Alighting from 575 bus in Aspull I explored Haigh hill then took footpath towards Freezeland farm veering off on footpath past Copperas house continuing into Blackrod to stand on car park edge next to church wall. Blackrod stands on an important Roman road from London to the North.Situated on high ground with a commanding view it is believed that a Roman Fort was built here. Blackrod was once a major coal mining centre with at least seven pits in the village and over a thousand miners.
