Walked up fascinating network of lanes, byways and bridleways from Brockweir. Went straight through the gate which was open. The wooded highest area is very much by the house. | Rob Rees | 03/08/2023 |
Roads hereabouts have numerous diversions as fibre comms being installed. Parked in field with laddrovers etc and walked up field with some steel sculptures near house | cjo | 05/04/2023 |
From grassy field to N through gate next to Windward Cottage. HP indeterminate in trees. This is close to the back of Windward House with large gates to SE. | Denise | 26/10/2022 |
From road to N. Field gate beside Windward Cottage then mown track through pasture to summit area beside the very impressive Windward House. High point grass amongst trees beside house. Definite feel of garden of the house. | RichardM | 26/10/2022 |
Difficult to find somewhere to park. Evening visit (8pm), so managed to squeeze into the end of a drive to NE. Walked W along lane to a gate into summit field, by house to NNW of summit. Handy mown path up towards house, before veering right to keep out of sight of downstairs windows. Reached summit grid ref without difficulty. | PGCE | 24/09/2022 |
14km walk from home. Approached from NE, entered field from road at SO542032 (no wall or gate) and walked straight up to highpoint next to house. Nobody about. | Tony J | 14/03/2020 |
As others, staying a few nights at YHA St Briavels Castle. | Dugswell2 | 24/08/2018 |
Parked on building site car park at end of drive and walked up the drive. Didn't see anybody except builders in the distance. | clivevilla | 22/02/2017 |
2nd and last hill of the day on my penultimate Offas Dyke path walk from Monmouth to Chepstow.Branched off route onto track and left large rucksack next to footpath. Walked up driveway and asked permission from the gardener. As she pondered this, i walked to a clump of trees next to the house that looked like the highest point. The land abutting the house looked high too.Continued on to Monmouth. Weather got better later on. | Dazingdale | 21/10/2016 |
Parked at Herbert Anchovy's pull in and walked up lane, by way and through gates up drive after asking a workman if it was OK. Assured me that the owners were very nice people. No doubt, they are a perfect match for a very nice house. | Campbell Singer | 21/09/2016 |
Fascinating house on top of the hill owned by Clifford and his wife, It's part old part new architect designed by Alison Brookes who's won a Sterling prize. Fascinating. | vegibagger | 04/04/2016 |
As others. Parking not easy. | PeterD | 08/08/2015 |
Small pull in at about SO 5436 0331. Did as jonglew although on the way down I discovered there's a gate so no need to potentially damage the wall trying to climb over it. Nice flower rich meadow with mown path to Windward House and lovely veteran chestnut near the top. Highest point within garden I think so stopped at fence. | Herbert Anchovy | 07/05/2015 |
Parking difficult, eventually left car at entrance to access track for Fairways and The Hollies. Over stone wall and wire stock fence; pasture to HP on N side of Windward House, probably in their grounds as grass mown and daffs shooting. | jonglew | 21/02/2015 |
