Parked in the car park by the road to the school. In the signposted entrance from Craigendarroch Walk.Followed the black hillpath signs in an anticlockwise direction. Good views from the summit. 2.1 miles, 1.5mils on the hillpath circuit. | JulieB | 02/10/2023 |
Fourth ascent, one not recorded | coldfeet7 | 30/06/2023 |
From Ballater up waymarked trail on Craigendarroch to a track heading N to the east of Balmenach. Beyond Tom Garchory there is a good track not on the map roughly following the old mapped fence line to the top of Morven. Met the keeper of the visitors book on the top before a direct descent SSE towards Roar Moss for the track S through the woods to the Deeside Way and return to Ballater. Cold, windy but clear with good views from Morven. With Gillian. | richard69 | 19/04/2023 |
Nice evening stroll with orientering map. | davechaffey | 10/01/2023 |
Signposted circular clockwise route from Craigendarroch Walk. A beautiful winter day with snow-covered trees and paths. A real Winter Wonderland. Had a couple of pints in The Balmoral on the way back to the hostel. With Mntainman. | Dangerous Dave | 14/12/2022 |
To pay our respects to the Queen who has died this last week, felt more fitting to climb here and look over to the Lochnagar estate area than go down to London. Beautiful wee hill. Balmoral flowers very affecting to see too. RIP Your Majesty. | nickywood1 | 15/09/2022 |
From car park by church in centre of town. Sunny, pleasant walk by marked track. | Rounsfell | 08/08/2022 |
Lovely wee hill. From Ballater (Craigendarroch Walk) following the arrow markers. | Fife Walking | 04/08/2022 |
One of the best little hills I've done for years. Loved the way the path skirts crags and bolder fields. The top has great views, but not in 10 years time when the trees are grown. Started at sign posted entrance at Craigendarroch Walk, 30m from main Braemar road. Followed black arrows to top and over to descend the other side. All sign posted. | Jhimmy | 10/07/2022 |
Exploring the area on the first day of a week in Ballater. | rhalstead | 19/06/2022 |
From Ballater, using the summit loop path clockwise. First through beautiful oak woods, then birch, pine and bilberry higher up. Even a seat by the summit marker to admire the view of Lochnagar. Continued down on a steep rugged path to join the hill circular path. With BC and DB. 4.2km, with 200m of ascent. | Man of Kernow1 | 25/05/2022 |
Climbed via steep path through woods adjacent to Craigendarroch resort. Path becoming rocky near summit. Huge cairn found just below actual summit where there is a toposcope and bench. Views of Lochnagar obscured by low cloud and descended quickly when we heard thunder in distance. | southern_rambler | 23/05/2022 |

A beautifully sunny late afternoon - finding a lovely path pretty much straight up from the Hilton Grand Vacations Hotel spa with its 99 high end timeshare chalets blended well into the woods. Seems like an oversupply looking at the web of folk trying to sell-on their weeks (£1000 -£5000 week sleeping 6-8) .
Craigendarroch is the 'Ayres Rock' of Ballater - a popular climb and viewpoint -cloaked in attractive oak woodlands, scots pine and birch.Very steep and a virtually equal drop all around -a result of glaciation with the cleft of the Pass of Ballater to the north being natural fault line carved out by the ice-and leaving a superb low level granite cliff for climbers - I climbed The Great Flake Route (VS4b)when I was last here 28 years ago in 1991 between summer rain showers. A brief stop in smart Ballater today with its attractive central green -no sign of the flooding havoc of the Dee during Storm Frank in 2005 which buckled the footbridge and swept holiday caravans away. | Chris Pearson | 04/02/2020 |
Quick late afternoon wander up here whilst Rob went to retrieve the correct pair of wellies. | Alex C | 28/12/2019 |

An incongruous start from a new-ish housing estate at NO366961. A barely legible wooden board sign refers to yellow and blue waymarkers. But all the waymarkers are in fact black and, at every junction with a post, ALL directions are 'circular route', so they're a fat lot of use. I went round clockwise and took each uphill choice - if you find yourself on a rocky path through scrubby woodland, with ochre arrows painted on occasional rocks, you'll be OK as it goes to the top. From the viewpoint indicator I took the path opposite to the direction of the bench seat and this took me back down to the housing estate, to emerge 300m NW of my start point. Near the bottom, a forlorn old sign, perhaps once at eye level, but now nailed 4 metres up a tree trunk, points back the way and says 'to top and around' - which might be useful to look for if you go anti-clockwise, but then you may struggle to find the start as some wag has removed all signs of where this path starts up from the housing estat | Isbjorn | 28/05/2019 |

During a windy week in Tomintoul. After dropping Smithy at Inverey for attempt #2 of the week on Carn Bhac, moped around in Braemar resting the ankle I'd damaged two days earlier on Sgor Mor before noticing this small hill... Off to Ballater & parked in Craigendarroch Walk just before the first bend. On bend is a waymarker: through gate & straight up path winding around to the summit. View somewhat obscured by trees. Continued N then E following waymarked path coming back out on to road about 200m E of starting point. Ankle feeling good, so quick look on Hill Bagging turned up Geallaig Hill... | NotReallyABagger | 14/09/2018 |
A great short walk from Craigendarroch Walk in Ballater, starting at the way marker. Through the gate then straight up the south side, following whichever of the paths goes up most directly. Nice trees, nice views from the top. Went down the way marked path on the north side to give a circuit, recommended for fine views of the crags. | Gill | 10/09/2018 |
Walked up from Ballater, following Walkhighlands route. Brilliant little hill with a beautiful climb (surrounded by heather, trees and rocks). If reading this and considering it, give the hill a go. | IainHillHunter | 04/09/2018 |
