As Denise. From layby to NNE at SD 45857 72297, down road & along diverted RoW which avoids farmyard to ladder stile on bend close to ruined tower - Over stile, took left fork & SE up well-worn path on S. side of wall to gate in wall at SD 46181 76543 - Through gate & NE along path & then a short climb N. through trees to summit close to impressive disused quarry. | gerrybowes | 29/02/2024 |
Parked by Methodist Chapel, then paths to tower.Up path described by Moorsman and eventually found gap in wall leading to summit area.Quarry looked impressive but most of it was filled with mist. | catman | 16/02/2024 |
Arnside Knott, Middlebarrow Hill, Whin Scar, Haverbrack Bank, Milnthorpe Hill | keithouk | 15/02/2024 |
Do not, under any circumstances, try and follow any rides through the forest. They no longer exist being hideously overgrown and impassable. Pass the tower and enter the trees via a gate. Almost immediately turn left and an excellent path with an occasional butterfly waymark leads up to the highest point. A weakness in the wall allows access into the woods containing the summit. No issues at all. | moorsman | 13/07/2023 |
I made a complete mess of this as I got lost in the woods coming from the south and ended up in brambles by the quarry rim a long way from the highest point. As others have said there is a good path from just south of Arnside Tower which takes you close to the top. | Alan Moore | 30/11/2022 |
From The Knott, through caravan park and left at wall to quarry edge. | Flatfield | 31/07/2022 |
Parked at pull in North of Arnside Tower. Through farmyard into woods following wall and path before navigating off path to high point. | Argentum66 | 27/02/2022 |
From Arnside Tower; then struggled and staggered through woodland and ankle snaring brambles to the top. The top is near to the lip of a quarry with quite a spectacular drop. From the top I heard voices which led me to a gate and an easy path back to the tower.
If only I had remembered the comments about the path by the wall in previous posts I would have saved myself a lot of effort | DC11main | 12/02/2022 |
Parking in lay by to N of path access to Arnside tower (impressive ruins). Footpath leaves SW corner of field into woods. From footpath you can follow an informal path SE, on south side of wall, to third ride with gate. Once N of summit, short easy thrash through open trees to corner of huge quarry (non operational) with bog drop. HP unmarked, but probably NW corner. | Denise | 02/09/2021 |
From Arnside Tower Farm, good path along SW side of wall to gate at SD4619,7655 then grassy track and up through trees to edge of deep quarry. | RichardM | 02/09/2021 |
More of a battle through the trees than I expected. Luckily just for final section | conanharrod | 08/02/2021 |

Solo from Eaves Wood NT car park. Pepperpot, Middlebarrow Hill, Arnside Tower. | ADT | 20/03/2020 |
Circular walk from Eaves Wood via Arnside Tower & Pepperpot. | citygent | 08/03/2020 |
Parked to the SE in car park SD470759. Followed various good trails in roughly NW direction to gate West side of wall at SD461765. Over gate into summit wood. Not sure of exact high point. | David Evans | 09/12/2019 |
On LDWA Group walk, headed up and crossed the Wall easily from the path to the South and then walked to edge of quarry over the limestone pavements to find the spot height area. Tricky on the pavement but not for long. | nickywood1 | 06/10/2019 |
From the caravan park- mess of cattle tracks all over the summit but think I found the spot- followed the wall path back down, which was a lot easier. | Mark Sims | 28/06/2019 |
After Arnside Knott via Arnside Tower | JohnIvor | 06/04/2019 |
Up from Eaves Wood car park. On own. | MorecambeMonkey | 26/12/2018 |
As jonglew but climbed wall. Dramatic views of the quarry. | Campbell Singer | 05/06/2018 |
Same route as jonglew | Dusty | 11/02/2018 |
With Rosie, Izzy and Yvonne from Eaves Wood cp | Longwojo | 28/01/2018 |
From same parking spot as for Arnside Knott. RoW on SW side of Arnside Tower (ruins), then unmapped path follows SW side of stone wall to a gate (SD 4610 7662), whence mapped tracks through scrub. Nice little escarpment runs along N side of the HP. | jonglew | 11/03/2017 |
From the caravan site to SW, good parking near reception, then easy lanes lead up to old quarry area just 100m from summit area, a wall to cross then to flatish spot marked as summit crowded by a few trees | nordicstar | 11/02/2017 |
From Eaves Wood car park via Pepperpot. Once through the County boundary wall access is about 150 yards on the right through easy gap in the wall. Then a short easy walk on limestone to top in thick trees a few yards short of quarry edge. With Andy Paul and Alf. | mick | 19/11/2016 |
Wow, what a horseshoe! | Wycombe Wanderer | 25/10/2016 |
From Arnside Tower. | Andrew Pearson | 04/10/2016 |
Walked from Haverbrack Bank then followed top edge (sometimes rather too closely) of huge quarry up from NE with Darren. Exciting stuff of alternating between being on the edge on 'wrong' side of wire fence or pushing through the trees on the safe side. Led directly to wooded limestone pavement plateau where we explored this lost world covering possible highpoints. Descended the way we came but finding a sketchy path through the trees. Then onwards on our 6 tump circuit to Trowbarrow. | Chris Pearson | 30/07/2016 |
As others from NT car park to SE (free). | David Gradwell | 04/02/2016 |
From NT car park to south east. | Alan Caine | 27/12/2015 |
Arnside to Silverdale via Yealand Storrs. Approach as per Bramley then descent into Eaves Wood via pedestrian gate practically due S of summit. | Smudge | 11/10/2015 |
Entered Eaves Wood from Old Waterslack Farm. Thrashed through to every perceivable higher ground. Summit area is attractively wild. | summitsup | 18/09/2015 |
From S, parked in village near Methodist Church then E a bit to path north. Gap in County Wall a bit ESE of summit. Gap in subsequent wall leads to flattish summit area, HP by an oak tree I reckoned. Subsequently found NT car park SE of summit at road jn, presumably the easiest way | RHW | 05/09/2015 |
From Arnside Tower through Caravan Park, through gap in wall to limestone pavement top | Bramley | 28/02/2015 |
From Arnside Tower | jimbloomer | 04/02/2015 |
From the NT car park South. An enormous quarry! | peebs | 22/01/2015 |
vehicle track through middlebarrow wood from Arnside Tower led to faint footpaths leading directly to the top | GordonAdshead | 05/12/2014 |

From SW, walked through extensive caravan park until f/p led out at top. Path through Eaves Wood keeping a wall to the L, through gate until a stile with tiny gate appears in wall to L. Through this, along another wall to a gap and not far away small limestone pavement. Top hereabouts. About 50m to the E is a huge drop into a quarry... | Aye Jimmy | 15/08/2014 |
Walked through farm selling christmas trees to Arnside Tower with Martin Richardson. Then walked through caravan park on footpath to wood in limestone country. You have to climb a locked gate or wall before the flattish limestone pavement and trees with nest boxes around the summit. | Dugswell2 | 08/12/2013 |
It rained despite the weather forecast to the contrary. Also a place to play the game of 'guess the top'. Shame about all the Willerbys. | Martin R | 08/12/2013 |
Followed walls from footpath above the holiday park up into the woods. The summit is heavily overgrown a bit away from the quarry edge. I think this is the only time I've wished a summit was on the edge of a quarry as it would probably improve it. | Jake994 | 07/04/2012 |
On the way to Silverdale, traversed this hill after coming down from Arnside Knott. Across limestone pavements, cave hunting, then down to the pepperpot. | DanHolme | 13/09/2005 |
