Quick burst from the layby, as others; east side of hedge seems higher | Colin Crawford | 08/01/2024 |
Parked in layby and up across the pasture. Went both sides of the fences and even crawled around a little between the fences to make sure. | clivevilla | 10/10/2023 |
as others from the layby | matty1971b | 28/08/2023 |
From the layby, gates gets you to both sides of the fence. | robertphillips | 24/03/2023 |
Parked in layby to E of level crossing. Initially followed footpath, then followed fenceline uphill, then traversing river cliff on grass to HP which could be either side of a wall (gate). Interesting to consider why the Romans rejected this side. | Denise | 08/03/2022 |
Large layby to park in NE of level crossing. Start W on footpath then once past first field head up pasture to hill top. Field gate at summit provides easy access to both sides of hedge. | RichardM | 08/03/2022 |
Good parking near level crossing. Both sides of summit hedge bagged. | Alan Caine | 19/02/2022 |
Initially a very open hill but soon out of sight once you pass through a gate half way up. | moorsman | 05/02/2022 |
Surrounded by the remains of all things Roman: road, camps, forts, milecastles, turrets, bridge and The Wall itself to the N of the hill where it crosses the River Irthing. The deeply incised and eroding Irthing is flowing the 'wrong way' having been diverted W by glacial till blocking its original E flow into the Tyne. Later I stopped at the deserted Birdoswald Fort (across the river from this hill)- the pride of The Romans once and now English Heritage. Impressive history maybe but as it is just now just knee high walls its the sort of school trip location all teachers dread - as the kids will get bored within 2 minutes, eat their packed lunch straight away and look for things to start throwing at each other. Possibly the Centurians acted the same way when stuck out here on patrol for months on end? | Chris Pearson | 15/12/2021 |
Followed the route from the level crossing | Andrew Simmons | 26/09/2021 |
Up from level crossing on West side of wall, then two gates half way up to cross into East field and back again. Pleasant top. | GordonAdshead | 27/08/2021 |
Easy unobstructed route from railway crossing | conanharrod | 02/05/2021 |
Parked by crossing. No need to climb wall. Take stile by crossing then diagonally uphill to gate the up to top. | Lionel Bidwell | 21/09/2020 |
From layby just NE of the level crossing. Over a stone wall and up the pasture. HP one side of hedgerow or the other, handy gate useful to check out both. | jonglew | 02/05/2019 |

From layby at LC, a careful wall climb then steep pull up to top, which lies either side of a fence | nordicstar | 06/07/2017 |
From layby close to level crossing | jimbloomer | 27/04/2017 |
As RHW. Gate a few hundred m E of P. Upto top then through gate to W of fence and down via another 3 gates to the car. | chrisbien | 27/12/2016 |

Same approach as CG, edge of wood from W more discreet as large farm opposite. Gently rounded field summit E of wall/fence. | Aye Jimmy | 15/12/2015 |
From SSE, layby just E of level crossing. My money's on the pasture just E of the fence. First of 5 early a.m. tumps in this farthest corner of Cumbria in prep for tomorrow's planned completion. | RHW | 26/09/2015 |
