1/20. As Skip and Aye Jimmy. The 'wide green track' mentioned by Aye Jimmy has now been ploughed almost out of existence, but its route still forms the best ascent line. Thigh high crop in summit field so didn't venture too far in. 25 mins. | Mark Jackson | 05/09/2023 |

Parked at the start of the track to the ENE, went up track before going through the hedge gap and up using field edges. A longer walk than most of the tumps in this area. | clivevilla | 03/11/2020 |
Took my brother's advice to go up hill before getting to Rytonhill FM- he found the dead end RoW and signage discouraging. Used RoW from A361 at SP550579 and turned SW at gap, via hedge passing SE edge of Grove Spinney where there were a few garden chairs. Didn't see anyone on this walk today. Poppies. | pwheeler | 30/07/2020 |
Bagged as a solo hit-and-run on the way home from visiting Carol. As 'Aye Jimmy' did in 2017 I parked on the lane to Fawsley from the A361. Crossed the main road to the barns then followed a farm track along the hedgerow. The track swings north through a gap in the hedge and runs uphill. The summit is in the next field and - just as when Jimmy visited three years ago - it is over-run with bright poppies and other weeds. A cool clear evening. | Skip | 07/06/2020 |
Ascended as others from the Fawsley Road turn. Followed farm tracks though large field of beans, which looked rather uninviting, though according to the farmer they are for human consumption though not in this country. Crossed field boundary (hedge/line of trees) at the top. High point was in field of stubble - close to where a digger has dug a large hole. Met farmer at the barn on return. He seemed quite amiable. | JohnW | 01/09/2019 |
From the 164m spot height on the A361. An unfenced field boundary runs almost due N from SP 5414 5713. | jonglew | 19/11/2018 |
5th hill of 7 today on my Northants completion walk, using public transport. I climbed Badby Down, Golden Hill, Hinton Hill and Blackdown, walking into Charwelton then taking fp that runs beside the disused railway (now made into a road and much construction work is taking place especially at the tunnel)crossing over and using the field edge, crossing over to the other side halfway through as better views and a green track heads up(near a shelter with what looks like a motorcycle control point). Headed to spot height and a Digger adorned the top, making a trench so walked around this and in the immediate vicinity before continuing North to field hedges intersection, heading West to drainage ditch then North along the boundary, past herd of cows to climb over gate (now on wrong side of track)finding a gap to get over to the correct side, to commence ascent to Arbury Hill.... | Dazingdale | 15/09/2018 |
As per Aye Jimmy. Ardnamurchan here I come!. | arranc | 28/04/2018 |
On RoW almost to Rytonhill, then through fields to flat top, hidden from view by convenient hedgerows | Colin Crawford | 09/01/2018 |
Badby to Hinton. Used the popular Fawsley Road end track; exposed but no barriers or notices. | Smudge | 16/12/2017 |
Same route as AJ , past barns on track, barley gone from summit field, but lots of poppies. Good views. | PeterD | 05/11/2017 |
Barley in Flattish field. | Dugswell2 | 06/08/2017 |
As others, from convenient layby at junction of A361 and road to Fawsley. Track past barns curves along side of field until a large gap appears in hedge, and wide green track rises through crop. At top, left a little, through hedge into barley field. Summit about 150m out into crop (looked poor quality with weeds and poppies). | Aye Jimmy | 06/08/2017 |
Odd case of a dead end public footpath on the map going to Rytonhill Farm from the N, then stopping-why? On the ground not signed and then 'private no row' sign half way up track to farm. Took to the fields and dead ground to right - one bwf then up to pedestrian gate next to corner of wood into summit ploughed field.Largely hidden from farm, but conscious probably not out of alert farm dog sensing range- but all remained quiet. | Chris Pearson | 23/03/2017 |
As Gordon. Very flat. Went to spot height and AB ref. | chrisbien | 09/10/2016 |
Good track through crops from pt 164 | GordonAdshead | 19/07/2016 |
Parked at start of road to Fawsely, crossed busy main road and past barn on its right onto track and then up obvious grassy path in field to near summit. Summit field has winter wheat so made use of tractor marks. | Campbell Singer | 18/02/2016 |
As RHW. Past barns, along track, then up through field of dead beans. | ngthack | 22/08/2015 |
Flattish arable field, nice view. From SSE, parked at start of Fawley Rd. | RHW | 25/02/2012 |
