Part of a nice circular walk around the quarry from Croft, myself and Alma Aurea visited this scenic high point and trigpoint. Some nice views from up here.meltdiceburg06/01/2024
Visited during the Croft Canter race, the route of which goes over the summit. Approached from the east around the rim of the quarry, over the top, then down through the trees to Croft. Panoramic views all around.praenterprise23/09/2023
Parked on Huncote Road, then a short walk up to the top, with excellent views.justin_j_evans29/07/2023
Parked to the SW in lay-by SP508964. Popular hill for dogwalkers.David Evans02/01/2023
A remarkably steep and isolated little hill, nice and close to the M1. Convenient pull-in on the road WSW of the summit, and a clear path to the trig point.Mark Jackson30/09/2022
Taking part in the Croft Canter race, the route of which goes over the summit. Approaching from the east side, the ascent was round the rim of the quarry which gave great views down into the big hole, but couldn't run the final part as it was too steep! Paused by the freshly-painted trig pillar before continuing to the finish in the village. Very easy access on public paths (although very steep approaching the top from all sides). Superb panorama on a lovely and enjoyable day.praenterprise24/09/2022
Spiffing little hill and unexpected.Wycombe Wanderer18/04/2022
A Wow! viewpoint from this small isolated hill across one of the biggest man-made holes in Europe - the 1km sq void of Croft Granite Quarry - the closest source of hard rock to London. It is one of 8 Super Quarries in the UK (4 of them in East Mids)/ Turns out 2 million tonnes of granite per year. To do this 6 million tons of the orange clay thick overburden has been removed and landscaped into a new (non Tump!) hill to the E of the quarry. The quarry is a Geological Conservation Review site, noted as it helps to document the growth of continental crust. The ongoing excitingly ambitious project to produce 45 volumes of UK wide field guides (jncc.gov.uk) has restricted its reach as they cost £75 each. I shall have to sadly stick with a copy of i-spy quarries instead. Eventually London wants to fill (most?) of it in with inert waste -concrete, rubble, sand. This isolated hill is also a noted bird migration watching spot in autumn esp. with S /SW winds.Chris Pearson16/12/2021
Field walk from Stoney Stanton. Excellent rewards for such a modest hill. 360 degree panorama including towards the Charnwood hills, city of Leicester, and quarry below. White-painted Trig Point (Croft) at the top.praenterprise05/06/2021
Sonja at Barby. I drove to Croft via Watling Street and Fosse Way. Parked in a small unsurfaced layby at SP 5090 9647. Followed an obvious path north through woodland then veered north-east steeply up to the summit. As others have said, for such a modest hill the views are surprisingly wide all round. The working quarry is impressive too.Skip02/06/2021
Nice walk upto the trigg point.. A huge quarry has really left its mark on the landscape.Filbertfox16/12/2020
Quick up and down from the end of Stanton Lane. Summit and trig. Nice hill.PGCE09/08/2020

From SP50899644. A very pleasing miniature.summitsup19/12/2017
From small layby for 3-4 cars to SW. Rocky outcrop seems slightly higher than trig. Impressive hole in the ground!Aye Jimmy07/05/2017
Parked in layby at 50895 96470. It is indeed a very big hole in the ground. Almost sinister.clivevilla04/04/2017
Walked up from a small lay-by to the SW, great views today.Dugswell202/03/2017
Parked up at the church and followed the path at the side of the quarry. Quite surprised by the views from this little hill. Continued around the side of the quarry to the man made hill on the other side.Wheelsy22/01/2017
Second ascent in a week, in company this timeColin Crawford12/01/2017
Delightful stroll and a proper hill after several dull points earlier in the day. Certainly an impressive hole in the groundColin Crawford03/01/2017
Nice mini hill and huge quarryBramley12/11/2016
Lovely little hill only spoilt by the big hole next to it.Ramblingpaul30/08/2016
As for Mark Sims. Nice Hill.arranc14/07/2016
2nd hill of two today on a 17.3 mi walk from Husbands Bosworth to Narborough with Lexi Rue, my partner's Labradoodle, the first hill being Mowsley hill @177m, following footpaths to Bruntingsthorpe, the 'Leicestershire round' to Peatling Magna and Willoughby Waterleys veering off to pass over M1, taking footpaths to skirt the village of Cosby to Croft where Lexi and i stopped off for a drink before taking the footpath that circumnavigates Croft hill. Short but steep climb to top overlooking quarry. Quarry is of epic size. Paths now exist to complete circuit but after climbing to NE summit we dropped down steps to Croft hill road which we followed into Huncote and then Huncote road to Narborough, terminating at the station.Dazingdale19/03/2016
Interesting semi rocky summit, with dramatic view. Climbed on a Sunday, so no worries about blasting.ngthack27/12/2015
Ascended from the letter box on a damp Sunday afternoon. A surprisingly pleasant walk. Seems like an outcast from Charnwood to the north.JohnW27/12/2015
Parked in Stanton Lane. Avoid 13.00 during the week due to blasting. Easy walk up grassy slope from entrance opposite Stanton Lane. Amazing view down into the abyss of Croft Quarry. 10th of the morning completed by 11.00 thanks to early start and good route planning.Campbell Singer04/12/2015
From letter box. Lovely little hill standing on its own.Mark Sims09/11/2015
K Can't get the tune of Bernard Cribbins Hole in the Ground out of my head for some reason. Quick stop parking by the postbox at the T junction below the hill, up the obvious route to the trig point on a rock outcrop on an otherwise grassy summit, which has an unexpectedly huge view in all directions. A lovely little spot.crazy10/10/2015
Space for 2 cars by letterbox. Easy route to top. Great views and of the quarry.PeterD04/10/2015
From letterbox at end of Thurlaston Lane: Style to nice little top.GordonAdshead20/02/2015
From layby and the trig. Goodviews, quarry almost looks like a caldera.Adrian26/05/2014
Come up here a lot for some outdoor running training, lots of steps and short but steep climbs to make it interest - quite a brutal 5k if you're interested. Either way great views from the trig point on the top.Cap_Thunderbolt01/05/2013
This brightly painted white trig can be seen for miles around as it is on top of the only hill in the area. The hill overlooks a nearby quarry and gives grat views of the surrounding countyside. There are no footpaths to the top according to my map but on the ground there are many paths on and around the hill.Father Ted08/02/2004
