With Nikko and Romeo, I parked just south of Blackhopebyre Farm on the B709. We walked along a track up Glentress Rig to Windlestraw Law, then along to Bareback Knowe and returned down along the fenceline to Glentress Farm, then back up the B709. Some grey clouds and hazy in the distance, but thankfully dry all day. This was Nikko's first a Fiona, Donald & Donald Top, that's him now done one of all the lists of the Full House.chillyman825/02/2024

Parked S of Blackhopebyre, took track up Glentress Rig and on to revisit Windlestraw Law. Contu=inued to Bareback Knowe and Dod Hill (ascent surprisingly rough) and descent NE to road at Glentress.RobertP18/09/2023

Roadside verge parking between Glentress and Blackhopebyre (NT 3420 4364). Up to Whitehope Law, Middle Hill, Eastside Heights and Windlestraw Hill first, then easy fenceline down to here. On to Dod Hill and return for a 16.3km round which completed the Donalds and Donald Tops.jonglew25/02/2023
With Rod, again from Walkerburn, out just bypassing Kirnie Law, over Priesthope Hill then by Glede Knowe and Bareback Knowe to Windlestraw Law. Returned by Middle Hill.SS24/01/2023
Walkhighlands route from Leithen Road CP with SHC. Excellent and straightforward route.TRG31810/07/2022
Limited parking at Blackhopebyre (NT344440). ATV track S then E up Glentress Rig to Wallet Knowe, fades to path to top of Windlestraw Law. Good ATV track 25m SE of fence to SW top of Widlestraw Law.Isbjorn13/06/2022
Climbed with my daughter on a beautiful dry Sunday afternoon from Innerleithen on the Windlestraw horseshoe to Walkerburn. Our first DT was Bareback Know. Followed by our first Graham - Windlestraw!bumfit29/05/2022
6.6 mile walk from Colquhar farm. Followed Siller Road track up to col then ascended on ATV tracks fairly steeply onto Bareback Knowe and onto Windlestraw Law. Returned back to Siller Road col and ascended Dod Hill descending grass slopes back to Colquhar. Clear and sunny but very windy above 550m. Good views in all directions. Obviously no one about. 632m ascent. Earlier that day we bagged Mountbenger Law.DanTrig20/03/2022
Whitehope Law, Dod Hill, Bareback Knowe and Windlestraw Law. On the way down from Whitehope I baulked a bit at the “bridge” which was just 2 telegraph poles at GR 342437 so walked downstream and crossed over at the bridge at Glentress.tsharp22/12/2021
With Frances. I had to correct a navigational error at the start as we headed up the wrong track. We were lucky that the rain that rolled in from the south and east stayed away from us. In part this walk was a fitness check before the St Cuthberts Way next weekend as well as catching the Donald Top at Bareback Knowe.langskill12/09/2021

Parked on verge at NT341436, S of Blackhopebyre, on to track up Glentress Rig and Wallet Knowe (increasingly churned by ATVs higher up) continuing directly up to summit of Windlestraw Law, then SW along fence line to summit Bareback Knowe (summit unmarked), then along another fence NW towards Glentress, ending back on road just SW of the Glentress cottage, and returning along road to carkdbennett03/07/2021
I was chasing the ‘good’ weather today and I headed for the Scottish Borders just north of Innerleithen. This was only a short walk, 3:30hrs, to get Windlestraw Law (659m) a Donald & Graham, then Bareback Knowe (657m) a Donald Top. I parked on the B709 near Blackhopebyre Farm, then walked up a track along the Glentress Rig to Windlestraw Law and returned along the Glentress Burn. There was a couple of light showers, higher cloud, but there was still some views.chillyman809/05/2021
Continued on from Windlestraw, then direct though valley back to Blackhopebyre. With B and R.jenx10/10/2020
Parked on the B709 before Blackhopebyre and the track up Glen Rig was followed a bog fest of a track up to Windlestraw Law, route was extended to Eastside Heights following the fence before returning to Windlestraw and continuing the route over Bareback Knowe and then up to White hope Law. Just under Twelve mile in Six and a quarter hours.WAYNE ROWLETT06/10/2020
A round of the Gatehopeknowe hills from the A72. Along the estate track to Kill Brae, startling several hundred partridge as we passed. Found a gate and ATV track NE of Pyat Hill which allowed a relatively easy climb to Early Knowe. North from here, alongside the thick forest through bracken and carex, to join the main route up to the dip between Scawd Law and Cairn Hill. Bagged both on pretty good footpaths before tackling Bareback Knowe and Windlestraw Law. A slight detour to Mossy Rig before re-joining the main ridge below Redscar Law. Headed home over Maiden Law, Seathope Law and Stony Knowe before re-joining the estate track at Kill Brae. A mix of stone track, ATV route and animal tracks throughout kept the heather and bracken bashing to a minimum.summitter18/07/2020
Up Glentress Rig to Windlestraw Law then over to Bareback Knowe for better views and more comfortable spot to take a break. Straight down west to the road from there.the pigguy 08/03/2020

From Windlestraw with Anne Butler. Traversed northwards when descending to reach original path we came up and then back to car at 343437.bolton06/07/2019
Solo from B709, parking S of Blackhopebyre and ascending S on rising track then E over Wallet Knowe to Windlestraw Law, turning SW along broad ridge to summit cairn of Bareback Knowe for lunch. Returned to WL, inspected comms line-of-sight dishes, powered by solar panels, and down up-hill route. Weather had threatened rain but it remained dry and overcast with SW wind. First visit was also solo on 12/09/2015, during first round of Donalds and Tops; then it rained heavily with thick mist all of the walk.jacobus19/03/2019
Parked on B709 a short distance SW of Glentress. Followed the path opposite, to the beallach between Dod Hill and Bareback Knowe. Followed vehicle tracks to the top.LizH11/03/2019
From Windlestraw Law following meandering vehicle tracks. Then followed fence line down Bareback Knowe to Glentress and back up the road to the car near Blackhopebyre.Clach Liath11/02/2019
From Walkerburn out to Priesthope then forest tracks to Kirnie Law and on to Priesthope Hill. From there bit of a trudge out to Windlestraw Law picking up top on return and out over Scawd Law can Cairn Hill. Sun kept trying but never got there.SS18/11/2018

Parked on wide verge at 343437 & up Windlestraw Law. From Windlestraw Law, headed SW on left side of fence, making use of available ATV tracks. Needed to step over fence to set foot on the unmarked summit. Continued to Scawd Law. (S)gerrybowes25/09/2018

Glorious sunny & hot, but fortunately breezy day. With J following the track from just S of Blackhopebyre winding up Glentress Rig, having parked off the road 300m S of the gate on B709. Relatively dry underfoot. Track becomes grassy then heathery further up & goes quite a bit further than the OS map would suggest these days almost to the summit. Wandered SW past the vane across to the minor 657m top & then returned via the route of ascent cutting off the corner of the upper summit slopes. Nearly back at the farm when a tiny chick hopped off the track into the grass as its mother ran about trying to distract us. We left them in peace but it was in more danger from being accidentally munched by the very large number of sheep...NotReallyABagger24/05/2017
A round of Gate Hope: Stony Knowe, Seathope Law, Maiden Law, Windlestraw Law, Bareback Knowe, Scawd Law, Cairn Hill and Early Knowe. Pleasant walking on a day of swirling cloud and sun. Erno Rubik designed the gates hereabouts: don't even think of opening them with gloved hands. A coil of wire mesh at the corner of the wall at 370384 can be rolled back to gain access to the western slopes of Early Knowe.Nick Down121/05/2017

Solo; P S of Blackhopebyre, walked up track, v boggy, to trig pillar of G/D Windlestraw Law then SW along fence to large cairn of BK; returned NE to WL and down track to P. Weather was atrocious - blowing a hooley, heavy rain and thick mist, ca. 100mtr visibility on top - wonder why I got out of the car ?seumas12/09/2015
Picked this one off with Brian on the Tour de Glasgee trip in his van. Another superb sunny day up on these grouse fells. Keeping covered up as already sunburnt from previous two days in Scotland, yes sunburnt.Mark T23/04/2015
A short stroll over from Windlestraw Law on frozen ground and clear conditions before dropping down to the head of the Glentress Burn.Roblex19/11/2013

Delayed our start and headed east to drier weather as a very wet morning dried up to being just drizzly -ground sodden. W. Darren from west picking up ATV tracks- carried on to SW top. A long good gentle angled run sploshing across sodden pastures all the way back down to road.Chris Pearson14/04/2013
