Circular walk from parking nr bridge at 159 115. Saddle Yolk, Under Saddle Yolk, Cape Law, Din Law, Ellers Cleuch Rig, Garelet Dod, Great Hill, Firthope Rig, White Comb, Carrifran Gans. With B and R. Didn't see a soul. Nice unspoilt area.jenx29/07/2020
Beautiful view waterfall on initial ascent. River too high to cross safely until near the Loch (had to take boots off and wade), then went cross-country to get back to path beside fence. Straight forward walk up from there with good 360 views from top. Went back to car park via Nether Tarnberry to avoid crossing river again, followed fence line down but was still extremely steep with no trodden path. Very hard work on ankles and knees, not recommended!Eliza10012/08/2019

The Hart Fell heart-shaped horseshoe to White Coomb. Started at Blackhope, up to Swatte Fell then Hart Fell, Under Saddle Yoke & White Coomb then back to the start. Included the Donald tops en route during the long, tough and often pathless hike but it was still a grand day out with good views.Chris Mac22/09/2018

Parked approx 2km SW of Grey Mare's Tail car park. Walked along road to car park and followed standard ascent track for c 1km then direct climb NE to Watch Knowe, visiting the summit plus other mounds of similar height. Descent NW to col then fairly steep climb to Lochcraig Head. Steep descent W then climb to ridge and diversion NW to Molls Cleuch Dod, back over Firthybrig Head and along ridge to White Coomb. Descent to col then simple climb to Carrifran Gans, camping near summit. Descent W in the morning along ridge then through gap in forestry to reach track and road a short distance from car.RobertP08/10/2016
Parked in the NTS Grey Mare's Tail car park, costing £2. This was JT's first Corbett, at the age of 6, climbed on a round of Loch Skeen. A warm sunny day made it into a fantastic day.Sprog17/09/2016
Last of three tops for today, starting from the Grey Mare's Tail car park off the A708 this 3.5 mile walk with 600m of climb can be found in Jonny Muir's book of UK County tops. The summit is easily reached if you follow the shin high wall on the left of the burn after you pass the top of the waterfall.WAYNE ROWLETT24/08/2016

Grey Mare's Tale, round the Loch and up to Lochcraig Head. Round the ridges and up to the summit. Back to Tail Burn - in full spate and couldn't find anywhere to ford it! Had to detour back up Nether Tarbery leading to a very very steep descent.callumorr28/03/2016

From Gray Mares tail car park, crossed the icy Tail Burn above the water falls. Continued up to summit which required crampons on the refrozen snow and ice. Walked on to Lochcraig Head with a short detour to the true summit. Then down to the east side of Loch Skeen. A fine winter tramp.mindlessflogger26/02/2016

Epic 9 mountain walk, parked nearby Capelgill walked along the not very busy main road to Carrifran farm, bagged Carrifran Gans, White Coomb, Firthhope Rig, through the boggy Rotten Bottom, up to Under Saddle Yoke, and the lower Saddle Yoke, forded the burn up onto Hart Fell, Falcon Craig, Swatte Fell and Nether Coomb Craig picking a steep route back down to Capelgill, fantastic walk in fantastic weather.DanTrig12/06/2015
2nd Hill of 8 starting from The Grey Mare's Tail car park and ending in Moffat. Having got a taxi from Moffat i climbed up on the path beside the Waterfall and then crossed the tail burn higher up before cutting back to Upper Tarnberry (getting windy) and then climbed up a zig-zagging path eventually meeting a fence which I followed close to the summit. I couldnt stay long as the wind was too strong.Dazingdale12/05/2015

En route to the islands we detour to bag this gem. Parking up at the base of the Grey Mares Tail on a blue crisp and clear morning (08.45)we take the stone path that climbs the side of the waterfall up to Loch Skeen - From here we meander along the bughas and caochans climbing Whitecomb via the Crags - A sudden change grassy rounded expanse with snowy patches. We descend to loch Skeen via Donald's Cleuch Head slowly - soaking up the rays.briandavies23/04/2015
