O: SE part is lower, by maybe 1ft. Obviously manmade anyway; natural HP would be underneath resr somewhere.

Just a quick walk up to bag this summit this evening whilst in the area for another walk. A pleasant little spot with a better view than I'd expected.meltdiceburg11/10/2023
From Fairfield Hospital up the lane (pavement) to Crank, then SE along the bridleway track and up to the top of the covered reservoir. Return by outward route. Solo. 3.0km, with 40m of ascent.Man of Kernow114/04/2023
Easy parking near road corner in Crank. Visited summit and caverns.PGCE26/02/2023
As others.lordtonult08/11/2022
One of the easier summit point reservoirs to access.summitter29/08/2022
Walk up from village. Easy to access highest part without crossing fence or wall. Map coords seem a bit off.JK31/10/2021
Easily parked on the bend at 505997. An easy 15 minute return stroll. Solo. Great views.bolton06/11/2020
Don't just bag the hill but visit Crank Caves which are in the wood to the east. They are fascinating. Unfortunately there is graffiti and litter but once you see past that and go into them and crawl round they are brilliant. I thought the lefthand of the main entrances was best.Alan Moore02/11/2020
Parking space for 2 cars by start of track at SJ 5062 9968. Up track to unfenced covered reservoir which probably lies on top of the natural high point. (S)gerrybowes06/08/2020
Along the lanes from Upholland station via King's Moss - a few miles of tarmac trudging but the pleasant countryside made it feel quick. Lovely views in all directions and felt quite bleak up there. No fence around the summit area. On to Billinge Hill and Orrell for the train home.Jake99417/07/2020
Parking at the start of the foopath then a very easy walk to the top, 10 minutes return or less.moorsman07/03/2020

Visited on way home from working in St Helens. Parked at end of track and walked up the lane to reservoir. Fences all broken down so climbed up to highest point.Argentum6609/10/2019
Parked Moss Bank end, walked up between a couple of houses then on past Shoots Delph Farm. Through a couple of gates then along pathway with hedge on left side and a couple of small wind turbines. To the right are pleasant views over Billnge. Pathway descends into private wooded area to the right the ascends through openness. We had peas on the left and beautiful barley on the right blowing harmoniously in the wind. Once at the summit near a solar panel that seems to be powering nothing we discovered what seems to be a ROC bunker or covered reservoir? Views are different from all others in the area, enigmatic and at almost 360 degree panama. We walked down, easterly, towards the woods where we discovered the Crank Caverns where ado about nothing. There’s an eeriness to this hill, strangely it’s a very enjoyable feeling of eeriness. Toodleloo.Carpet10/08/2019

Solo from small lay-by on a sharp bend in the road at SJ 50606 99682. The summit is a covered reservoir, it took 7 mins to walk it.ADT19/03/2019

Short walk along well -used track/ RoW along field boundary in Crank village (with parking at start) to grass -covered reservoir ( not enclosed) . HP on perimeter. Bare leaved beeches silhouetted against a perfectly blue sky nearby.Denise 27/12/2017

4th Hill & 5th log for today, completing St.Helens UA on a route from Wrightington to St.Helens Bus station, climbing Harrock Hill, Ashhurst's Beacon, Billinge Hill North top and Billinge Hill. I descended S then Sw to meet minor lane then onto Rainford road, across field to meet Black Brook; it was too wide to jump over so i folowed this into the woodland and eventually found a tree that had fallen over allowing me to cross. Followed tributary stream up crossing this to cross ploughed field and reach edge of woodland and footpath that leads to the reservoir. Woodland has severe drops and worth exploring in its own right. Visited top of reservoir, track and highest natural ground to the South then descended SE past Shoot's Delph Farm to follow road SW then South across A580 into St. Helens, finishing at the Bus station to take bus to Warrington then train to Nottingham.Dazingdale17/09/2017
From Crank, short walk up track then onto broken fenced reservoir.rhalstead17/04/2017
When I arrived I realised I had a couple of dates 40 years ago with a young woman who lived in Crank. And, no, we did not visit the summit.Martin R28/03/2017
From the pull-in to the track summit, then along the potentially higher natural ground on the far side of the wall. To avoid treading on the ploughed and planted field, this involved a comedy hand traverse at the point where the field margin becomes very narrow.Nick Down115/03/2017
An unfenced reservoir compound! We walked all over without any concern! A short walk up the bridleway from Crank with Sail & Eire.Dangerous Dave29/01/2017
With great views north to the cubical stone building on top of Marilyn, Billinge Hill week framed by two beech trees here at Crank hill. St tump complete.vegibagger09/10/2016
Short drive from Orrell then easy short trek up to former reservoir. Good views of derricks in Liverpool and Fiddlers Ferry power station.JOHNS09/09/2016
From end of track. Went to high point on reservoir and also high point of track as that seemed to be the highest natural spot.clivevilla05/08/2016

From layby at bottom of track. Return through woods where Crank caverns are. Legends of underground lakes tunnels and churches!!mart079725/01/2016
Up track from parking on bend to covered reservoir.Minto01/01/2016
Covered resr unfenced with no sign; some sort of GRP kiosky thing with a solar panel, suggesting no power supply - resr presumably decommissioned. Appears to be built over the natural HP. 92m spot ht just to NE is no kind of highpoint. 9th UA completion of the weekend and a welcome break (with the nearby UA HP) on drive home.RHW13/12/2015

Can't match Chris's lyrical description. St. Helens completion.ngthack19/08/2015
Crank Hill gently rises from the fertile Lancashire plain. A tractor pulling a trailer brim full of loose carrots trundled by. In the distance is Liverpool with its prominent Anglian Cathedral whereas the big white warehouse in mid distance is the QVC 24 hour shopping channel service centre at Kirkby which employs 2000 people. A million miles from these quiet fields.Chris Pearson05/08/2015
From Crank up the track. First summers day!Play2End05/06/2015
circular walk with Billing Hill & North Topl, from Mason's Arms, Billingejoseph mitchell15/05/2015
Parked at rough layby at road bend in Crank. Easy stroll up track. Top of the reservoir is highest, and the highest natural point seems to be outside the wall round the back of the reservoir.ijpowell28/03/2015
From small rough layby at bend in minor road at SJ 50614 99672. Made it into a small circular walk by returning through wood to NE where there are some interesting caves.David Gradwell08/03/2015
