From car parking by disused quarry at the end of Tower Causeway (near Sourhall) - Flower Scar Hill (Old Mine Workings) - Summit of Carr and Craggs Morr (found the OS Block) then onward - over Heald Moor (with its Highland Cattle) to the summit of Thieveley Pike (Deer Play Moor) with its OS trig pillar (and fine views) - extended to Irwell Spring (Source of the River Irwell) not the most inspiring place (but you just have to? don't you?). Returned along a similar but different route. Sunny and a walk to celebrate Gareth's birthday. | briandavies | 25/04/2020 |
Walsden to Rose Grove linear walk 2 of 5. Gradual descent from Freeholds along path then bridleway, then up the A road for a few hundred metres; followed by paths and off path walking to this top close to one of the many wind turbines hereabouts. | JOHNS | 10/08/2019 |
Parked to the SW in large lay-by SD889245. | David Evans | 22/07/2019 |

Brisk NW cold wind hints of rain shower. Gently turning windmills. | vegibagger | 24/03/2019 |
Amazingly good spot for 360 degree views of Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cheshire and even Derbyshire. Unable to count all of the hills that Ive completed that I could see because there was way over 30. | Nick Caunt | 11/02/2019 |
From point 389. Plenty of parking. Easy going up wide wind farm tracks and over moorland for final 120 mts. moorsman's account is, as usual, perfect. Sadly, the views of the Calderdale moors are interrupted by large numbers of pylons and wind turbines. Nevertheless, Calderdale and the West Riding completed. | Campbell Singer | 16/02/2018 |
...from Thieveley Pike. Mist clearing but wind turbines rather eerie drifting in and out of view.Descended to Cornholme for bus back to Todmorden. This completes my Calderdale Tumps. | IanHHill | 02/12/2017 |
From SW. Good parking. | jimbloomer | 25/09/2017 |
Roadside parking on the minor road to the east. Followed geology trail then track alongside wall to summit. | mart0797 | 11/05/2017 |
4th hill of 5 today on a route from the Rosehill House hotel in Burnley to Walsden station, via Crown Point, The Singing Ringing tree,White Hill and Thieveley Pike, continuing on Burnley Way and then a moorland traverse to a fence onto a track over another fence to the summit. Pretty indistinct but easy enough. Dropped down to the track and followed it to the main road taking the Rossendale Way then Todmorden Centenary Way upto Freeholds Top. | Dazingdale | 19/02/2017 |
An out & back short walk from the layby NW of Cornholme with grandson. Enjoyable couple of hours and good chatting with him. | joseph mitchell | 17/08/2016 |

With Evan & Alfie. | Dangerous Dave | 09/01/2016 |
With Jo, linear walk from Portsmouth along Carr Road, Tower Causeway, Flower Scar Road to Carr & Craggs Moor (a couple of boundary stones marked D (Deerplay (?)) nearby, then through the squalor of Heald Top Farm, then prow across Heald Moor to Thieveley Pike, descending to Holme Chapel. Weather; sunny, cool breeze, good visibility. | amblerbob | 15/07/2015 |
Parking available off the main road alongside the access gate to the wind turbines. Go through the gate and walk past the brick built control building. Immediately afterwards a brand new stone road leads parallel to the moor thus avoiding rough grass walking. Cut off to the summit at a convenient spot. There was a temporary exclusion zone around turbine 3 when I passed as it had caught fire and burnt out just before my visit. Path still open though. | moorsman | 11/06/2015 |
From lay-by on main road | Bramley | 10/04/2015 |
As Aye Jimmy. Information board at start of track. Tells you that Todmorden Moor is a common & a place for peaceful recreation & to look after it. So what have they done? Allowed some vandal to put up a load of wind turbines. | ngthack | 22/03/2015 |
Parked in layby on road to SW. Track, construction work going on with wind-farm. Branched off track and across rough moor. Flat summit of rough grass. Upright stone with 'D' on about 100m away. | Aye Jimmy | 21/03/2014 |
Done solo. No navigation issues but the ongoing erection of windmills has meant there are a lot more tracks that what are marked on the map. | Aimless Rambler | 25/02/2014 |
Parked in the large lay-by on the A646, near Ratten Clough Wood, SD89020 27002. Followed track up Green's Clough, then rough moorland to unmarked summit | Sprog | 30/06/2013 |
Park on the road to the south west, used track for a bit then walked across moor. | Dugswell2 | 06/02/2012 |
From SW - track -flytiping warnings | Chris Pearson | 14/08/2011 |
Visited on a walk from Accrington to Todmorden in thick mist. Very squelchy underfoot and needed to use the compass a bit due to lots of fences at the col with Thievely Pike. | Jake994 | 31/01/2011 |
