-and-knockan.html | Gayle | 02/03/2017 |
Start at forest car park GR 290483. Ben Aighan FC sign at car park. Headed NE on forest track until GR300492 when left track on path to summit. Small cairn marks start of path and is easy to miss. Good path traverses the hill and approaches summit from N side. Excellent 360 views from top. | LesH | 26/02/2017 |
3 of 3: From Knock More. | ChrisR | 20/01/2017 |

Park at Forestry Commission carpark. Straightforward. Boggy on the path between FC tracks. Only pony trekkers seen. Buzzard observed 3 times in felled areas where native species starting to grow. Good views but hazy on the coast. | Calgary1 | 20/10/2015 |
carpark south near tanzie at gate good path through woods to the top. | robertphillips | 18/05/2015 |
First walk of the year due to health issues and I wanted to do this one due foot problems on the last walk up the little Ben. Walked up from Boat o Brig on a beautiful day and after going through the forest had a nice wee grunt onto the top moor , great views to the cairngorms , Ben wyvis and the Caithness hills | torkm | 05/04/2015 |
Parked at car park at bridge in the village and walked along the E bank/Speyside Way and then forest tracks to summit. Descended via tracks more directly due S on return. | benalder284 | 01/03/2015 |
