First of 6 in the northern part of the Howdens, and a splendid sheltered spot for my first ever wild camp just past the summit at Margery Stones. A sunset and a special memory to reflect on hopefully for many years to come.Alfa1M16/08/2023

A sunny afternoon walk from the summit of the Woodhead Pass. Hoar Stones, Outer Edge, Margery Hill and Horse Stones. From Outer Edge, it is a simple path to follow between the two trigs. This is a nice spot, also good views a bit further on from the edge.meltdiceburg13/05/2023

Climbed as part of a circluar hike. Starting from Fairholmes Car Park at Ladybower I climbed Upper Hey (446m), Margery Hill (546m), Howden Edge (High Stones) (550m) and Back Tor (538m). A 16mile loop with 2110ft of ascent.dazedemon31/12/2022

Parked at the car park on the A616 north of Langsett, followed the bridleway SW to the watershed. Dropped down slightly to the Derwent valley and then followed the RoW (a delightful small green track) south until, forking off to Upper Hey, then east on another green trod up the steep escarpment to the summit of High Stones (my penultimate English Dewey). Then north along the summit ridge with a revisit to Margery Hill, before retracing the outward route to the start. A splendid crystal clear winter's day, with frost underfoot and stunning views all round. 18.5km with 570m ascent taking 5h 30m.silverwolf_alan07/12/2022

From Langsett car park along Langsett Bank, over Hingcliff Common, along Mickleden Edge, Cut Gate to Margery Hill. Onto High Stones then down passed Nether Hey to Derwent Reservoir to finish at Fairholmes car park. With Keith using two cars parked at either end of the walk. Great day on the moors taking advantage of the prolonged dry spell. Second time on this route last was when I was 16 now 73.Glenelg01/09/2022

Parked in the car park on the A616 just south of the A628 at SK 201 013. Followed Barnsley Boundary route to Hordron Road, then along it up Hordron Clough and Laund Clough - all easy going. Short pull up to Hoar Stones, then across to the impressive summit tor of Dewey Horse Stone Naze, back to Hoar Stones and then along the nice track on the ridge to the trigs at Outer Edge and Margery Hill. Back down the bridleway all the way to the car park. A splendid warm and sunny day on the Howden Edge. 21km with 500m ascent in about 5h 30m.silveracorn_alan23/03/2022

From end of Derwent Reservoir. Horse Stone Naze, then along high ground to Howden Edge. Dropped down over Upper Hey back to Slippery Stones and track to car. With B, B and R.jenx19/01/2022
From head of the lochs, Howden water. Walked to Slippery Stones bridge and on up the Derwent valley. Quick stop in delightful Stainery Clough before cutting up to magnificent Horse Stone (Naze) top. Onwards to Hoar Stones-Howden Edge county top before long March around dodgy ground to two trigs (Margery Hill and Outer Edge) then High Stones on HE. Dropped steeply off to collect Upper Hey, before pleasant steeps back to the bridge the parked car.nordicstar19/01/2022

Very windy but bright with hazy views of Sheffield and wild moorland. Cycled then walk over boggy terrain from Ladybower Reservoir. Large outcrop near trig appears lower than a heathery peat hag next to trig.Denise 12/11/2020

Logged on 18 mile route. Approached north from Howden Edge. Headed west back to main track over heather and difficult going. Watch ankles!Shutuplegs5425/07/2020
Today we saw a huge bird in flight. A man told us it was a bearded vulture, not seen here for 140 years, which came here from the Alps by mistake. Later we saw a large number of bird-watchers in the area.Bag For Life24/07/2020
