All British reptiles can only be found on heathland, and all six (adder, smooth snake, grass snake, slow worm ,sand lizard, viviparous lizard) exist in Stephen’s Castle nature reserve passed on the climb up from Verwood.Despite the warming spring sun nothing stirred on my passing. Equally reclusive were any sightings of Batman at the hamlet of Gotham to the west, nor any sign of Noah’s Ark perched on Mount Ararat, so named in the woods to the east. Only saw a lot of trees - but one never knows... | Chris Pearson | 24/03/2019 |
