From Haytor Rocks. Crossed the moor to the summit via Haytor Quarries. Returned via lane to the south-east. Solo. | Man of Kernow1 | 14/04/2018 |
Quick walk enroute Home from Devon | nell1583 | 15/06/2017 |
Last hill of the day and very dark under superb star filled skies. Wandered (and wondered) around the levelish summit of grass, gorse and heather but found nothing that leapt out as a high point. | RichardM | 20/01/2017 |
By the time we reached here, the sky was as black as the name, albeit with various stars appearing. We wandered around all likely places on this flat moorland with gorse thickets, bracken and icy pools. A superb day's walk. | Denise | 20/01/2017 |

Approach from the south. Although you can park on the minor road to the east the route is mostly trackless and through gorse and bracken. | moorsman | 22/08/2014 |
Climbed from the North East and the minor road. It was a cool cloudy early morning. The exact summit was hard to determine I visited possible high points my GPS gave the summit as the small rocky outcrop at SX7605178657. | isabelle | 28/04/2014 |
very hot day. | Adrian | 13/07/2013 |
From Sharpitor across valley to NE- no list- a jungle ridge traverse (first ascent/ crossing?) which kept on going to highest blocks split by a wide chimney - climbed to summit.Long plod homeward via Water for water top up and uphill to Black Hill 400m top and via Hay Tor quarries (used for London Bridge –now in America) Ice cream van long gone. We camped in same spot close to where War Horse had been filmed that day. | Chris Pearson | 06/08/2010 |

Following (more or less) Wild Walks chapter (40)linked up Hay Tor quarries, Hound Tor, Grimspound, over Hameldown to Widdecombe and Rippon Tor (qv) on the way back. I'll leave you to read the Diadem book (Wilson & Gilbert) for inspiration and context-- wonderful book, engrossing walk. | pwheeler | 10/09/1993 |
