From Linhope layby, through Linhope farm then straight up Lightning Hill. Followed the fence to Wether Law, Millstone Edge then to Cauldcleuch Head. Back to Millstone Edge then Tudhope Hill, Carlin Tooth, Bye Hill and Dod Hill. Back down to Linhope using the same descent as Smocks & Denim. Just shy of 12 miles, frozen ground made the going a lot easierGary Heath19/01/2024

From Priesthaugh Farm. No Parking signs at end of track up glen but there is a small parking space at cattle grid on road just north of farm. Walked back down road then up good track to Shiel Cottage, crossing the burn just north of the house, picking up an ATV track that follows line of fence at edge of felled woodland most of the way up to top of Skelfhill Fell. From here followed line of fence up to Cauldcleuch Head. Had planned to head out to Great Moor HIll but was short of time so headed east over the 608m top and dropped down to the Cat Sike burn that forms a natural firebreak in the forest covering the northern slopes. A few fallen trees to negotiate on way down and had to cross the burn from one side to the other a few times before pushing through final line of trees to reach forest track. Decided to head for Dun Rig so continued following burn down from forest track which was rough going to the sheepfold at foot of glen and back up to the main track in from PH Farm.Jossker18/10/2023
From Priesthaugh, parked on the grass by the wall just past the track. Track to Priesthaugh Hill, up ATV track to Skefill Fell, then Caudcleuch Head and along the fenceline to GreatMoor Hill, and Maiden Paps Off SW to enter firebreak at big fallen tree then easily down on a path (was marked on old 1:50k not on new maps). Right along track for 0.5km, then take path marked on map in Westerley direction for 0.5km (a few fallen traas to pass by) to hit next track. Turn left the follow track all the way to edge of forest. Follow wall to Garden plantation, then left and over ford to pick track past farm buildings and down to road. Left along road to Priesthaugh. With KeithByTheC and Carol 12.5miles.JulieB08/09/2023

Superb panoramic views all around from up here today. Reasonably easy going this time of year the majority of the way, just quite a fair old plod getting to the top.Alex C03/07/2023

Repeat ascent. Parked on grass verge on south side of road about 80 yards west of the bridge to Braidlie. Ascent of Greatmoor Hill via Tongue Rigg. Ridge to Cauldcleuch Head, then back via Winterlair Hill and the ruin at Braidliehope. Very humid. Ground was bone dry.vuirich17/06/2023

SMC round solo. Visited Hermitage Castle and Chapel beforehand. Grand day, good lighting. Easy to follow descent via painted posts which avoids some of the bog.Nick Canute19/09/2022

Started from the forestry entrance north of Geordies hill and followed the SMC route to Cauldcleuch head, from here I made a change to the descent route to take in five Donald Dewey's Millstone Edge, Wether Law, Tudhope hill, Carlin tooth and Ellson fell. Seven hours for Thirteen miles with 3800ft of ascent, the climb up to Carlin tooth is particularly brutal at this stage in the walk. After Ellson fell there is a track over the 494 point which leads to the road all being a couple of miles from the finish.WAYNE ROWLETT05/05/2022

I took the caravan down to Moffat for a few days and of course the weather was less than good, until today when I'm heading home. I got Cauldcleuch Head (619m, a Graham & Donald) yesterday in the Scottish Borders between Hawick and Langholm. I parked at Linhope on the A7 and started at 12 noon. There was a slight navigational mishap with me ascending Wether Law instead of Millstone Edge, which meant I had to walk an extra 2km around to Millstone Edge. It rained all day and started snowing as I approached Cauldcleuch Head and kept snowing until I got down below 300m, by which point it was dark. I got back to the car thoroughly soaked 5hrs after starting.chillyman803/01/2022

From parking area at NY 43896 97787, along track to end, dropped down to Burnhope burn, along 2nd track to gate and then up hillside following blue topped posts towards summit. Terrible weather so return by same route.MichaelF02/10/2021

1 of 2: Parked at 439978. Down the road to Billhope then a track to a small quarry. Green posts lead up through the quarry and along a track above it. The post leaving the track is hard to spot high up on the right. Then green posts all the way. With karen.ChrisR08/07/2021
From car park at forestry west of Billhope, over Tudhope Hill, Millstone Edge, Langtae Hill, Cauldcleuch Head and down North Mid Hill, following the green posts marking the new path to the Billhope Burn.Alan21/04/2021

From NY 4392 9777, up SW side forest to Tudhope Hill. Followed fenceline to Millstone Edge then continued to follow it round to here. Dropped down over steep rough ground to NY 4461 9978 to pick up a good track back to Billhope, then half mile back up road.jonglew05/09/2020

Started at the forest entrance car park area, over Tudhope Hill, then Millstone Edge and finally Cauldcleuch Head. 8 miles in just over 3 1/2 hours.Alan Caine30/08/2020
From good parking at 438978. Carlin Tooth, Tudhope Hill, Millstone Edge, Wether Law and finally Cauldcleuch Head. Headed don North Mid Hill but rough going in places. Pleasant walk down valley after picking up path at 445999 and down to Billhope. Walk up to where the car was parked. Solo. Just under 11 miles and 6.5 hours overs some rough terrain.bolton21/07/2020
