Parked in layby by the Pye Green BT Tower and followed unmarked paths through the undergrowth to the approximate location. Quite unremarkable. | jessicahickman | 26/03/2024 |
1st of the day. Parked at the crossrodes in pye green, passed the 2 masts and across the relatively newly planted trees. Looks to be mainly birch, pine and a bit of other stuff mixed in. Less than a km in 15 mins | Nicky C | 18/12/2023 |
Parked on the side of the road crossed the road just before the Cannock Chase sign and went through lots of ferns and brambles and eventually found the top. With Dad. | speedyclimber | 26/08/2023 |
During Duke of Edinburgh award weekend | DanHolme | 08/05/2022 |
strolled over from the road to the W. Plenty of brambles although quite low at this time of year. | JK | 13/03/2022 |
Only because I happened to be nearby. | summitsup | 09/01/2022 |
From water tower layby | johnkenyon | 19/11/2021 |
Still dark at 6.30 am for a stumble in the brambles to this non-top. A pity the high point is not at one of the more open and meaningful locations further N along the same broad ridge - The Commonwealth or The German Cemetery, The Katyn memorial, or on a happier note the glacial boulder. As it is here you get close up to the 96m tall concrete Pye Green BT Tower one of the 14 British Cold War 'Backbone' radio network towers. 60 years since then and still the same issues still exist as news this week that China has surprised USA 'experts' by testing a Hypersonic missile which can travel at five times the speed of sound, at an altitude low enough to evade radar, and can launch a further projectile en-route. Now the USA is trying to play catch-up. | Chris Pearson | 19/11/2021 |
GPS suggested a large patch of brambles. HP could be anywhere in the woods. | Richard Gunn | 21/09/2021 |
dog walking by the water tower | davert123 | 07/08/2021 |
Parked in lay-by opposite Pye Green water tower. Wandered through the low undergrowth to the documented high point. Very large flat summit area in thin woodland. Solo. After a weekend in Birmingham visiting Éire. | Dangerous Dave | 24/05/2021 |
Parked in layby by water tower. Short walk to summit in woodland. | PGCE | 26/12/2020 |
Layby parking SJ 9872 1454. HP probably at crest of the road - didn't seem to be higher ground either side. Had a wander through the woodland for an unobstructed shot of the comms tower - a trig intersected station. Stopped off at the nearby water tower as that's also a trig - whether higher ground there or not though.... | jonglew | 17/08/2020 |
Cannock to Hednesford. Revisit. | Smudge | 23/02/2020 |
Up and back from station. | Andrew Pearson | 31/10/2019 |
Parked in lay-by near radio tower and walked around on way to water tower and back. | PeterD | 23/09/2019 |
Hill? Flat as a pancake. | carole engel | 19/04/2019 |
7th hill of 8 on a 26.9km route from Rugeley to Hednesford station, climbing Stile Cop, Upper Cliff, Rawnsley Hills, Castle Ring, Wimblebury Hill and Hednesford Hills, descending on good paths to reach Rawnsley Road then the long trek up Bradbury Lane. This has to be a contender for one of the most inderterminate tops. I gave this a good go however, recording 232m @ SJ 98820 14522 and SJ 98827 14530. Water tower recorded lower. Gap in fence to Radio tower @ SJ 98811 14545, inside 231m @ SJ 98799 14560. Garmin log inspected and 232m recorded @ SJ98811 14553/4 and SJ98827 14530 then crossing field/paddock @ SJ98637/8 14663/4. I followed forest ride to bridleway then fp into the Dogintree estatem heading for Littleton Colliery... | Dazingdale | 25/11/2018 |
Wandered about in the flat wooded area. Continued to the German war cemetery which seemed a more worthwhile activity. | clivevilla | 20/10/2018 |
Hednesford - Littleton Colliery - Badger's Hills - Rawnsley Hills - Upper Cliff - Stile Cop - Castle Ring - Wimblebury Hill - Hednesford Hills - Hednesford. | Mark Jackson | 22/09/2018 |
HP not clear but my best guess is S of the radio tower and E of Broadhurst Green road. With Evie. | RoguePulsar | 07/09/2018 |
Parked in layby opposite water tower and wandered into the pines towards the comms tower. High point seemed somewhere in a direct line between the two. | Wheelsy | 17/03/2018 |
Somewhere in the woods | Colin Crawford | 05/01/2018 |
We walked from Littleton Colliery bing. There is a flattish area with several aerials, a large comms tower and a water tower. We decided the HP was in pines opposite Pye Green water tower. | Denise | 25/10/2017 |
From Littleton Colliery, Large levellish forested summit area with prominent concrete comms. tower and slightly less prominent water tower. The natural high point between the two. | RichardM | 25/10/2017 |
Stile Cop - Upper Cliffe - Rawnsley Hills - Wimblebury Hill - Badger's Hills - Littleton Colliery. 12mile linear route. This summit out and back from the south. Roadside verges an uncomfortable experience, traffic unforgiving. | Moorponder | 24/07/2017 |
Take your pick for the definitive high point. Came up past the water tower then up past the big tower, one or two bumps looked marginally higher.
Final tump of 7 today. Legs well and truly badgered. | stig_nest | 13/03/2017 |
From layby area S of tower seems highest. | rhalstead | 12/03/2017 |
Parked in layby, Brindley Road SJ 98914 14463. Went to banking at edge of wood 10m South of layby opposite Pye Green tower. Also visited horsey field and wood adjacent to horsey field. | David Evans | 04/03/2017 |
Parked near large communication tower then wandered through the woods towards Pye Green water tower to high point then back a different way. | Dugswell2 | 01/03/2017 |
Sought out highest point after nearby orienteering event. Seemed to be south east of the GPO tower. | JohnW | 05/02/2017 |
As for chrisbien. | arranc | 04/02/2017 |
Had a good wander around area, banking at edge of wood 10m S of layby opposite Pye Green tower on Brindley Rd seemed as high as anywhere in the woodland. (Staffordshire Water's Pye Green 1934 tower, not to be confused with much higher radio tower on other side of wood). | Aye Jimmy | 09/10/2016 |
Highest point seemed to be SE of the mast in the trees. | chrisbien | 06/10/2016 |
From radio mast through woods. Indeterminate. | Campbell Singer | 11/07/2016 |
Walked up a path from by the two masts, then though the trees to where my gps was pointing. | Alancache | 04/02/2016 |
Indeterminate top | Bramley | 13/11/2015 |
With Cabe, summit could be either side of the road. | simon and co | 07/11/2015 |
HP close to Pye Green water tower. | Adrian | 10/05/2015 |
Milford to Hednesford. Scrubby woodland just off Brindley Road, SE of tower, seemed most likely HP if you discount 'mounds' in woodland to W of stables. | Smudge | 21/02/2015 |
Highest point appear to be road just S of tower, or halfway across horse field. | RHW | 21/03/2014 |
Quick stop on way to the Chase, hard to tell exact high spot, ground near tower looks just as high, horsey types a bit sus of you strolling cross the fields. at least it was qiute warm & dry. | apricorum | 29/10/2013 |
