Kayak from Kingswear with RHW and the Mclellans. Due to swell, landed at W end. Had a decent scramble up, probably a climb. Hydrographic survey plate found at the summit. Also summited Shag Stone and Shooter Rock after.jonglew21/09/2020
By Kayak from Kingswear with Richard, Rob and Jon in sunny calm conditions, departing on ebb and returning on flood, Sp+2. Landed easily on tidal slabs on NW corner, noting too much swell on S and E sides to land. One 3m awkward vertical scramble from sea, then easy scramble to top, with marine survey mark. Also summited Shooter rock. No birds present.Denise 21/09/2020
Bonus hydrographic trig plate at summit just below highest outcrop. Landed NW corner, tricky scramble at low spring tide, would be harder (about V Diff?) at other tide states. Ideally land SW corner but would need v calm conditions, was fairly calm for us, lovely sunny afternoon. Also summitted Shag Stone c7m and the excellent Shooters Rock c17mRHW21/09/2020
A fine afternoon excursion by kayak with Jon, Rob and Denise in perfect conditions, if anything too hot! Depart from inlet next to Darthaven Marina car park (£8/day) at 12:50 and aided by the tide reach the Mew Stone 13:45. Easy landing on barnacle covered rocks on the W side, 3m climb YDS3 with good holds reaches easier ground and scramble/walk to the summit where there's a Naval Hydrographic survey mark - HMS Herald 1981. Hard igneous rock - Mico-gabbro with plenty of Guano. The only bird present today is a Wheatear. At low tide Shooter Rock (P18 by GPS) and Intermediate island (P7 by GPS) are connected by jagged rocks and kelp forming a calm lagoon. Intermediate Island little more than a walk, the tailing NE ridge of Shooter Rock easier than it appears. A leisurely paddle back again aided by the now flood tide. Our visit is 2 days after Springs, BST times were :- 09:44(5.0m), 15:28(0.4m), 21:59(5.0m) which worked well.RichardM21/09/2020
Solo kayak from Kingswear. Messy landing on rocks on SE side in a couple of feet of swell then easy scramble up the spine of the island on good rock.AndyS04/09/2020
