As Peter D, from pull-in on W. side of bridge - Up road & RoW, & then up over pasture to the obvious summit mound. | gerrybowes | 05/12/2023 |
By footpath from the north then a soggy stroll over the various grassy rises. Fine views to north and west | Colin Crawford | 25/11/2023 |
From NE car park on fell road as for Nicky Nook. Up alongside Baranacre reservoir which is an off stream reservoir (not blocking any stream /valley) but drawing its water by intake pipe from the moorland River Calder close by. The sturdy perimeter fell wall is the work of craftsmen, horizontally laid square cut blocks but with a cut top wedge shaped block to allow the wall to slant uphill. Less impressive was the 2015 mistake when water was drawn from here, during maintenance, which contained cryptosporidium (from animal faeces) to 750,000 consumers in Fylde - causing diarrhoea. It cost United Utilities £23 million in compensation and £450,000 in a fine and court costs all because someone forgot to do a risk assessment for using this water temporarily whilst The Garstang pump house was being repaired. The sheep I passed on this hill may have been descendants of those responsible? | Chris Pearson | 14/10/2022 |
Parked near bridge to ESE, then up road to FP. Followed uphill towards masts then veered north to HP in pasture. | PeterD | 12/05/2022 |

Scorton, nicky nook, Holme wood, Grizedale bridge, barnacre moor, scorton | Lancylass | 08/09/2020 |
Ascended by the footpath to the east, which was very wet. The flat summit though grassy was saturated, which was not easy for the sheep or the farmer. | JohnW | 15/03/2020 |
Parked on wide road to east of hill. Over fp stile and then straight up steep pasture to north of gorse and directly to several tops, some man made. Indeterminate. | Campbell Singer | 13/01/2020 |
Parked by reservoir then walked along track visiting high points towards mast compound. | cjo | 24/11/2019 |
Various grassy mounds and aerial enclosures with land generally disturbed. HP possibly at enclosure entrance? From Nicky Nook and back to Grizedale Bridge on grey day. | Denise | 22/11/2019 |

From Grizedale Bridge. First on to Holme Wood Hill, then Nicky Nook. Watched a starling murmuration here | Wayne Mac | 14/02/2019 |
Final hill of the day on circuit from Grizedale Bridge. By the aerials with good view eastwards to Bleasdale Moors. Interlocking spurs aplenty - the old geography lessons not entirely in vain! | JOHNS | 04/01/2019 |
From Grizedale Bridge on a dull, overcast afternoon-first easy saunter up Holme Wood Hill, then on to Barnacre Moor along good track beginning at side of reservoir. With Oscar. | catman | 04/01/2019 |

From Nicky Nook, descended to Grizedale and walked along the valley towards Higher Lane. Ascended to Burns Farm and Moor House, before taking right of way that goes past the summit. Returned to the car at Grizedale Bridge. With HT and JT. | Sprog | 07/10/2018 |
from bank farm easy path | colinfielding | 02/09/2018 |
Up track from road, lots of man made mounds, highest natural point seems to be on S side of compound | Bramley | 06/04/2018 |
With Jo, circular walk from Grizedale Bridge. Road and track via Calder Side, both tops, then continuing on tracks/paths past Burns Farm to Grize Dale and then permissive path through Holme Wood. Weather; generally sunny with cool breeze, good visibility. | amblerbob | 29/01/2018 |
Parked at Calder Side and walked uo FP to masts. Walked round the compound. HP seemed to be on S side (except for the man-made mounds to the East). Wet underfoot as expected. Good views from the top area. | Andrew Pearson | 22/01/2018 |
Parked opposite reservoir entrance. 25 minutes there and back. | Longwojo | 06/12/2017 |
This and Holme Wood Hill | bardolph | 06/04/2017 |
From reservoir to NE. Didn't visit new (2020) summit location | RobertP | 05/02/2017 |
From Grizedale Bridge CP. Solo. The natural highest point would seem to be on one of the flat topped areas just north of the mast enclosures. However, there currently two large piles of soil between the enclosures. The summit is the top of these! | ADT | 26/11/2016 |

Parked on surprisingly quiet lane near Bank Farm. Good weather. Good views - especially liked the carpet of trees to the south. Pondered why farmers obliterate footpath signs and why so many wind turbines don't turn in a stiff breeze. | Wycombe Wanderer | 17/07/2016 |
From parking spot opposite entrance to Grizedale Lea reservoir. Good track up to masts. | mart0797 | 29/01/2016 |
With Evan, Sail, Danu, Coel & Alfie. | Dangerous Dave | 24/01/2016 |
Easily bagged on a good path from roadside parking near the entrance to Grizedale Lea Reservoir. Summit was somewhere around the masts. I did have an interesting time with some very nosey cows not far from the top. | Neil Haslewood | 15/10/2015 |
From near Calder side. Summit seems to be near masts & not ref. given. First hill on Nicky Nook triangle. | ngthack | 19/07/2015 |
Parked on grass verge just north of Calder Side at SD 53553 48277. Good track/PROW. | David Gradwell | 24/04/2015 |
From NNE. 'F.W.B.' on valve cover at summit presumably Fylde Water Board; also tunnel shaft cover in field near parking spot badged 'F.W.B. 1922' | RHW | 21/03/2015 |
Approached as previous loggers. Summit dominated by masts. Flat area to north on banking with concrete slabs, or outside gates on south side are both contenders for high point. Various other mounds man-made? | Aye Jimmy | 07/09/2014 |
Parked at Calder Side and used the good footpath. The highest point appears to be at 53156 47508. No access issues. | JohnStoneham | 24/08/2014 |
On Thirlmere Way | nickywood1 | 13/07/2013 |
Parked at Calder Side and used the footpath from the NE to access and explore the area. Photo on Geograph. | Dugswell2 | 23/01/2012 |
Est first completion date, from N.
Also on 14/07/2020 from the W. I built a tiny cairn on the summit mound. Sadly the 2m high summit mound was bettered by an adjacent 3m high manure heap. I resisted the temptation to ascend the manure heap! | Nick Caunt | 01/02/2010 |
Up tracks and across a sodden field from Moor House, where Deana waited patiently for me in the camper as not really a parking place. | summitter | blank |
