O: This is E end of ridge. W end SO 24302 01203 perhaps lower (GPS 2m lower). Fairly open woodland but not intervisible - a hose level would work, < 100m metres needed.

Wet and Windy - all the trees cut down and covered in signs saying keep out, Peggy and I got to the topdavecnash28/06/2023
My 500th P30, so far, this year. Trees felled, thankfully not much brash bashing.Martin R23/07/2022
From the road large swathes of wind felled trees were not a good sign… Approached from road/ track junction to SW ( parking) , followed track along south side of pines then cut up through pathless pines, some wind felled , NW to Indistinct summit. Better terrain than feared! Huge disused open cast mine within?? Not really visible.Denise 23/01/2022
Parked by bend in road to SW. Track into forest, then anticlockwise on forest tracks. Last 100m or so through thin trees from NW or N of summit.PGCE02/08/2021
Parked roughly at SO 230 017, walked through northern edge of woodland following what looked like sheep/people paths, past some sheep and tent carcasses. Great views down into quarry along the way, eventually reached the end of the trees to the north to cut back in and bag the hill, good little adventurepenbet18/07/2019
As others have described previously, parking to the SW then into woods and spiraling anticlockwise initially on a track then a path to within 130m of top then up through treed from the N. Going to have a look at the lake in the canyon is well worth it too. I approached the lake from the West.Father Ted14/05/2019
From Pontypool town centre, west along the cycle path, up through Cwm Ffroed Oer wood, then west across the moor, into the wood, up between the trees to the summit. Many possible high points on uneven ground.Mariana Trench23/03/2019
Walked anti-clockwise around the edge of the woods until a track led in. Left the track and headed straight for the top through not too thick woodland.clivevilla17/12/2018
An extraction application has been filed so this may become less accessible than currently. Mature woodland resembling the Everglades with moss and lichens in abundance. The woodland covers a previously greatly scarred landscape due to open cast mining. Now they want the sandstone.Campbell Singer01/04/2018
Worth visiting the open cast canyon a few mts to the north.Jemma Singer01/04/2018
Quite a tricky one this. Walked almost completely round the hill, before finding a way up through the trees. Completed the circumambulation to return.ngthack10/04/2017
Same route as others, from bend in Blaen-y-cwn Road. Final 200m or so through primeval conifer plantation not too difficult.jonglew08/08/2016

4th tump of day. From bend in road and as others followed forest track around to North and then cut up through trees to small clearing with HP closeby.PeterD18/07/2015
I made this into a far tougher walk than it should have been. If their is a pathway to the summit i sure as well did'nt find it. I got stuck in some arwful forestry obsticles on the way up and down, no view from summit had a good walk around as normal, not an experience i wish to repeat in a hurry.hodder23/05/2015
From Road corner at SW. Anticlockwise up forest track. Could tell that others had made way up from highest point of track through trees to small clearing. Last of 11 tump weekend before driving home in two and a half hoursGordonAdshead08/03/2015
Welsh 400s re-completed. Also Torfaen Tumps completion. From SW, track then steeply up W thru open woodland, a few fallen trees to avoid. E end of summit ridge feels higher, survey would require a hose level :-)RHW31/01/2015
2/7 Approach hill from road to west. walk around edge of forest till you see hill scared by scrambler bikes. The gorge is well worth checking out here too...Fergalh30/11/2014
SO2434801186. From Blaen-y-cwm Road 238009 with Carole, followed track around to North of top then up tree rows. Checked col where track to East meets watery ditch and drop found to be ok, walked around base of hill and drop ok all the way around so should be a full blown Pedwar.Anton10/10/2014
