Ravenglass to Eskdale Walk. IOG Easter Trip 2024.dancingqueen10131/03/2024

From Muncaster Castle car park, up the Fell Road track and taking a little path off to the left at the edge of the woods. Would not have known that the trig point was not the highest point, thank God for amateur surveyors. The extra walking was worth it for the splendid views and general sunny weatherRockdoctor06/05/2023

Returned for new top. From Muncaster car park. Back along the main road. At the bend took the good track towards the old top. Passed it up on the left and onto the new top. No paths to the top. Followed a sheep track from the east of the top. Short and unpleasant.destaylor06/04/2022
15/16. 30 years since I last climbed up here with a big gang of outdoor friends to the trig top, now returned 6 years after the 60 cm higher top was discovered 300m away in 2016. Still need to revisit the moved Cornish Hensbarrow Beacon to Downs to re-complete my English Marilyns. No rush. Now just peaky Silver Knott -a bonus tump lying aside the onward march down into Eskdale .Chris Pearson26/03/2022
From Muncaster Castle CP. Repeat ascent of Hooker Crag (previous in 1975) en route to 'new' Marilyn summit. Very blustery, but dry.vuirich01/02/2022

Up from Muncaster Castle car park for my penultimate English Marilyn accompanied by some pedigree hill walkers. Only a feint path up to the summit it seemed. Sheltered in the lee of a rocks before heading back down.Father Ted26/10/2021
From Muncaster Castle car park. Visited the trig and the 'new' summit - to my eye each looked higher when viewed from the other, so that's not much use. I trust the technology!paulhilder19/08/2021
From Forge Bridge via Silver Knott and the trig point to make sure I did this top, 18 years after doing the Trig. As others have commented it looks smaller from the Trig and the Trig looks higher from it. On a clear very warm day I saw no one else on the fells.PeterD22/07/2021

Avoid the pathway from hell that starts at the Bower House Inn! The bridlepath is much nicer! And you don't scramble through a stream!!!PhilipChaston10/06/2021
Ascended from Muncaster Castle carpark with Jerry and friends but only we went up this summit.RowanP18/05/2021
W to E traverse of the fell from the free Muncaster Castle carpark, returning via Muncaster Head farm and High Eskholme. Great views.milimana25/04/2021
Dubious it's any higher than the old summit, but rules are rules so bagged it anyway.summitter15/09/2020

After a snack at Muncaster Castle car park. A gentle ascent with Miranda via the Wainwright summit. We agreed that this looks lower from the trig and that the trig looks higher from here. On to Silver Knott.Wycombe Wanderer01/12/2019
Reclaiming the Marilyn bag only 17 yrs and 20 days after I first climbed it. Met some guys from SOTA at the Trig, which they knew wasn't the summit. That's them grassed up.Minto22/11/2019

From Fisherground campsite, following the rough 'ridge' track via Ross's Camp and down to the lake, back via High Eskholme forestry track to Muncaster Head and then the railway track back to base. A grey day, but it cleared up in time to see the sea in the distance from the top. 15.5km +481mMontmirail22/07/2019

From the lay-by parking outside Muncaster Castle, up Fell Lane and over Hooker Crag, Muncaster Fell (which does indeed look lower than Hooker Crag) and the three tops of Silver Knott. Glorious views of Eskdale.Nick Down106/05/2019

Final English Marilyn. Taking the lead from the recent (Gill party) This time the walk started from Dalegarth Station with scones or cakes before a trip on the R&E railway to The Green, Over silver Knott to the New summit with Elizyanne. Returned by train to Dalegarth followed by extended celebrations in the Boot Inn.GmacT26/07/2018
Superb walk from the station. Beautiful day. Lovely views. Couple of snakes sunning themselves on the path coming down. Celebrated Gmac’s last English Marilyn! Great end to a month of walking and camping.elizyanne26/07/2018
Up on railway to Eskdale then back to Ravenglass over MF and three other tumps. Thanks Gill and others for an enjoyable afternoon.Topographer5723/06/2018

Thanks to all who came along for my final English Marilyn. The walk started well with pasties, scones or cakes in the Ravenglass station cafe, before a trip on the R&E railway to The Green, cake and damson gin at the top, then ice cream at Muncaster Castle to make sure we had enough energy to get back to Ravenglass. Some Tumps also got in the way during the walkGill23/06/2018
From Eskdale Green to Ravenglass via Silver Knott, Muncaster Fell, Hooker Crag and Muncaster Castle Hill - with Gill's E Ma completion party.summitsup23/06/2018
Parked at Muncaster Castle car park, up bridleway heading past a lake then over the old Marilyn summit, touching trig point and rock on the way, short descent then across some bog on a path and then cut up to this summit. Over time I am sure that a more significant path will appear going over this top - there is a faint one already forming.assynt_bob12/04/2018
