654810/03/2015SD 48725 97313  F: Rock knoll, with slabby face next to large holly. To me the most aesthetically pleasing, but there are several other candidates all of similar height.
O: Easy access, should be fun with surveying gear! Other suggestions: SD 48640 97273 143m rock knoll, moss/lichen top. SD 48601 97284 142m rock knoll, tree; pond nearby. SD 48754 97291 141m rock knoll, dead branches.

Parking and route as JohnW. Several rocky knolls look to be of very similar height. The one dir3ctly overlooking farm is the summit.cjo14/01/2024
Gap in wall at SD 48578 97223. Interesting landscape. And that completes section 34C.Martin R03/01/2024

Roadside parking either immediately after crossing the railway to the west of Winter Lane or 200m further east along the road. Walk to the entrance track to Cragg Farm then bear left at the junction. When you come to a cottage on your right turn across the grass to the wall and follow it to the entrance into the woods. No climbing required.moorsman06/08/2022
easy walk from Staveley on a damp daytrimarc208/12/2020
Did a circuit of the hill from the corner of the main road by petrol station. Gained the actual summit via the footpath up from Cowan Head complex to the West of the Hill. Lovely crisp morningnickywood101/12/2019
Room to park by footpath sign at entrance to Cragg Farm. A pleasant summit area with numerous rocky knolls - visited them all just to be sure.JohnW27/04/2019
Climbed from Staverley via the Dales Way visited all rock outcrops as all looked a similar heightrobert11/03/2019
First hill of the year. With Anna on circular walk from Staveley. Lovely sunny day, lovely spot with good views of snowy fells.citygent11/02/2019
Parked on Winter Lane, took RoW towards Cragg Farm, diverted off into an interesting area of massive boulders, of which any one of 4 (or 5) could be the HP. Visited all of them.jonglew20/09/2018
Obvious route. Nearly didn't notice eastern knolls and wasn't sure they were higher than others 'til I stood on them. I must improve.Wycombe Wanderer04/09/2018
Cowan Head from GR: SD 48671 96888ronaldo33307/10/2017
Evening stroll from Staveley. Followed bridleway to stile at 482974 then straight up to the gap in the cross-wall. Down via bridleway to Cowan Head, and Dalesway back to Staveley.Moorponder03/04/2017
Parked on Winter Lane (SD 48671 96888) and followed the Cragg Farm access road to a gate at the bend before the farm, then short wander to the knoll. No gorse and fairly straight forward. I met a farm worker and people repairing a building on the road and passed the time of day, to be fair I glanced at the map and thought the access road was a ROW; still no one seemed to mind.DC11main26/03/2017
Park off to SW on minor road, FP on track then through gorse to summit area. interesting boulder terrain.nordicstar10/02/2017

From S: usual collection of knolls visited, 2 appear to be of equal height; big one with oak tree lower I think. Nice place.RHW18/04/2015
Lane to Cragg Farm soon forks, RH track leads to open heath with gorse bushes. Stile just past high point of wall into summit area. Numerous rocky knolls to visit, would need surveying to decide which is highest. One to the E with slabby face by holly would be my choice. Or the one next to it with dead branches everywhere. Or the one further W by tree with pond nearby. Or the one...Aye Jimmy10/03/2015
