Parked near Glen Afton Water Works then using mainly wind farm tracks to Windy Standard and Dugland via Wedder Hill, Millaneoch Hill then onto Keoch Rig and Moorbrock Hill | Longwojo | 29/08/2023 |
From Moorbrock Hill via its North Top and wind farm road. Summit quite close to a turbine. | Crumblie2 | 02/08/2023 |
Summit is now in the midst of wind turbines so make sure you have an up-to-date map. | 49pp | 18/04/2023 |
From Moorbrock Hill N Top. Down grass slope to join wind farm road. Followed road to summit area. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 03/10/2022 |
Parked at the entrance to the Moorbrock Estate, hiked to Moorbrock House, then took the track above the treeline and around the west slope of Green Hill. Followed a grassy track up the North slope of Green Hill and onto Moorbrock Hill. Then down to meet the Windy Rig windfarm (just completed, turbines are massive, though sparsely spaced out) tracks over to Keoch Rig. Followed a fenceline up to Windy Standard, then used the tracks of that older windfarm (these turbines are tiny in comparison), to gain Dugland. From I dropped down to Clennoch bothy for some lunch out of the sunshine. Hiked straight back along the track to regain my outward route. Very sunny day with modest gusts, but the flies were out in force, 06:35hrs all in. | chillyman8 | 18/07/2022 |
Limited verge parking at start of new road to Moorbrock (NX640953). Moorbrock. If you take the first track after the residences on W side of Poltie Burn (unmapped), you can still get onto the track around Green Hill via some wide firebreaks which snake up towards it, then a short brush through the trees. ATV track to Moorbrock Hill, Alwhat, then new wind farm road over Keoch Rig, Windy Standard, Trostan Hill, Dugland on old wind farm roads, back to Windy Standard, down new wind farm road to Hags of Poljargen, then scree and pathless deep grass to Mid Hill of Glenhead, An Tx and deep grass on to Dodd Hill. Descended W on obnoxious veg to get to new wind farm road ASAP, which led back to the entrance gate to the Moorbrock estate. | Isbjorn | 15/06/2022 |
Parked at Moorbrock Estate/Windy Rig Wind Farm entrance (Water of Ken) for round of Moorbrock Hill, Moorbrock Hill North Top, Keoch Rig, Mid Hill of Glenhead and Dodd Hill. Now possible to return from Keoch Rig entirely on wind farm tracks! | RobB | 02/05/2022 |
From Cairnsmore of Carsphairn. Now in the middle of a wind farm. | Owen B | 17/04/2022 |
Moorbrock, Keoch Rig, Dugland, Cairnsmore of Carsphairn and Beninner from Craigengillan | JimT | 12/01/2022 |
Parked at start of new wind farm (NX 6405 9528). Took WF road for 1.33km before cutting across WSW to pick up a logging road for Craigengillan Hill. Cut back to Moorbrock to pick up a good track that went round Green Hill and almost all the way up to Moorbrock Hill then on to its North Top. Dropped down ~110m to pick up an unmapped WF road on the way up Alwhat and continued on it to here. Continued on to Mid Hill of Glenhead (using some of the new WF roads) -> Dodd Hill, returning to road at Strahanna Bridge (last leg from Dodd Hill over very poor ground) for a 19km round. | jonglew | 05/09/2021 |
yorkielad | 02/09/2021 | |
Much construction work and the summit area has been completely disrupted with a turbine and numerous areas of spoil, very difficult to discern the natural high point | Colin Crawford | 29/05/2021 |
Windy Standard Round 11. 34.5km, 1834km ascent, 10.5hrs. One to forget | Huwel | 27/02/2021 |
Dugland, Tristan, Jedburgh Knees, Windy Standard, Keoch Rig, Moorbrock. Beautiful day. Such a shame about the wind farm devastation. With R, B and Brian. | jenx | 27/09/2020 |
Approx 40km round from Glen Afton, starting near Craigdarroch. Direct ascent to Yarngallows Knowe, then Struther's Brae, Black Hill (also visiting tops similar in height to the summit), Black Hill, Wedder Hill, Millaneoch Hill, Keoch Rigg, Moorbrock Hill N Top, Moorbrock Hill, Dodd Hill (+ nearby mounds of similar height), Mid Hill of Glenhhead, camped near summit off Alhang. Continued short distance to Alhang summit, then Ewe Hill N Top, Ewe Hill, Alwhat, Meikledodd Hill, Blacklorg Hill, Cannock Hill and Craigbraneoch Hill, descending to cross bridge at Craigdarroch. Rain for much of route, and wet underfoot. | RobertP | 22/08/2020 |
Parked at Craigengillan (just space for one car off road). Moorbrock Hill, Keoch Rig, Dugland, Benniner. | PGCE | 18/11/2019 |
fa, solo, sunny and breeze on the tops, wet underfoot on the hills, with some land rover tracks, 25.5km, 9hr from clennoch bothy to new cumnock via, tracks, hillside to keoch rig with a new mast on its top, past the putting stone to windy standard along the wind farm tracks, down to a col and along a fence then up to Alhang, alwhat , meikledodd hill, then across a new track not marked on the maps or viewranger, blacklorg hill, blackcraig hill and down to quintin knowe to pick up the track down to blackcraig farm, then the minor road all the way to the train station in new cumnock | rum doodle | 07/06/2019 |
Came across from Beninner via a slightly wet col, although walking not too bad this time of year. Followed messy tracks made by large tracked vehicles. Some new wind turbines are being considered here. Out over Moorbrock Hill, and via the main Moorbrock Estate track. | LizH | 10/04/2019 |
Parked in wide entrance to forest track at 641953 & up Moorbrock Hill. From Moorbrock Hill, followed an ATV track over the N. Top & Alwat to the unmarked summit which lies close to mast. Without the ATV track it would have been a tough walk as plenty of tussock! Continued to Dugland. (S) | gerrybowes | 27/02/2019 |
Solo, continuation of walk over Moorbrock Hill up from intervening col on atv track which deteriorated amongst tussocks on ridge to summit of KR which now sports a tall coms. mast powered by photo-voltaic panels at its base. Returned back to col and turned R to descend over v rough terrain to main track at 611987 where lunch was taken perched on base of a hide. Walked S on track back through Estate houses, over old bridge and along track to P nr Craigengillan. Wind dropped in early a/noon so that Saltire on pole at Moorbrock House hung limply; some welcome sunshine. First visit was, also solo, on 22/07/2015 coming from Beninner and going onto Moorbrock Hill: there was no coms. mast on KR at that date. | jacobus | 29/10/2018 |
From Moorbrock Hill, and yes that is a mast in the summit area not shown on the map. Onto Cairnsmore of Carsphairn in low cloud and light drizzle. | N.Morters | 20/10/2018 |
Loop from Craigengillan (layby as no parking signs at cottage now) up past new builds at Moorbrock and track to summit. Down and up to mast on Keoch Rig then up to fence and along ridge to Mid Hill of Glenhead. Came down past obvious shooting tower to track. | SS | 29/09/2018 |
Walked up private road to the immaculate Moorbrock estate buildings (strangely no sign of life despite it being middle of stalking season). Then good track all the way round to northern slopes and final climb to summit where there is now an enormous mast. Took a more direct sw line on the way back to join track. | AndrewFinnimore | 28/09/2018 |
Walked over from Moorbrock hill - about 2k to complete our round of the Carsphairn Hills. These have been our hardest of all the Donalds so far because of the weather we have experienced and the underfoot conditions being quite wet and limited trods. But still very manageable. | nickywood1 | 20/08/2018 |
Two day walk from New Cumnock to Carsphairn with an overnight at Clennoch | Colin Crawford | 15/04/2018 |
From Afton CP via William's Castle, then Black Hill, Wedder Hill, Millaneoch Hill, Windy Standard, Jedburgh Knees, Trostan Hill, Dugland, across the Clennoch Burn to Keoch Rig and return. Afton is now surrounded by the sprawling and expanding ugliness of Brocklog Rig wind farm. To add insult to injury, construction workers were putting up a radio mast on the summit of Keoch Rig as I arrived | Nick Down1 | 24/03/2018 |
On the way south to do the 2nd Donald. | Play2End | 09/08/2017 |
Alone. Circuit from Craigengillan, taking in Cleddoch bothy. | Grinner | 23/07/2017 |
Heatwave. Started at Craigengillan / Water of Ken and climbed the east side of Beninner, Cairnsmore, crossed to Keoch Rig and Moorbrock and then down via Moorbrock Estate house. The climb over tussocky grass going up Keoch Rig was torturous. SMC guide route. | Roblex | 26/05/2017 |
Great little walk from NS 623012 - ATV on fenceline all way to Moorbrock Hill (SIM) via Keoch Rig. Trods from col between Moorbrock and Alwhat to Bawnland, allowing easy access to Mid Hill of Glendeah (5D) | carole engel | 11/09/2016 |
From Craigengillan, circle via Keoch Rigg and Dodd Hill. Sunny, cold and good views. | iangalbraith | 11/02/2016 |
Acw round struthers brae, black hill, jedburgh knees, windy standard, trostan hill, dugland, keoch rig, millaneoch hill, wedder hill, cannock hill, craigbraneoch hill, from afton water works. | robertphillips | 27/12/2015 |
Solo; continuation of walk from Beninner onto main track coming under Green and Moorbrook Hills; left the track at an elevated hive and went up Hog Hill and round to KR plateau but found no marker and used GPS to confirm. Descended to col with Moorbrock Hill and climbed its N shoulder. Weather sunny intervals but overcast. | seumas | 22/07/2015 |

Dropped down and around ridge from Windy Standard to Keoch Rig. | derekblackburn | 24/10/2010 |
from Moorbrock N top. Difficult spongy tussock and moor grass trudge down to col and up to the right to another flat brown tussock area. 13.20. to Beninner. | arranc | 02/04/2008 |
