O: SW summit at SJ 96494 70126 also in heather. Fairly flattish area.

Cool misty Sunday afternoon. As David Gradwell. The gate at SJ 96808 70258 is fastened with barbed wire so access is more difficult than it used to be. SoloRoguePulsar18/02/2024
The gate access referred to in previous posts is now locked with huge amounts of barbed wire around it. Expect ripped clothing if attempting to climb. Similarly the access over the wall at SJ 96596 70345 has fallen trees making access to the wall difficult. Got as close to summit as publicly possible so it will have to do.rainonthewindows23/01/2024
From Ridgegate reservoir. Through woods on good track to Nessit Hill. Clear route to wall, but awkward climb. 2 strands of barbed wire above 5 foot wall. Easier than similar exit due east of summit on to access land. Not recommended. KeithByTheC17/12/2023

As David G. No need for crossing walls or wire.Moorponder05/07/2021

Parked in the marked parking at SJ 980 681. Walked N along the road, taking the private road (but public FP) towards Shutingsloe Farm. Just before the farm, headed steeply WNW up FP to grand summit of Shutlingloe (great views). Headed NNW down west side to forest. Then along permissive track to SJ 966 703, where I crossed wall with double BWF taking a short and quick route across non access land to High Moor summit (hardly worth the effort) and back the same way. 7.8km with 440m ascent in 2h25m. Parked at roadside by Trentabank reservoir and walked up through Macclesfield forest. Made a cut through the forest over barb wire fence and top top with my 7 year old CodyThe-Z-Man12/01/2021

Parked in large layby at SJ 9634 7115 - Up Shutlingsloe path (starts opposite W. end of layby) to wall corner at 968704 - Over wall/BW fencing, aided by a thick strainer post in corner - Up alongside wall to high point & then a short walk to the former top; from there followed a faint path to the unmarked summit. (S)gerrybowes19/11/2020
Permitted bridleway from NW to its highest point before steep descent, then faint path through young trees to deer fence. Used thick fence post to climb wall and barbed wire easily. Good view.Wycombe Wanderer25/10/2020

From Wildboarclough. After the Lord Mayor's Shuttling Show. Took the direct route back to Shuttlingsloe(not recommended) and back towards Wildboarclough.Longwojo04/01/2020
First attempted to get to hill where permissive path comes closest to the moor to the W of Nessit Hill, but way was blocked by a double BWF. Managed to find a way over wall where a muddy path led into the trees immediately to the E of the hill. On way out found gate in corner of access land to NE of hill. Rough path led to gate from curious 'moated' island to E of summit.Wheelsy30/12/2019

After Shutlingsloe this seems very much the poor relation. Nothing to recommend it today in a view depleted clag.stig_nest10/01/2018

Excellent walking area - with High Moor to south and visiting Forest Chapel SJ974721 - highly recommended around Easter when the chapel is beautifully decorated with plants and flowerscarole engel22/04/2017
Parked in car park to NE at SJ 97724 71466. Took track/paths through forest to gate at SJ 97126 70344. Turned right here on vague path following wall (on access land) to unlocked gate at SJ 96808 70258. Thin path through heather leads directly to NE top then quad-bike track to summit. Back same way, no barbed wire or any other problems.David Gradwell23/03/2017

From Shutlingsloe, climbed over high fence then followed the ridge. Superb moorland with plenty of snipe and grouse.John Eley23/12/2016
Up Shutlingsloe from Macclesfield Forest CP to the north, then over to High Moor. High Moor is beyond a wall with barbed wire on it and copious signs saying no entry and that it is not access land. It was a misty day so it seemed a good day to ignore the signs.clivevilla13/12/2016
Parked next to lake and initially followed the Shutlingsloe path. Then broke off right and cut through forest following steep mountain bike tracks. Just past viewpoint with benches found rough path alongside forest fence then over wall and across moorland to hp. Snow at top.Campbell Singer09/11/2016
A rather insignificant hill top compared to its lofty neighbour. Just outside Access Land and hardly made to feel welcome. Rough pasture. 2 summits, I considered the SW summit the highest.RichardM14/10/2016
Parked at Macclesfield Forest visitor centre car park. Followed well signed paths to Shutlingsloe, then at SJ 96809 70377 turned right on well made track to crest of hill - and headed left through faint paths on new plantation. Clambered over wall and barbed wire to both summits on obvious path. With Julie.David Evans09/10/2016

Parked alongside the reservoir (free) alt 853. Fading light, wind and heavy rain made this a foul January night.Took the main forest track to where the trees finish. Thenthe fun starts. How to reach the top? Walked uphill along another forest track to the summit ridge. Then, scaled a somewhat hairy barbed wire topped wall. Returned in pitch darkness and heavy rain, non the better for this experience; 1.94 miles, 60 minutes return.moorsman28/01/2016

En route to Shutlingsloe from Langley. Easy wall and barbed wire fence to cross from the col then up and down without any problems. I don't know how on earth the landowners managed to get this fine moorland exempt from the CROW Act...Jake99404/09/2015
Well the cloud had lifted and the rain stopped as we left the Cat and fiddle to go back to Mac so we diverted and headed for High Moor driving down to big farmhouse Oakenclough on the south side to ask permission to leave my car for 20/25 mins while we wandered up on too the hillside summit. Slightly reluctant, but permission granted.vegibagger18/05/2015

Plenty of snow, up to knees where settled on top of heather.RobertP31/01/2015
From layby N of hill at side of Trentabank Reservoir. Many tracks through Macclesfield Forest, one at SJ 96318 71154 pointing to Shutlingsloe was followed uphill past felled section until it emerged from forest and the path swung L towards Shutlingsloe. Over wall/wire into rough field to R (or use gate, not easy to see from here) and up to twin heathery summits. Two 'negative' sheep on top - totally black!Aye Jimmy11/09/2014
Odd one to get to. Came off Shutlingsloe and down towards Macclesfield Forrest. Had to climb over a wall to get to the moor. Not sure if we should have been there but there were tracks. Bagged the summit and legged it!!W111KYB08/06/2014
