Cycled from Chorley via Hoghton Bottoms. Great 360 views from here.ssstevesreeves08/06/2020
Interesting hill but horrific new development to north west and plenty more promised. That said, I see it used to be an aerodrome so maybe it will be quieter now. Not sure which is worse.Wycombe Wanderer16/01/2020

Not the most inspiring walk I’ve ever done, thought I’d make this in to a longer circular walk from Mellor, but now wish I’d just done a quick up and down. Great view from the top thoughWayne Mac31/10/2018

4th hill of 7 today, on a route from Blackburn to Rishton, then an out and back from Huncoat. I climbed Revidge, Billinge Hill and Stanley Hill descending on track to cross A677, heading to the Church, following Mellor Lane, then on Abbott Brow, taking fp that leads all the way to the sealed off not so Secret Nuclear Bunker facility. This mound looks just as high as the trig but is probably a man-made addition. Fantastic 360 degree views and a local hot-spot for walks. Saw the first people out in the countryside here. Trig had a cute little figure etched out of the snow on one its sides. I continued SE on fp, on very wet land (some of which was fortunately iced over) to take track back onto Mellor lane and followed this to Higher Ramsgreave road (unaware of alternative summit but passing it nevertheless) Continuing to Wilpshire Hill....Dazingdale09/12/2017
Via Top of Ramsgreave. CP a little W of X roads. RoW to trig and back via indicator.chrisbien07/12/2017
Parked in the free car park at Mellor Village Hall, then up hill via RoW. An unexpectedly good viewpoint, especially to the Forest of Bowland. The random pits of concrete near the summit made a good seat for an early lunch. With JT.Sprog08/10/2017

Solo. From the bus stop by Windmill Pub, Mellor Brook. The topograph seems to be the highest point. Also Stanley Hill.ADT19/01/2017
A short dash up fp whilst Dad waited in the car in Mellor. A very good viewpoint incl. over the BAE Salmsbury aircraft factory where 3000 people work and 3000 bombers were made in WWII. Today parts are made for the airbus and eurofighter (which responds to pilot voice commands for non critical functions). Drove slightly slower than a Eurofighter over the spot height of the alternative summit on Top of Ramsgreave to get here. This great vantage point was also the site of a roman signalling station (using smoke) looking down to the fort at Ribchester and over the roman road heading south to Manchester.Chris Pearson02/11/2016

Mellor Moor 223 metres high, a P75 hill with a trig point plus is the site of a Roman signalling station and a now-disused Royal Observer Corps Nuclear Blast and Fallout Monitoring Station. The monitoring post was opened in July 1959, was decommissioned in October 1968 and is situated on a low mound ten yards west of a trig point overlooking BAE Samlesbury Airfield. Many people still believe that this was a nuclear shelter or an air raid shelter for the use of the local population during times of war. A millennium viewpoint pillar has been erected alongside encroaching onto the top of the post. Photo on Geograph.Dugswell223/01/2012
From large free car park in Mellor at SD 65448 30946 (not indicated on maps). Walked along road to public footpath at SD 65830 31052 then followed rough track to summit. View indicator is higher than trig but it's built on top of Underground Nuclear Monitoring Post.David Gradwell18/10/2009
