With Tony W. Walked up from layby on A685 (gate just south onto fell via Grayrigg Pike and Forest Went on to Whinfell and back round via Borrowdale - nice 10 K circuit.HardenC09/03/2024
Easy walk up track to repeater station from Borrowdale CP. Then along ridge and an easy pull up to the summit with its peculiar cairn. Fellranger bagging with brother Tony - he lost a pole and I lost my spectacles. :-((chriswatson04/03/2024
An easy walk on good paths from the lane south of Tebay up to the repeater station, then out and back to Whinfell Beacon and Grayrigg Forest. Overcast with some showery rain but not too unpleasant. Only Winterscleugh left!BURGESS12/07/2023

From Hucks Bridge over Ashstead Fell, Mabbin Crag, Whinfell Beacon and Greyrigg Forest, back along Borrowdale.Clive G31/08/2022
Did Grayrigg and then back to the repeater station. Whinfell was a lot easier to climb than Grayrigg as the path was easy to follow.johnjennison18/06/2022
From Tarnside along the radio station road and a grassy trod leading over the wall to Grayrigg Forest, then back to another grassy track leading through two gates onto Whinfell Beacon. Easy walking and excellent views.Nick Down130/04/2022
From A6 Layby for a round of Whinash, Winterscleugh, Whinfell Beacon, Castle Fell, Mabbin Crag and Ashstead Fell.rhalstead23/03/2022
We cheated and drove to the radio beacon the walked from there. My defence is that I wanted to check it out for a disabled friend who would not be able to walk up here. We ignored the authorised vehicles only sign at Tarnside Farm and kept our fingers crossed.RowanP19/12/2021
Staying in Keswick for the weekend so stopped off to get a couple of fells in after the long drive up the M6. Stunning in the snow!Gerry the Ranger27/11/2021
A 2nd visit with L. Calm and sunny 5hr walk from A6 layby after my 13 day virus lay up. Linked grassy S ridge tops then back along the beautiful Borrowdale -with the farm and meadows being a touch of paradise -utter calm as hidden by the folds of the hills and nature -chickens and rabbits nibbling the grass together. Wainwright thought this was the most beautiful valley outside of Lakeland -its now in Lakeland of course and the Friends of The Lake district have bought High Borrowdale and its hay meadows to preserve its cultural and natural beauty - a fine choice.Chris Pearson20/09/2021

13.5 mile circular from A6 layby following good but boggy trail over Ashtead Fell, Mabbin Crag, Castle Fell, Whinfell Beacon, Grayrigg West Top (23m prominence) and Grayrigg. Then descending to valley and following easy grass trails across Winterscleugh, Whinash and pathless Pipers Hill back down to car. 1071m ascent. Sunny/breezy conditions with nice views. No one about.DanTrig18/05/2021

Second of the three new Fellrangers reached from the view point car park on the A685 to the East, there is parking on the lane running past Borrowdale wood which would have been closer. A Fourteen mile walk which also first took in Winterscleugh and finished with Grayrigg Forest in Five and half hours.WAYNE ROWLETT05/12/2020

From Castle Fell - on to Jeffrey's Mount via Eelman Sike and track/road. Caught a glimpse of some fells as I descended into Borrowdale. I'll bet this is a decent walk in fine weather. Surprisingly tranquil and pleasant walking down the dale and nice to be out of the Scotch mist for a bit.Wycombe Wanderer20/10/2018

Final of 4 hills on a 7 mile circular walk with Carole Engel. From layby on A6 at Huck's Bridge. Excellent paths from the A6. Followed the wall NE to NY 5860 0114 where a wade across Borrow Beck was needed before the 3 mile return walk to the car.jonglew30/11/2017
Circuit. A6 Huck's Bridge - Ashstead - Mabbin - Castle Fell - Whinfell Beacon - Low Borrowdale. Note that storm damage has closed the path north of the rver, and the replacement stepping stones (555.036) were underwater when we were there - fortunately we didn't need them !Moorponder04/07/2017

A very blowy walk up from Borrowdale - exceptional light show, early morning sun breaking through storm clouds. There appeared to be a festival down in the dale - circus tents and camper vans, dog walked informed me it is 'Pray for Change'M3WDD25/09/2016
With Jo, from car park in Borrowdale Wood: tracks to Repeater Station, then onto Whinfell Beacon, Castle Fell, Mabbin Crag and Ashstead Fell and then returning along the riverside bridleway. Weather; sunny, warm, good visibility.amblerbob17/08/2016

Having had a hard walk last weekend taking in 8 Wainwrights, I'd promised myself a weekend doing nothing, but it was far too nice for that, so out came the boots. Parked at the bottom of Borrowdale just off the A685, then up to Whinfell Beacon, Castle Fell, Mabbin Crag, Ashstead Fell, down to the A6 and returned down the valley.Chipstertrain06/09/2015
