Wide verges for parking but dodgy today due to being waterlogged. Five minute stroll up to the obvious high pointColin Crawford19/11/2023
On a strategic high point alongside the roman road between the Roman towns /forts of Penrith & Carlisle - Roman signal stations were rectangular towers of stone or wood situated within ditched, embanked, palisaded or walled enclosures. They were built by the Roman army for military observation and signalling by means of fire or smoke. They normally formed an element of a wider system of defence and signalling between military sites such as forts and camps and towns, generally as part of a chain of stations to cover long distances. The next one was on Barrock Fell. Fewer than 50 examples have been identified in England. In northern England stations were used in particular to augment the main frontier formed by Hadrian's Wall. Today no hint of remains exist. Gate access from N. Shepherd on quadbike slowed to stare at me at 8am on a drizzly grey morn - wonder if the Roman's signal smoke would have been seen on such a grey gloomy day?Chris Pearson24/10/2023
Parking in the field entrance due north of the summit. Over a gate and a short distance to the top. Didn't linger as I couldn't locate who to ask permission from. 2 minutes return.moorsman04/08/2022
Straight up from North via the gate and round the edge of the fields.nickywood104/01/2022

Field gate to N. HP is on or near a raised field boundary, arable field on W side probably marginally higher. Signal Stn is Roman so no remains expected or seen.jonglew24/05/2018
