From Birkett Hill. Steeply down to Coalgill Sike. Up through gates in newly planted area & along top of Little Longrigg Scar to summit, which is over stile in a dip. Down N to wall, NE to Fell Lane & back to Kirkby Stephen on RoWs via Cote Garth. KeithByTheC23/03/2024

The Birkett Circuit (with no insult intended to any other hill listed as Birkett). Parked near quarry on B6270, FP to Birkett 1, then Ladthwaite, FP/ access land to Birkett 2, access land to Long Rigg, taking in High Out Wood on return. Approx. 6.5 miles.TK28/09/2023
With Sue and NB from B6270 nr Nateby at 784 064. Room to park on a gravel patch and footpath sign. Birkett Hill 1 then onto Ladthwaite to walk along Hartley road and ascend Birket Hill 2. Longman next after walking N off negotiating several gates at bottom. Return to road at bridge and follow S for approx 400m to find hidden style in wall and over fields to ascend High Out Wood. Return by S through field with gates and back to Ladthwaite where building works prevented us walking round base of Birkett Hill so returned the way we started. Very pleasant round of hills on a bright but cold day. 10.2km.Frank16/05/2023

From Kirkby Stephen (via Viaducts Walk) to Long Rigg, Birkett Hill:405m, High Out Wood and Birkett Hill:383m.RobB31/08/2021
Walk from Kirkby Stephen station via popular Viaducts walk and access land from minor road to north of worked quarry. On a fine day, exquisite views of Cross Fell, Blencathra, Howgills and Wild Boar - a moderately high fell well worth the trek.JOHNS31/08/2020

Sunny but cold spring day. Then onto Birkett hillcjo25/02/2018
From cattle grid at Fell House. After bridge, followed track on left. Gates into folds and through then left up the valley. At the head of the valley, through gate in stone wall. Turn left and follow wall upwards through one more gate to the summit.Moorponder17/07/2017
From Birkett Hill, via short steep rocky descent then confused gates, then path right up. Nice limestone spine.agentmancuso12/10/2015
My 1000th English 400m+ hill. Had a Mars Bar to celebrate on the summit!. Suitable parking just beyond Fell House (alt 1024ft) where the road passes over the river. A clear path leads all the way to the top, although getting through the gates after the first small quarry is a bit of a slalom!moorsman02/10/2015
Parked at end of road out of Hartley, and after climbing Birkett Hill to the south, then descended to handy gates near Fell House before Long Rigg. Returned initially the same way and then to road in field next to Fell House.Fisky Boy05/09/2015

4 Tump round, Long Rigg, Birkett Hill, Birkett Hill, High Out Wood from NY799079jimbloomer17/08/2015
Contoured from Birkett Hill (405), kept high when contouring to avoid up/down in gullies. Cairn on lower summit, then new stone stile (replaces wooden one) leads to top. Continued to High Out Wood.Aye Jimmy25/05/2015
Parked at high pt on road, just above quarry. Possible to go through gate and follow nehicle tracks. Bear off well to left. One wall to cross at a corner, then a wooden gate to an ungrazed area with small trees. Leads through to stile and way to summit. Nasty wall and nettles to cross otherwise to the South. Fine viewpoint.nordicstar19/08/2014
4 top circular walk from Kirkby Stephen bagging obscure small shapely 400ers around the headwaters of the River Eden draining down form the higher fells of Nine Standards. With Lesley,Nick,& Betty the Jack Russell who became an expert, and provided endless entertainment, climbing over difficult high stiles.Chris Pearson26/02/2012
