Up PROW from NW. | cjo | 18/12/2023 |
Late afternoon drive from London: Bunshill, Red Hill and Adwell Cop. | Mark Jackson | 24/09/2022 |
Parked near the start of the ROW up High Lane and across the field to the hp in hedge bank. | milimana | 02/11/2020 |
Bus to edge of Oxford, followed bridleway from Sandhills then smaller FP to top. Continued over top to Shotover Hill although crossing the A40 was most unpleasent. Nice little hill. | trimarc2 | 07/10/2020 |
Via ROW from west. | PGCE | 22/06/2020 |
After Shotover Hill and before Beckley on driving tour of hills east of Oxford. | KC | 11/06/2020 |
Nice 29km loop from Bernwood Forest. | atreides7887 | 07/06/2020 |
Path from the NW goes past a couple of houses and is not all that obvious. Once past the houses it goes across a couple of grassy fields and HP seems to be in the hedge somewhere. | clivevilla | 29/05/2020 |
From Forest Hill up High Path- the RoW from the Main St. There's a slightly worn trod round the field with the HP on its edge. Excellent view over Bernwood Forest. 15 mins, quite pleasant, decent views but there are better Tumps in view across the Vale of Aylesbury | pwheeler | 11/11/2019 |
Just a big field really- from village NW on ROW | Mark Sims | 27/08/2019 |
Up from Forest Hill. Pleasant views.With Oscar. | catman | 15/08/2019 |
With Catman. | oscarrosie | 15/08/2019 |
2nd hill of 6 and 2nd of a 4 tump 18.3km traverse from New Headington to Islip station, climbing Shotover Hill then carrying on Old Road carrying NE on a lovely avenue then on a fp heading N then NE to cross the A40 where a fortuitous toilet block has been sited ( i was desperate!) then following the private track up veering off to climb into field. No problem finding top in hedgebank next to mature trees. I recorded 131m beside mature poplar @ SP 58565 07398. Easy access to fp running Nnw past Forest Hill village continuing on lane for Beckley Hill.... | Dazingdale | 07/07/2019 |
F/p from Forest Hill, round LH edges of summit field then across to HP by large tree in hedge/banking. | Aye Jimmy | 23/03/2019 |
Followed fp through grassy field as others. Straightforward. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 10/03/2019 |
Headington to Oxford Parkway. | Smudge | 18/11/2018 |
Accessed from nearby RoW in Forest Hill. HP is within small copse at field boundary with no distinct point, nor line of sight between possible locations. Not too brambly. Natural HP is probably a mound in field to the S of the embankment but we visited all possible HPs. | Denise | 08/11/2018 |
A stragely busy place, a group of 3 other walkers and a friendly farmer. Luckily on RoW. High point at base of Sweet Chestnut in the levellish wooded bank along the SE edge of the summit field. | RichardM | 08/11/2018 |
Up path from village to north, 17.33...twenty minutes to sunset | vegibagger | 22/10/2018 |
From Forest Hill. Summit by field edge. Short grass still in April. Nice hill apart from the road noise. | Herbert Anchovy | 09/04/2018 |
From the village. Access to summit via stile and steps. | ijpowell | 09/09/2017 |
Getting to Forest Hill was the hard part. Up from the north. No problem with grass due to it being February. Is ther an easier way from the A40? | Campbell Singer | 26/02/2017 |
Simples - an apt but horrible word - the catchphrase of Aleksander the Meerkat accepted by the Collins English dictionary in 2010. From Forest Row on row to an easy open grass field direct to hedge line which had been recently been cut right back exposing summit. Simples indeed. Not sure what Aleksander would have said about previous bagger's route comments - 'horribles' probably? | Chris Pearson | 17/02/2017 |
as per ngthack. Horrendous thrash through head high grass and weeds. Ugh! | arranc | 16/08/2016 |
Parked on B road W of phone box road junction, in Forest Hill. Walked up road and path into field, waded through 5 ft high grass, tough going to field corner, needed trekking pole and long trousers to bash a way through nettles into thick hedge/trees to access highest point on bank by trees - difficult to assess the actual summit. Once out of entanglements, nice views northwards, but slogged around field edge easier for a bit then harder so just ploughed on direct through the tall jungle like grass! To return whence I came. Bring a machete or lawn mower for this one!!! Or better approach might be paths from the NE. | pdantic | 21/07/2016 |
From Forest Hill through field and then to Veg boundary. Met fellow hill bragger. | PeterD | 27/05/2016 |
difficult to survey in trees, summit within 20m | Galltywenallt | 27/09/2015 |
As others. Field heavy going - grass needs mowing :-) | ngthack | 27/08/2015 |
From Forest Hill; RoW through wild flower meadow then short distance off path to field edge and HP. | jonglew | 21/06/2015 |
Roadside parking in Forest Hill village to west. Muddy, but good path to summit field which is well used by dog walkers. Top in hedge along far corner of field. Views north. | Hillsidenick | 23/01/2014 |
From forest Hill, nice views. Top in hedge. | Adrian | 08/12/2013 |
From Forest Hill, easy walk across field, highpoint in hedge. | rhalstead | 22/11/2013 |
