From SW, up ridge, faint path to summit cairn on plateau. various rock outcrops, generally level. Trig some distance away. Frosty, sunny, clear . Continue to Milldown.Denise 25/11/2023

Solo anti-clockwise loop from Forest Lodge car park. 6am start to try and avoid the worst of the heat. Fairly straight forward walk through the forest and easy ascent up to Hennessey's Shelter - reached Corserine summit just before 2h elapsed time. Headed across to Millfire, and then on up to Milldown (50mins after leaving the corbett summit). Hit the summit of Meikle Millyea at 9:15am, took some more photos and had a wee break before heading down. The descent and walk out took around 1h 10min. Sunny skies and a light breeze on the tops - total time was around 4h 28mins.mproudfoot14/08/2022
Parked at Forest Lodge, with Kevin Woods. Headed up Professor Heilberg Road, then once out of the trees onto Meikle Millyea, north to Milldown, Millfire and up to Corseine (which only has a trig and small cairn on top). From here we decided to include Carlins Cairn, then contour around the NE slope of Corserine to then cross the NE shoulder and drop back into the forest to trundling along Robert Watson and Bridgit Natvig Roads. 7hrs all in breezy at along the tops, but good views in every direction and my first glimpse into the Galloway Forest proper.chillyman815/07/2022
Parked at Knockmulloch, track gets a bit rough from there, along track past farm and headed up to Rig of Clenie, from there up towards Meikle lump finding a path on N side of wakll. Never saw a soul. Back the same way.colazione24/06/2022

Solo ascent of Corserine and then continued over Millfire, Milldown, Meikle Millyea. The car park was surprisingly empty (4 cars incl. me). I was passed by a walker from E Lothian on way up Corserine - he returned the same way. I met a runner/walker who was doing a big round of the local hills.langskill31/05/2021
Classic round of southern half of Rhinns of Kells. From Forrest lodge. Hardcore road now goes to edge of forest at start and finish with forest part of route marked with green arrows.sarahk02/05/2021
From parking area to E (NX 5582 8265). Took a line up over roughish ground to Meikle Lump, bypassed Meikle Millyea trig and took ridge N to Milldown and Millfire, then returned S for the trig and continued on to here. Pushed further S for Little Millyea.jonglew02/05/2021

From Green Well. Knockower, then full ridge to Meikle Millyea, including Cairnsgarroch. A super ridge walk. Sunny and very clear so great views. Descent to Clenrie was pretty rough. With B and R.jenx26/09/2020
A circuit of the southern Rhinns of Kells from Forrest Lodge: Corserine, Carlin's Cairn, Corserine again, Millfire. Milldown, Meikle Millyea true summit and summit adjacent to trig, ending with a few minor slips on the wet grass and heather of the Meikle Lump descent. The views towards the Awful Hand range and the largely unspoiled adjacent hills and lochs make this a really outstanding walk.Nick Down119/09/2020
From Forest Lodge. Corserine, Carlin's cairn, Corserine again, Nillfire, Milldown, Meikle millyea. Down over Meikle lump. Awful 3 foot high grass on descent. Both boots got a soaking.Longwojo06/09/2020
From Forest Lodge via Corserine, Carlin’s Cairn and Miifire and Milldown with A&C, back via trig then followed faint path down to forest and good return track.PeterD30/08/2020
From Forrest Lodge over Coserine and then ridge to Meikle Millyea. To descend, followed the wall over Meikle Lump. Path then moves away from wall, drops steeply down to edge of forest and start of track which is waymarked back to the car park.benalder28422/03/2020

Continuation to Little Millyea but stopped for lunch near sheltered rocks.Dazingdale21/04/2019
Parked in the car park at the end of the track to Burnhead. Followed good forest tracks to exit the forest at 534838. Obvious path up onto Meikle Lump, eventually following the wall towards Meikle Millyea. Rough, boggy ground descending towards the beallach, then better walking to Milldown and Millfire. Cut across between the lochans and Meikle Lump on the way back, to avoid re-ascent. Lovely day and good views.LizH19/04/2019
Forrest Estate Car Park at 553862 & up Corserine, Millfire & Milldown. From Milldown, followed a decent path past the picturesque Lochans of Auchniebut & up to the summit rock; visited the xDT en route. To descend, went back to the wall junction & down path on N. side of wall over Meikle Lump. At 531834, path veers off to left away from wall & drops steeply down to edge of forest & start of track at 534838. Waymarked track back to car park. (S)gerrybowes26/02/2019

From Forrest Lodge by tracks and excellent path to Corserine then out and back to Carlin's Cairn. Steady walk mainly on atv tracks over Millfire and Milldown to Meikle Millyea. Followed wall down but took path before turn (one interesting bit) down to new track at forest edge and back to car park.SS05/08/2018
Meikle Millyea and nearby tops from E (where Southern Upland Way joins the minor road). Ascent by Rig of Clenrie and Meikle Lump, to Meikle Millyea trig then true top, then Milldown and traverse to Little Millyea. Descent ENE to rejoin Southern Upland Way at ClenrieRobertP04/08/2018
Slogged slowly up atv and close to dyke from Milldown to reach cairn and TP of MM. Ten minutes out and ten minutes back to putative summit at 516825, to have second phase lunch at the cairn next to the TP. The first vist, 18/03/2015, was also solo, coming from/returning to Glenrie and including Milldown. Descended via the dyke running down over Meikle Lump to reach stile and into forest, walking along excellent track named Prof. Hans Heiberg Road past Burnhead to reach P at Forest Lodge, 7h 40m after leavng it. The weather all day had been very good for walking.jacobus23/05/2018
from Forrest Lodge emerging to N side of Folk Burn and onto Polmaddy Gairy (WH route). Sunny and very warm with hazy views. Solo, met 1 other walker. Followed ridge from Corserine to Meikle Millyea (SW top). Stunning views from latter into Loch Dee. Rough descent over Meikle Lump to forest. 6 hrs. Great paths for this part of the world. A classic day.niallp07/05/2018
Parked at road end, Craigencallie. Long walk along forest track. On to open hillside and easily found summit cairn despite thick mist. Then along ridge to Milldown. Eventually found way down to forest track where friendly lorry driver offered me a lift back, saving me a 4 mile hike.AndrewFinnimore19/04/2018

From Corserine- a fine high level walk over Millfire and Milldown. Visited the W top for views and suspecting it might be higher. It isn't but the views are fine, over Silver Flowe to the rocky summit of Craignaw and beyond. Trodden path continued down the NE ridge and had two alternative finishes. I chose the one through heathery knolls to the gate/ ride at GR 534838. Wild goats encountered on way down. Warm and sunny day.pwheeler12/05/2016

Solo. Parked up Glenlee and Garroch Estate road at entrance to track to Clenrie farm. Walked over Rig of Clenrie to Meikle Lump; electric fences! but jumped first at wall and gates at NX 539 828 allowed passage. Joined stane dyke to Meikle Millyea trig/cairn; went out to true summit then directly to Milldown and returned to MM trig for lunch. Returned by reversing uphill route. Overcast by thin cloud; occasional sunny intervals: hazy visiblility. Missed the opportunity to go to D/T Millfire - no knowledge of D/Ts - but returned to M direct from Forest Lodge and Memorial at a later date.trienbrae18/03/2015

From Forrest Lodge to Meikle Millyea, then along the ridge to Meaul and Cairnsgarroch. A long walk with the final descent through tussocks to Garryhorn quite a slog. The bridge over the Garryhorn burn is no more.borderterrier10/10/2010

By Polharrow Burn on Hans Heiberg road. Small soggy footpath to stile over deer fence. Cuckoo heard. Good path led straight up the prow with rocky sections to a substantial ruined stone wall to the top. A long pull on wet path by the wall over tussock to the top at 11.50. Estimated first ascent of quite a few. Solo on a sunny late summer's day. From Forrest Lodge, almost immediately encountered an adder sunbathing on the track. SW past Burnhead along line of McAdam's Burn to the edge of the forest, then a slog over Meikle Lump on to Meikle Millyea. Along the Rhinns Of Kells over Milldown, Millfire and on to Corserine. Along E to North Gairy Top & then steeply down towards Loch Harrow, startling a large herd of deer as I rounded a craglet. Some bolted, some remained impassive chewing away! A firebreak led to the track just S of Loch Harrow & this in turn passed Fore Bush back to Forrest Lodge. One of my favourite walks which I've done several times since.NotReallyABagger01/09/1987
