Round of six Donalds from Glen Afton - Blackcraig, Blacklorg, Meikledodd, Alwhat, Alhang, Windy Standard - back using wind farm tracksColin Crawford22/05/2021
I headed down to East Ayrshire today, aiming for the four Donalds around the Afton Reservoir, south of New Cummock. Parking at Blackcraig Farm (about 3km north of the dam), I headed up the track to Quintin Knowe and up a boggy ATV track to Blackcraig Hill (700m) a Graham and Donald. Then in a clockwise motion around the Afton Reservoir, following boggy ATV tracks, I bagged the Donald of Blacklorg Hill (681m), two Donald Tops of Meikledodd Hill (643m) & Alwaht (628m) and ending on the Donald of Alhang (642m). The plan had been to head west for Windy Standard, a Graham and Donald, but I was tired and didn’t fancy the descent then re-ascent required, so I followed the Afton Water north to the Reservoir. At the north end of the reservoir, I bumped into the farmer, who gave me a lift back down the glen to my car, saving me approx. 3km of a hike. It was generally dry all day, with small patches of snow already lying. With the farmer’s assistance this took 05:55hrs all in.chillyman805/05/2021
Round of Afton Water from car park 300m from damsarahk01/05/2021
From Polskeoch, small parking area 600m before end of public road (NS 6921 0253), nothing further on. Newish looking logging track leads off main track at NS 6729 0272 for Meikledodd Hill first. Then easy open fellside across to here. On to Corse Hill -> Rough Naze.jonglew12/04/2021

Solo. Parked just south of start of track to Blackcraig. Up to Quintin Knowe for a satisfying circuit of Blackcraig Hill, Blacklorg Hill, Meikledodd Hill, Cannoch Hill and Craigbranreoh Hill. Mist lifted off the tops as I started so I could see where I was going- always nice! Rain towards the end.pwbellarby28/04/2019

Round of Windy Standard, Alhang, Alwhat, Meikledodd, Blacklorg and Blackcraig.PGCE24/09/2018
Climbed up from MH col/contractors station on rough atv track to reach stile and cairn on summit of BH; had second phase lunch - just as wet as first phase on Alwhat. Returned down to col rather than going over Cannock Hill and shoulder descending to dam of Afton reservoir: this route in reverse had been my ascent on the first visit, also solo, on 08/08/2015. Had a chat with bored contractor sitting in his van, who advised that only small vehicles were expected on the descending W track beside the new pylon line. On approaching SE end of reservoir, the landscape had been so changed from 2015 that I mistakenly took the wrong track along the reservoir bank; about turn and continued over new bridges over Montraw Burn and Afton Water, hoping to find the original track on the W bank. Fortunately the new tracks leading up to the expanded windfarm on Wedder and Lamb Hills have diverted from the original track which is still serviceable, allowing me to veer off at the dam wall and then to P.jacobus20/08/2018
Walked along fence line from Blackcraig Hill. Easy enough, very misty day. Bit boggy. Could not see the wind farms (or the hills) today.nickywood119/08/2018
Loop of Glen Afton from water works (car park closed but plenty room) taking in Black Hill, Struther's Brae, Windy Standard, Alhang, Alwhat, Meikledodd Hill, Blacklorg Hill, Cannock Hill and Craigbraneoch Hill. Excellent walking though lots of new wind farm stuff (restricted currently as construction site).SS14/07/2018
From parking near Afton Dam, path on east side of reservoir before striking up easy grass onto first Cannock Hill. Fine views, ok slightly harmed by the wind farm, new extension and power transmission track cutting over the bealach to Meikledodd Hill.N.Morters14/07/2018
Parking area beyond waterworks at 627055 & up Craigbraneoch Hill & Cannock Hill. From Cannock Hill, followed a decent path alongside fence to summit cairn. Continued to Meikledodd Hill, Alwhat & Alhang. (S)gerrybowes23/05/2018
S/F Water of Ken carpark (campervan-friendly). Via Alhang, Alwhat and Meikledodd. Misty so would have been very tricky without the fences to follow. Back down via Larg Hill. Easy ground for the most part and not too boggy.AndrewFinnimore11/04/2018
Climbed from Blackcraig Hill by following fence down then ascending BlacklorgFlyingrabbit11/11/2017
A lovely day doing five Donalds.Play2End09/08/2017
Climbed by an unmapped forestry track from Craigdarroch towards Cannock Hill. Only the last short climb to the fence is grim tussocks, and the non-opening gate has to be climbed. After Cannock Hill, on to Blacklorgs and Blackcraig Hills, with only modest amounts of squelchy bog. Down on the good path to Blackcraig.Gill16/02/2017

From Blackcraig hill. Part of an 11 summit clockwise circuit of Glen Afton. On to Meikledodd Hill.Minto05/06/2016
Parked on the minor road beyond the entrance to Blackcraig farm. Then up towards this farm beford diverting across a small bridge to use gate to get onto hill. Then north through some fields before taking a more direct route to Blackcraig Hill with 2 inches of snow on its northern side. Then onto Blacklorg Hill which was easy enough before returning by a route crossing the Craig Burn to join a track lower down to Craig Farm and then back to the minor road.Dugswell210/04/2016
