Second of 3 hills on a bike ride. The misty weather helped with a furtive approach to the new summer house (high point seems to be between this and the new wall a few metres north). Approached via footpath to N. | steveb2006 | 30/11/2022 |
2 of 4 on 22 mile bike ride starting in grassmoor country park. The grounds are coming along now. Few workers still dotted around but it looks nothing like the summit photo now | The-Z-Man | 02/09/2022 |
Parked at triangle to south, up road and then FP around house. Large amount of stone and rubble form a man made HP at least 20 ft above surround, quick scramble to top, but it is difficult to work out where natural HP is or was. | PeterD | 06/12/2021 |
Parked at road junction to N, near converted chapel. ROW, to near house and saw that nobody was about. Backtracked to last gate, then crossed into summit field and kept to W side of ridge before going up to summit (level ground between summerhouse and wall). | PGCE | 26/06/2021 |
Difficult to see where the high point is. Stunning location for a house though! | Nicky C | 26/05/2021 |
Alert! Alert! The owner of the remarkable and secretive house adjacent to the summit has now acquired the summit field too. According to a local that I met on the path, the summit covered an old, underground reservoir which serviced the adjacent houses. He has now completely dug this out and the debris is scattered across the whole area. The summit has disappeared and has been replaced by a gaping chasm leaving a new top adjacent to the summerhouse. He has plans to landscape the field and enclose it within his property. Accessing the summit is currently an assault course over huge blocks of stone and rubbish with the new location under his summerhouse (If you exclude the higher piles of debris). Once work is completed the summit will be out of bounds within his property. | moorsman | 09/08/2020 |

A lovely sunny afternoon spent in the summerhouse. | Dugswell2 | 22/02/2019 |
What a glorious viewpoint on a calm sunny Xmas eve from next to the outer wall of the house's northern garden | vegibagger | 24/12/2018 |
Parked at road junction to SSW SK 35632 60476, then as Aye Jimmy. | David Evans | 13/01/2018 |
From junc minor rd and B6014. Up through a pasture, over a wall at SK 35674 60686. Some exposure to the house so stealth mode required. Accessed the upper lawn which seemed to be the HP at SK 35673 60714. With Carole Engel. | jonglew | 28/12/2017 |
Over westerly wall into garden to east side of summerhouse. Did not venture to north side due to nerves! | carole engel | 28/12/2017 |
I parked just a short way down the road towards Ogston Reservoir. I then walked back up road to imposing gates of large house. Footpath access on left then walked around right hand side of house. Through gate into rough grassy area. Turned left and then peered over wall to see summerhouse. As I arrived and walked up drive the owners came through the gates and followed me up the drive in their Range Rover. | Neil Haslewood | 24/07/2017 |
Parked at junction triangle down the hill to the west. Fp goes up a manicured driveway before going round a big house to the west. Hp close to garden wall. | Campbell Singer | 02/10/2016 |
A five-tump circuit from Tansley: Ashover Hay - Cocking Tor - Matlock Moor - Oker Hill - Masson Hill - Matlock Bath - High Tor. Didn't bother jumping over the garden wall as the summit appeared to be only a few feet away and a foot higher than outside the wall. | davidpettit84 | 26/09/2015 |
2nd hill of four today, starting from Higham, visiting Stretton Edge and then on a bearing to intercept track leading to Ogston and past the reservoir. As others, took fp next to private house and circumnavigated the house grounds (had to climb stone wall covered in vegetation to get back to South side of house. I agree that the Summerhouse is on or very near the highest point!!Idyllic location and they even have a tree house! Climbed over a fence back onto the shared drive/footpath and headed onto the minor road known as Butterley rise, taking the fp climbing over Ravensnest Tor. | Dazingdale | 30/08/2015 |
8.30am driving summer drizzle. Discovered I had forgotten my cag. Made a dash for it as not far to summit round back of house off fp Long lush wet grass soaked my trainers and socks into which dozens of tiny sharp grass seeds stuck -not really properly equipped for the conditions! | Chris Pearson | 09/08/2015 |
As Aye Jimmy. Splendid summerhouse. Looks like it should be at Chatsworth. | ngthack | 15/02/2015 |
Imposing gate of large house has f/p arrow on left, up drive and around RH side of house to gate, through this then L around back of house. There is a summerhouse with lawn over the wall, but banking on field side seems just as high. Assume that man made platform to right of summerhouse wasn't built around a natural bump... | Aye Jimmy | 30/11/2014 |
The house on the summit is well barricaded enough to survive World War Z, so a quick jog along the wall to the highest accessible point will have to be sufficient on this one. | DanHolme | 15/04/2014 |
back (NW) corner of garden of large house: pasture adjacent almost as high | RHW | 18/11/2012 |
From Ashover. | Wheelsy | 01/09/2012 |
Parked at Ashover Hay, found the top near the house then took the path down the very pleasant north ridge and looped back up via Walnut Farm. | Jake994 | 09/08/2005 |
